Wonder how Johor can treat its own water sufficient for its need - & don't needed treated water from Singapore - :-
(1) Water sources frequently got contaminated - by industry pollution.
(2) Long period of drought, no rainfall.
(3) Water sources frequently got contaminated - by natural cause eg sea water pollution.

So when a leader fail to honour signed agreement - many mishaps will follow.
Because divine don't favor dishonorable person.

We will continue to do good to our neighbour, If need to, Singapore will still help them with treated water.

KS Lim True. We wish Johoreans no harm. We should be there if they really need us. We and our leaders do not play political games. We have nothing against Malaysians especially Johoreans.

KS Lim , trust we've done enough good deeds for them (remember all those "goodwill gestures") but not appreciated by this current regime under the vintage Old M.
In contrast, this ungrateful Old M and his team are taking full advantage of our kindness and humanity to keep threatening us with those unreasonable and unfounded issues including "3 sens water price" that make "no sense at all" just to disrupt our survival.
Not much we can do now to help them as our own supply of raw water from Johor is also disrupted from this ammonia pollution.
Let's see what the Old M and his Johor MB can do otherwise it's high time for Johor to secede from the federal govt in Putrajaya and seek for independence.

Pher Kim Huat Believe it or not, I think this is the surviving principle of Singapore in helping people even though our neighbour may not know what they are doing. Singapore will be blessed if we are able to help even though it looks like we have overly extended our grace.

KS Lim , yes, S'pore had done many gracious deeds not only to M'sia but also to all our neighbours including mobilisation of our military men & equipments to help those past tsunami diasters in Thailand & Indonesia.
In this current instance in Johor, it's due to their own ammonia pollution which is beyoond us and also affect our own raw water supply that's why nothing much we can do now.
Trust S'pore is always among the first few country to offer and render help to our nieghbours when serious disaster like earthquake, etc strike.

用李 True. It has been running below full capacity due to financial woes. Thankfully PUB has publicly announced recently that it has the necessary manpower and expertise to take over.

Zul Maidin as the water contamination of this river affecting both Johore and Singapore people, a more professional report is necessary. Why the bursted reservoir was built next to this river? And any approval from government institution?
Do they release ammonia into river on regularly?

"The stoppage of treatment operations at JRWW disrupted its water supply to Singapore and some parts of Johor. Water supply in Singapore is not affected as PUB has stepped up production at the desalination plants and local waterworks to meet demand...."

Now do you see? We may have to tightened our consumption and the cost may be exorbitant, but when push comes to shove, we can produce our own water.

Mahdey is therefore mistaken if he continues to use water as an extortion on SG. So, please talk nicely, neighbourly and constructively if he wants our cooperation on the water trade negotiations.

There is no talk needed.
Treaty stay.
If raw water was polluted then good luck to both side.

something fishy going on....maybe it's on purpose

Well said. Extortion will fail in this case. Think the impact is greater on pitiful Johoreans as this issue has led to closure of a few water treatment plants in Johor and the water supply to a village is affected

They don't know how to collect their water. Don't know how to protect their water sources. Now they are polluting their water sources.

Isn't ammonia in pee? And since Singapore can turn pee (which contains much more) into pure water, surely this is no problem.

You are right, but we have better option, we use water from desalination.

Now we S'poreans can realise how important and crucial to have those long-term planning decades ago to build Deep Tunnel Sewage System (DTSS) to ensure that we have self-suffcient water for our survival and even go beyond to help Johoreans until this ammonia pollution happened in their own river which is beyond our control (btw, what kind of help is their federal govt in Putrajaya or its Johor CM going to provide for Johor ?).
It's also timely to announce our phase 2 DTSS project yesterday for people to understand this well engineered and coordinated projects are indeed essential and necessary for us to spend billions as it impact our survival unless we can live without drinkable water (don't just KPKB unnecessarily here).
Sincere appreciation to all the relevant authority and parties who continue to provide the expertise to execute and complete these projects successfully. Well done !

It is a good time that both country work together to help one another. The 2 counrties leaders should stop behaving like a kids and quarrel over same matters over and over again. At this time, I am sure people are suffering and the leaders should focus more on resolving issues and not trying to score political points.

Differences aside, looks like Johore and Singapore is intergrally sealed through water. Each has to depend on each other for survival in times of shortage and need.

Is another reminder to Singapore again and it shouldn't come as a surprise. Singapore leaders should target self reliant on water ASAP and not 2060. Next time Singapore may not just hit by D M or other politicians, climate change may just strike us like a thief where our dear Linggui may just dry out, billion investment on the dam infrastruture may just go into halt. By now (if our leaders are far sighted enough), Singapore should'nt be relying much on Linggui water.

Roderick Tan If need to, Singapore can easily ram up the desalination plants just like what Israel did to make up the balance of water need. If we can spend multi billions on defense, to concurrent add up a few more desalination plants is not a serious problem.
