If Malaysia want to stop buying treated water from Singapore:-

(1) We need to check - will it infringe the Water Agreement signed in 1962 and will it infringe the Separation Agreement 1965.

If no, I think we should be very happy about it.
Because we can stop subsidisying them treated water :- We can save RM$1.90 sen (per 1000 gallons) of subsidy to Malaysia.

(2) We must stand firm on our position that we continue to pay them 3 sen of raw water - as per the Water Agreement 1962.

(3) We must also stand firm on the Water Agreement 1962 that Johor will continue to supply us raw water up to 2061 and honor all the terms and conditions stated in the Water Agreement that are accrued to us.

Mutual government guarantees of water agreements

"The Government of Malaysia shall guarantee that the Government of the State of Johore will on and after Singapore Day also abide by the terms and conditions of the said two Water Agreements." ===== which form the part of Separate Agreement 1965.

---
If Mahathir breach the above clause --- we can bring them to International Court.

1 way track thinking. Really think out of the box. Out source water treatment to Singapore with 50 years agreement to provide quality water instead. Everyone knows Singapore will abide by black and white agreement type. No need to be afraid as long got black and white. Malaysia can focus on other strengths, why waste good money if others can do better with trusted quality.

Well that's Malaysia. Focusing on strengths and specialization are not what they are known for.

Their leaders are adventurous. If you recall, one of their great leaders tried to manufacture cars

SG will be happier if Johor stop buying treated water from her. But whose decision is that to do so? Putrajaya, Mahathir, Johor state govt or the Johor Royal family? Consider it very carefully. Pennywise, ringgits foolish!

And if they do stop buying treated water and I think that decision will be made illegally by Putrajaya, I really think more grist will be added to the mill in the push for Johor's independence from the Federation.

The current arrangement is a win win for Johor and Singapore and that is perhaps what the Mamak who hates both the Johor monarchy and Singapore does not want to see.

I think everyone misunderstood rge Minister Xavier Jayakumar lah.

What the Minister is trying to stress is that he doesn't want Johor to continue getting the privilege of buying water at a cheap discounted price of 50 sens for 2,000 gallons of treated water without having to spend a billion dollars in the treatment system.

What he wants is for Johor to be independent by spending a billion dollars for the water treatment infrastructure and thereafter spending RM2.70 to treat every 1,000 gallons of water so that the Johor govt cannot profit from retailing the water too much lah.

He's a very smart minister leh. So, Malaysia Boleh.

Macam ini sudah terbalik.

Why must submit the report to mahdey? Mahdey doesnt buy the water. Johore does. So the report should go to Johore Sultan. Then Johore Sultan tell Mahdey what to do based on the report. Not mahdey telling the Johore Sultan what to with his state's water.

Btw, I sincerely hope Johore does treat its own water. Sincerely, good luck and all the best.

Come to think of it, how objective and transparent is this report since it is coming from putrajaya, not Johore?

What if Johore is actually not ready to treat its own water but Mahdey's report falsely conclude otherwise just to serve his agenda of pressuring SG?

If so, Johoreans will be the ones paying the price of Mahdey's folly, not SG.

As a Singaporean, I am glad of this development. Singapore and Malaysia must cut off as much links as possible and develop alternatives sources for goods and services currently being traded.

Only than can there be a normalisation of relationship based on equality and respect. Personally I wish for a future where no Singaporean has to hear another word coming out from Malaysian politicians again.

The simple fact that with is present arrangement, Johor is making about RM10 million every year.

If and when Johor takes over, they will be making about RM3 million every year as the treated water is not discounted anymore and nobody is buying their raw water which they got for free from the sky.

So you think Johor wants this arrangement to remain or not?

It's the old senile man who is greedy. That's why this issue came out.

Dr M may purpose is not abt the puny money n water but to :

1) divert ph problems to sg. We becum the blame for their problems n ppl forgot their problems.
2) make jb ppl hate sg. So sultan of johor cant declare independent n work with sg like brunei
3)forces sg to give in some projects which benefits sg but detrimental to msia like pasir seletar airport n their new ship to ship port

Actually, sg has always been their punching bag n their biz always being targetting sg biz. What we need to do is help johor independent n then see malaysia disintegrate becoz johor is their top 2 revenue for tax n part of this revenue is from SG ppl. Johor deserve to be like brunei n ppl be rich. Same for sarawak n sabah. They shld get rid of parasite from north n cental west malaysia. The 3 dun depend on these leeches parasites.
