Airlines basically are installed to be guided by ILS - based on the report indicated and not by GPS guided approach.

Look like airlines need to install GPS guided approach as additional cost in each planes --- which will be more costly to airlines.

Seletar Airport also need to install the GPS guided approach also a one time cost to us.

As there is limitation to expansion in Changi Airport - reported to have 3 runways ---- Singapore need a new airport to cater for more and more passenger growth.

Moving slower turboprop jets for budget airlines to Seletar Airport make sense - as Changi Airport can be catered for faster and bigger engine planes.

Now the question is, some airlines may not want to invest in GPS guided approach - due to additional cost.

This could be airlines from Indonesia Jarkata and Batam - coming from the southern side.

Then the question is - can ILS and GPS guided approach coexist?

If yes - then GPS guided approach can be use for Malaysia and Thailand bound flight coming from the northern KL airspace and ILS can be used for southern bound Indonesia airspace.

after sinking all that money into the ILS system you now enunciate that the GPS-based approach method is better just because you surrendered at the air-space negotiation with MYS..... an exceptional display of SG-Pride

wasting ILS system is only temporary, when dr m dies, everything revert back.

And many years later M'sia will make a statement to say the idea was purely theirs.

Rather than come up with this propaganda story, can they explain how they will address aircraft/passenger safety issues that will be created from the switch to a GPS system.

The article already states that since ILS procedures have been withdrawn and until the new system is installed, pilots will have to rely on their own eyesight and take longer time and distance to land when approaching the airport.

Maybe this would not be a problem in the daytime, but at night? During heavy storms or haze conditions?

The reason why MY didnt want us to use ILS at Seletar Airport is because that would have restricted the building of medium-, and high-rise buildings at Pasir Gudang.

Now they can.

But again, safety issues will be of concern here, because these buildings will be zoned very near at the northern approaches of the airport.

With only the narrow Straits of Johore, separating Pasir Gudang and Seletar, pilots have only a couple of minutes to land at the airport, even with this touted GPS system. Imagine doing that at night, or haze conditions or bad weather.

Just hope the Msians will use their cow sense in developing Pasir Gudang.

Why is it that your country problem becomes everyone's problem?

Too difficult ....close seletar... Build more condos. After all 3/4 of singapore economy is selling condos to foreigners

Make sure you object to any link to Malaysia near Pungol, or any link to the east. Helping to bring economic activities and prosperity to that side of Johor from Singapore shall come back and bite us, and if they can, they would want to finish us off as Mahathir's wish in his early parliamentary speeches. They have fired the first shot, and it shall be stupid not to be warned. SGP should focus economic activities away from Johor and Malaysia, and focus on other more deserving ASEAN countries. Proximity supposed to be advantageous for all, but with Malaysia, history has kept proving they shall they remain toxic and untouchable for foreseeable future.

Jasveer Jurrah You could be right that Seletar airport may have to be closed down if Pasir Gudang development proved too high risk for air traffic there.

So you see, you got it backwards because once again, it proves that it is usually their country's problems that become our problems.

Sharil Bin Saharudin .... In the approach to the ils.... The fact that it was planned in such a manner means that your country has

1. Believe that it belongs
2. Sufficient control
3. Just plain arrogance

Either way the intent is clear

then why wasn't the GPS approach the choice in the first place? really ... this is so unlike our SIngapore style of doing things ... where everything is planned, spot-on and no-nonsense...
