A good countermeasure against up North - who is bent on meddling with the Water Agreement.
Don't be surprise that after they say they are not buying treated water from us - they want to increase our raw water price.

We shall stand firm in our position - not to pay more than 3 sen of raw water.

If we can be totally independent on producing our Water needs - it may even be possible to cut the water dispute once and for all --- ensuring the Separation Agreement 1965 is fully intact - and Singapore remain a Sovereign Independent Nation as Republic of Singapore.

This DTSS has the capacity to produce 400 mgd of Newater per day - can produce 55% of our needs (means can produce 220 mgd of Newater per day - if both Phase 1 and Phase 2 is completed by 2025).

Our 5 Desalination plants (2 new plants will be ready 2020) - will produce 190 mgd of Desalinated Water per day.

In total, 410 mgd a day by DTSS, Newater and Desalination Plants by 2025.

20 mgd a day can be tapped from our 17 reservoirs (more than enough).

When Phase 3 of DTSS is completed - we can produce a total of 590 mgd a day by DTSS NEWater and Desalination Water --- with 17 reservoirs as reserve ----- more than our water needs of 430 mgd a day.

This demonstrate that our Government Vision and Planning is superb - planning for all eventualities.

Singapore and Singaporeans are extremely lucky to have a capable Government - able to forsee all threats many years down the road, plan to turn the threat into Opportunities --- and make Singapore a strong and prosperous Nation.

Great to know our progress so far over the years or decade in this kind of deep tunnelling projects that require good engineering practice and skilled workforce to execute and overcome all the challenges to complete the projects.
Kudos to PUB and all the relevant contractors and the important part is that we're able to continue learning from past phases / experiences to do better in the next phase.
Continue your good work, upkeep those lesson learnt and keep it up !

Water is a critical survival commodity. Our government's long-term plans must be lauded. We must never take water sufficiency for granted. We must unite behind our government on this mammoth, but very necessary, enterprise to keep our nation afloat, for generations to come.

By the time sgp completes the whole project, Malaysia is still in its planning stage to be self sufficient on treated water. Hope the old freak of boleh land can witness the success of Sgp in this aspect.

We have to collect our used water and recycle them to become self sustainable before 2061. Recycling used water is also a more reliable way then to depend totally on rain as can be seen all over the world and our neighbour up north. Without our farsightedness in constructing the Linggiu dam, we would not have been able to collect our daily 250M gallons of raw water even we are entitled to in the water agreement.

Without Singapore drawing 250M gallons of water from Linggiu everyday comes 2061, Kota Tinggi, Pasir Gudang, and the surrounding areas may suffer massive flooding during rainy season if their studies have not been completed and implemented by then. Luckily the PM, minister and CM will probably not be around to witness the flooding.

Climate change and less rain also no problem now. We will all drink long kang jui and jio and our genes will mutate. Singaporeans become another superbreed! 👍👍👍

These giant boring machines are 50M or longer. It is like a factory itself and operated by just a few persons. The Dutch are so good at such machines. Well done Singapore.

For all these kind of giant infrastructure works that constitite to our survival, without necessary long-term well planning under proper management and sheer hard works decades ago, we'll not be able to enjoy what we had now hence let's give credit when it's due.
To those naysayers here who always like to talk about billions of taxpayers' money spent as if they are paying the highest taxes in S'pore, let's don't deceive ourselves but to admit that this is money well spent for our survival. We've enough "external threats from the north and it'll be disastrous to have own internal threats unnecessarily to see our "downfall" ?
One of our main worry should be how to pass on to our "more pampered" younger generation for them to upkeep or maintain all these great infrastructures to continue our survival for years or decades ahead ?

Agree. We should spare no expense at being self-sufficient in water which is a critical resource

Like it or not, foe or friends alike, we must close ranks and support the government effort in ensuring we have enough of water. Newwater is truly laudable because it ensures water is never wasted but recycled. You use 50 litres, you get back more or less the same. Keep it up.
