If hyflux not doing well - government take taxpayers money bail out.
If nol not doing well - government take taxpayers money bail out.
If stat not doing well - government take taxpayers money bail out.
If someone lose money big in casino like $41.4 million - government take taxpayers money bail out.
If SMEs lose money going bankrupt - government take taxpayers money bail out.

This is to be "compassionate" to prevent people from suicide

Soon in no time, the whole Country bankrupt - and everyone can go suicide already.

Management of Enterprises need to be responsible to ensure they do their due diligence - and ensure that they are prudent in their running of the business.
Investors need to invest wisely.

Don't bank on relying Government to bail out non-profitable business - else the whole Economy will collapse, Government will collapse and the whole Country will collapse.

Government, Businesses, Management, Investors, Individuals --- are expected to exercise financial prudence, investment prudence to ensure what they have invested in --- will be profitable and attract good income.

At the same time, they will have to watch out and calculate the risk --- not dump everything into "1 basket" --- but must diversify their risks.

Don't expect their wrong investment to be bail out.

Everyone must be responsible for their own financial investment.

If any political parties campaign on the election - focus on "bailing out" failing business due to mismanagement ---- then Singaporean voters will be wise to vote these political parties out ----- because in no time - Singapore reserves will be all wastefully spend and Singapore will be bankrupt in no time.

Ricky Lim, well said.
Many elderly commoners including myself had lost some CPF or Saving money due to mismanagement of our finance via investment (hoping to build retirement nest) but not savvy enough to know certain volatility and risk factors. However, we take it at good stride to reflect ourselves and move on instead of simply blame others (except ourselves) unreasonably and unnecessarily as if others owe us a living even for our own risks that we have taken ?
As one netizen ever said here : "when you win money you keep queit, when you lose money you KPKB".

Pher Kim Huat - Every individual, business, management, Goverment will have to be responsible for its own financial management and be prudent in investing their own monies.

We cannot depend on others to bail us out - when we are not careful with what we are investing in.
Else many people will invest frivolously - earn big - put into own pocket - lose big = expect others to help us. If this happen, Country coffer will bankrupt in no time.

NOL was racking in good profit, but sold its most profitable US subsidiary - Golden Eagle Shipping to US at fire sale price for unknown reason. So did Natsteel sales to India, SingPost to illegal operating Oz Speedpost, etc. during 911 hoax.

Still its highly profitable before that Chief DF white foot took over to screw up within a year, then sold off hastily before go over Spore Press Holding to continue.

LKY is smarter, as he said, GohCT was proven with golden hand to reverse NOL lost to profit within a year, so he make a good choice (not because he is good). MahBT is another golden finger, whatever he touch incredible tax roll in like COE. If you want to ruin anything, look no further than Kawpeh, simply unrivalled. We should deliver him to DM to bring his downfall.

Good old man. Hyflux is a gov backed darling with spoon fed contracts to groom as global water solution leader. So it does has great potential.

But every investment carry risk. Even blue chips like SQ & local banks (forget about US scam banks), all it takes is a wrong decision by a foreign sham CEO to destroy. Top quality bank DBS need POSB to save it after letting a yank to ravage it.

So follow the jews Rothschild, invest broadly in crisis(made by them via currency & stock sell down every 10yrs), and sold when everyone is cheering the prosperity growth( after 6~8yrs fatten enough for another financial raid). Its a ((((bankers)))) controlled cycle to plunder the world more cost effectively than using past colonial wars.

This sad ending to a potential rescue throws up a lot of questions to be asked:

1. how competent r the board, the paid advisors (lawyers, accountants, mgt?) when they can't even get the pertinent facts right?;

2. when did the mgt n board of Hyflux know abt these "threats" to key assets n projects n did they deliberately concealed them fr SMI?;

3. How did the marketers n financial advisors, auditors, accountants n lawyers manage to get the Sgd500m+400m deal through just a mere 2-3yrs ago? did things really changed that much to put Hyflux under or someone hv misled the investing publics?

4. will the alleged 50k retail investors be compensated? The answer has to b: "NO!" as they r ranked the lowest in the case of liquidation. It is painful n hopefully their family members can b the 1st line of supports. If not, they can apply for social welfare assistance if they r really bankrupted fr this 1 investment. There cannot b an outright bail-out for a private investment matter.

Maybe they can sue the board n the mgt for "wilful omission of disclosure that created a false image that the Company is doing well" ground, if legally available.

I m a shareholder of Hyflux n i won't b committing suicide as life is too precious to give up.

When you run a private business like Hyflux in Singapore, u r competing with government linked companies like Sembcorp, Keppel Corp. If u run a GP clinic, u r competing with government polyclinic, government link NTUC clinics. If u run a child-care centre, provision shop or an undertaker business, u r competing with NTUC. If u run a Hawker stall, u r competing the NTUC foodfare and community hawker stalls. It would be exremely challenging to beat them as they have massive cash flow and resources.

I don't see why private companies need to compete against government linked ones. In that light, private companies should "exploit" all available resources that Spring or Enterprise Singapore can provide. The key idea is to work together to thrive.

Hyflux management should have better control and command of the company's resources, vision etc etc. Any management that lacked of these will ultimately fail.

Lawrence Ong that is right! Just tell the youg people to study hard, get a scholarship from the army and become the general. The army general could easily secure the top jobs in the governement companies even running losses like NOL also not an issue as just need to dispose it off.

I am actually quite pro-opposition because of the incredibly out of touch scholar ministers with zero empathy about the struggling low and middle income family and zero private sector experience..

But to link Hyflux investors or suicides to PAP or govenment is far stretched.. wished the true oppies don't do this because it only turns away voter..

Hyflux was once treated like the "darling" of Singapore by the government and business circles and now it is like an unwanted child looking for someone to take away its misery. The accolades thrown at the company and its founder by the government and business associations during its early years must have gone to her head (founder) where the mentality of "won't fail or do wrong" creeps in. Sadly it is all those 50,000 odd investors that have to bear the brunt of its fallout where all others shy away.

Aussieb properties are projectted to drop from 30% to 70%. Aussie dollar already down some 40% vs SGD over the past few years. I cannot see Spore being immune to economic forces. Hyflux is a tragedy for investors but the bigger picture is very scary too.
