Francis Ong u know i know, in sg, there is a huge difference between President and PM ok. President is more of a ceremonial role and is best to be a popular people's president, but PM is more of a country's PM. Sg PM must ensure that sg survives even a big group of people may not be happy with his policies, in short sg PM doesn't have to be popular like president.

The greatest responsibility of real leaders is to find next capable replacement, otherwise they had failed. Only LKY & Deng XP had such same foresight, no wonder they are good friend. I thought LKY will want his ash scattered in Sg river like Deng, but he too attached to wife.
Look around the world see what chaos is going on. If Putin died suddenly, Russia will be in a mess quickly divided up by West to plunder again like 1990's.

Is FM Heng the right man ...(based on merit) ?
I was hoping for him taking the lead...in dealing with Dr. M , our difficult neighbour..to show us his ability in handling tough issues (like how LKY dealt with the Tungku and the anti-Singapore politicians from hostile Malaysia.)
FM Heng has yet to come up with a strategy ...on how to deal with the fallout from the China-US trade war which could be absolutely calamitous for us. The trade war will NOT end ..in fact it is likely to metastasize into a cold war.
AI is coming...to replace us human in many jobs...in the name of productivity. Many Singaporeans will be made redundant by robos....their jobs taken over by robots.
What are FM Heng's plan ...why are we still importing hordes of workers from India ..giving them PR and citizenship.
It appear that FM Heng and his team are taking things easy... NOT paying attention to these existential issues.

True. SG leadership will face the challenging tasks to deal with US/China relationship. US offers protection and military hardware while China is the future growth market. US is pressing SG to choose side. It's a tricky situation

GCT and LHL were not DPMs? In fact, the only non-DPM who became PM was LKY and only because there was no DPM position for him prior.

I don't understand. When want to promote someone, shouldn't there be a reason why that someone is chosen ? Like he has done well for this or that etc? How come promotion don't need reason also can? Like that can promote anyone they like as long as that person can make the boss happen ?
