Other than his ability in balancing the interests of the palace and his party, the candidate should also possess a good understanding of diplomacy and international affairs, he added.
“The dynamics of bilateral relations with Singapore, for example, will directly affect the chief minister,” he said.
Dr Azmil agreed that dealing with Singapore is important.
“The former chief minister did badly on this matter and it is something that the new chief minister must improve on, especially when so many Johoreans are working in Singapore,” he said.

Yes, good assessment and comments by the various lawmaker in Malaysia.

Singapore value the bilateral relationship with Malaysia especially Johor - being a close neighbor.

Singapore prefer to have a good neighbor - that go for Win-Win outcome and Mutual Benefits --- rather than unnecessary bickering, conflict and confrontation.

A Johor Chief Minister that can perform such role - is most welcome by Singapore.

The MP for Ayer Hitam - a constituency in Johor - added that the new chief minister must be a competent and capable person with integrity.

(1) What has Osman Saipan done to promote bilateral relationship between Johor and Singapore?
None - except to instigate tension :-
- illegal intrusion into Singapore Territorial Water
- talk about revising water price
- talk about building crooked bridge
- derail talk on investment into Iskandar Development

(2) Cause tension between Johor Royalty and Federal Government

(3) Cause incoherent development perspective between Johor state government and Federal government.

(4) Lie about fake degree

Ricky Lim, you're right, at least all these doctorate (Dr) analysts and lawmakers talk sense and logic unlike those lawmakers from Bersatu who are just "echo sounders".

Let us see whether we have a better luck this round.

Anyway, the Royalty will be a credible check on the next candidate.

I think we can be quite assured the next one will be a better one - else he/she will go the same fate as the previous one.

We should spend more time building ties with our neighbor up north - rather than wasting time spend on unnecessary bickering, confrontation and arguing on issues that are non-productive and does not help to promote mutual wealth and peace.

Muhyiddin Yassin told reporters that even before the last general election, it was already decided and agreed upon between parties in the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition that the Johor chief minister must come from Bersatu.
Mahathir already then had it all planned on what he wanted to do to Singapore should they win the GE.

The Johor palace has been more outspoken after becoming instant billionaires from the sale of previous Customs and Immigration land on either side of the causeway to a China developer (for the Princess Cove development) for Rm 4.5 billions in 2013. Followed by land and sea plots for Forest City near Tuas for 23% of the Rm 600 billion project. Possibly by converting them to sultanate land beforehand.

PH does not control two third of parliament hence there is no fear on the part of the sultanate.
The sultanate can start the offensive by being benevolent to the people of Johore and get them to support the royal family. I believe this is already on going.
The sultan need not quarrel with the infamous old man who sooner or later is going off. The constitution as stated, the appointment of CM must be approved by the sultan. The person who approve is always more important that the one that is proposing. When your approval is needed, it simply means you are the boss.

Johore with a very close friendly ties and proximity with Singapore, it is not surprising that the state is the richest in Malaysia. That is also the main reason for Dr.M wanting to have a full control over the running of Johore's state affairs. It is not an impossible dream that one day Johore may decides to break away from the federation and to be independent. This old man may not live to see that if it would to happen but he is certainly trying his best to lay a foundation to a prevent such scenario.
