[22/4/2026 10:00 am] REACH Singapore: 📢 Topic 📢

Speaking to reporters on April 21 at the close of his trip in Hangzhou, China, following the 5th Singapore-China Social Governance Forum on Monday, Coordinating Minister for Social Policies Ong Ye Kung said social media has a profound impact on how children are growing up and Singapore must move to address the harms it is causing, with options that are not limited to a ban. Instead of an outright ban, Singapore can look at how concerns about such features can be addressed, he said.

💬 What are your views on Singapore’s approach to regulating social media use among adolescents to mitigate potential harms? Do you think more needs to be done?

📌 Harms of social media on adolescents

Mr Ong, who is also the health minister, said social media changes human relationships "quite profoundly". "They can talk to the whole world, but not their neighbours. So all these actually affect people-to-people relationships.

Mr Ong said the aspects of social media that pose harm to adolescents are features such as algorithmic feeds, videos that play automatically, and direct messaging by adults to young users.

This was an observation by an expert panel formed by Singapore’s Health Ministry to study the issue, and which is now finalising its report, added Mr Ong, who is also Coordinating Minister for Social Policies.

Some critics say that such feeds and video playback could encourage addictive behaviour and excessive screen time, while direct messaging potentially exposes adolescents to cyber-bullying, predators, or inappropriate content from strangers.

📌 Need for a calibrated approach

Social media has also had an impact on children. Mr Ong noted that various countries have implemented or discussed implementing social media bans for teens.

Some countries have banned, or are considering banning, adolescents from using social media.

Such a move gained traction after Australia, in December 2025, became the first to bar children under 16 from accessing social media. But this has also drawn criticism that young people will simply go to other websites or find workarounds.

Mr Ong said he believed there is a net benefit to such a move, but added that the issue was complex and bans are “blunt tools”. He added that adolescents “do use social media to maintain friendship, keep in touch with friends, and use it for education. So it’s not all bad, it is actually a lot of good.”

He stressed that Singapore "can also take an approach that, instead of banning, let's look at how these features and our concern about these features can be addressed.”

The Ministry of Digital Development and Information will be engaging with tech platforms on these concerns. “Our options are open, but we will have to do something about this problem,” Mr Ong said.

[22/4/2026 10:36 am] 365: There is one way, but it might still require some research on the possibility and feasibility of implementation.

Make videos that are deemed not suitable for adolescents invisible. On the surface, nothing changes when they're scrolling, but on the back end, they are being protected. This is by no means foolproof, and to be used in conjunction with other solutions.

The invisibility of the censorship makes them less likely to rebel, theoretically there should be fewer who will still resort to VPN rather than just accepting what has been given to them. Don't even show messages like "this content is not suitable for you", just return no results or the spinning circle that usually indicates still loading.

Even if the pattern becomes apparent and public knowledge, the brain immediately associates what it experiences to be the truth instead. People are more likely to accept that something just never exist rather than something existing but denied from them.

For user verification, it will be risk based instead of absolute, as we know there has been great public pushback against id or photo verification in other parts of the world. Instead, an Ai risk-based assessment on the content that the user is interested in, how long they engage with particular content, will be used to determine their age.

[22/4/2026 10:41 am] 365: As content curation has been widely accepted, even if undesirable, this can be seen as another invisible layer of content curation

[22/4/2026 10:43 am] 365: The challenge now is how to implement from isp side, as there's too many social media platforms to go after and get them to cooperate.

[22/4/2026 10:58 am] Adam: I think the physical streets are unsafe. Sometimes very risky. Got cars. Got predators. I see adult toys and contraceptives in watsons, ntuc.

Therefore we need to ban kids from some stores. Not allowed to go in medical section of ntuc or they might overdose on gummie meds.

Kids cannot go to some places like beaches or parks unless its designated for children. There might be predators. By default websites dont verify if minors are accompanied by adults so they cant go if accompanied either.

We need our police nsf to patrol streets to make sure everyone has their nric. If they dont, they might be a minor.

Cyberspace can cause harms online.

But Physical space can cause Physical harm. Think of the Children! If we do all this online, why isnt physical as regulated?

Thank you.

Megan 😊

[22/4/2026 11:26 am] 365: We have many physical restrictions and implementation already, most of the burden on care is put on the sellers for controlled item. Is it foolproof? Also no. However we have more reach and control within our physical spaces compared to digital.

It's why we can capture more thieves and robbers and show deterrence as compared to online scams, since digital space is relatively recent compared to physical space.

[22/4/2026 11:45 am] Khai Mun L.: What do you mean by kids cannot go to places not specifically designated as kid friendly? Who is going to define and enforce this?

E.g. my grandma house not kid friendly because got vases, swimming pool because got other adults.

And what about kids bullying other kids? Are we going to bubble wrap children in their own world?

[22/4/2026 11:48 am] Khai Mun L.: There are always new slangs and ways bypass social media and internet regardless if audience is young or old.

China's firewall is a good example. Porn, fake news, anti-government messages still appear

[22/4/2026 11:50 am] Khai Mun L.: And what's stopping adults from impersonating as adolescent, then targeting them?

Or we need to prove that kids are kids, and adults as adults? Very difficult to implement perfect solution

[22/4/2026 11:56 am] 365: There's no single solution to cover everything. It is all risk based on the environmental and cultural context. Hardly a definitive right or wrong, just different assessments on the cost benefit analysis.

[22/4/2026 11:58 am] 365: I personally think the ideal solution should be parents participating more themselves in guiding their children through the technology age. But the cultural context now is many parents are not doing this, common reasons cited being too fatigued from work and that it's not sustainable for them.

Then we move to what might be the next best solution, to implement censoring from the top, to punish parents for opting out, restricting businesses to allow breather room for parents, or to let it be as is and accept the outcome?

[22/4/2026 11:59 am] 365: We don't function on ideals, only real context available

[22/4/2026 12:04 pm] Khai Mun L.: Also what falls under 'social media'? The previous ISA caught adolescent was influenced by Roblox. Are online games considered?

What about forums like hardwarezone etc.

[22/4/2026 12:05 pm] Khai Mun L.: More persistent education and good role models/influence are a better solution than trying to whack-a-mole all the various web portals

[22/4/2026 12:10 pm] 365: Persistent education itself faces a different set of challenges. Used to be highly effective in the past, as there is a lack of alternative narrative and media outlet.

Now the effectiveness diminishes as it gets drowned out. It's easy to just say 'create better education' without having to go to specifics.

Incumbent has been losing political capital for a while, think that interferes with any hard measures they may want to try out as well, but I believe it may take exactly something radical to resolve the issue.

[22/4/2026 12:17 pm] Adam: We also then need to ban chatgpt. Ai spew a lot of things not for kids

[22/4/2026 12:18 pm] Adam: Then ban using google. They use ai and summary inaccurate and can even be harmful. Non kid sites are indexed there anyway

[22/4/2026 12:19 pm] Khai Mun L.: Banning internet for kids below a certain age? Or limit them to certain hours?

But they could always use someone else phone. E.g. parents often give free-usage of their phone to their children

[22/4/2026 12:20 pm] Khai Mun L.: Critical thinking skills. This should also apply for adults to learn with all the alternative websites

[22/4/2026 12:20 pm] Adam: If online so harmful need to ban kid. What happens if the parents let the kid use

[22/4/2026 12:21 pm] Adam: If parent let kid smoke cigs, is it marlboro fault?

[22/4/2026 12:21 pm] 365: It's a catch 22. Those without existing critical thinking skills, with the exposure to more outside media, hard to bring them back as they lack the exact same thinking skills to consume the information.

[22/4/2026 12:22 pm] 365: I believe sellers are held accountable for selling to minors, and any adults found to be supplying tabacco to minors are also held accountable. Need to double check on the law, but I believe this is already the case.

[22/4/2026 12:23 pm] 365: Is just that the logistics of something physical differs a lot from something digital

[22/4/2026 12:23 pm] Adam: They dont sell to minors. Like how websites can block if they find theres children. What if kids sneak through parents device

[22/4/2026 12:24 pm] Adam: If parents leave device unattended and kids harm themselves, are we gonna make them liable for child endangerment

[22/4/2026 12:24 pm] 365: This is why we can't really draw accurate analogies between physical and digital, because the whole logistics differ a lot

[22/4/2026 12:24 pm] Adam: At least now theres no culture or peer pressure for smoking but kids will get internet no matter what

[22/4/2026 12:26 pm] 365: Now given our cultural context and environment, should we be restricting, or using education, or maybe a mix of both. This is just the high level view, whether the implementation is even feasible or not is another issue in of itself.

[22/4/2026 12:28 pm] 365: I think education should definitely still continue, but with the limitations, it is not sufficient by itself. Unless somehow there is a new methodology for education that works much better through the current environment.

But no reason why we should restrict to just one avenue of solution.

[22/4/2026 1:04 pm] G: This is a low hanging fruit on the guise of "online safety" to put in place more measures to censor and control the population

More and more dystopian

More and more Orwellian

[22/4/2026 1:18 pm] Khai Mun L.: However, might there be a case for things to go whatever happens? We cannot protect realistically protect everyone.

Read recent news on some anti-vax believers, now get measles vaccine because it became too widespread and their neighbor kids affected.

https://www.straitstimes.com/world/united-states/as-measles-takes-toll-on-kids-anti-vaxxers-in-us-have-change-of-heart

[22/4/2026 1:19 pm] Khai Mun L.: Some harm have to happen in order to wake people up

[22/4/2026 1:43 pm] Adam: One big issue is the gov tend to overcorrect by the time something happen

[22/4/2026 1:44 pm] Adam: Now pcn is a permanent fixture that has dubious value in our car lite plans

[22/4/2026 1:44 pm] Adam: Many things are banned just like chewing gum

[22/4/2026 1:47 pm] 365: Why pcn has dubious value? I actually enjoy it, relatively better space for cycling also, and hope it expands more.

I think this is an example of just different people have different values and priorities, sometimes directly contradicting, and the government can't fulfill everyone's priorities at the same time.

[22/4/2026 3:25 pm] Joomua Tng: regulations do not solve everything nor most of the problems.

1.) Education does help. "indoctrination" by educating the youth is better.  The more you banned or regulate the more they will seek or find ways to find out about the banned and harmful social media. and it will get worse if no prior education is done to prepare them for such harmful social media.

2.)  questions is what sort of "indoctrination" education.

a.) critical thinking

b.) empathy, sympathy, education and awareness. (the exercise of putting oneself in the "places" of the victims or situation. e.g. is slavery moral ? if yes, why ? if no, why? what if you are the slave? will you think it is moral?)

c. factual, scientific education. e.g. sex, STD and STI. what are the dangers. certain STD cannot be fully cured and worse, it will affect the next generation.

d.) building sterilization environment is not a good way to protect the youth or people. equip the people with the ability to filter out the harmful is better. similar to human body.

human body immune system has to "learn" what are beneficial external bacteria or body  and what are harmful external bacteria and bodys.

a baby or child in fully sterilization environment will experience more health problem growing up into adults.

e.) same for harmful social media that promote terrorism. e.g. man made law is inferior to gods' law. encourage them to think. really?

what is the flaw in that statement of man made law is inferior to gods' law.

have they heard of a historical incident of 河神娶妻,during the ancient china?

"The River God Marries a Bride" usually refers to an old superstitious custom recorded in *Ximen Bao's Governance of Ye*, namely, the River God taking a bride. It describes a story from the Warring States period where local officials and shamans used superstition to fool the people, extort money, and kill people. Ultimately, the ruler of Ye in Wei ordered Ximen Bao to dispel the superstition, execute the witch and the three elders, and abolish this evil custom. The term later became a metaphor for using superstition for fraud or personal gain.

People's Daily Online Theory

+1 Key Points

Story Background: During the Warring States period, in Ye, a witch and three elders (local minor officials) forced the people to select beautiful girls from their towns every year and send them to the Zhang River to marry the River God (River God). Legend had it that if they didn't marry, there would be a great flood.

Essence: A feudal superstitious act of extortion that led to the tragic deaths of many young women, causing great suffering to the people.

Breaker: Ximen Bao, after investigating the matter thoroughly, used the excuse that "the girl wasn't pretty" to throw the witch and the officials into the river one after another, thus completely abolishing this evil custom.

Cultural Impact: It became a classic story for later generations to expose ignorance and combat feudal superstition.

.....

so what make you think that there is god and the people claiming gods' law is superior than man made law is not a lie

.....

f.) the way to protect youth or population from harmful social media is to equip youth and population the ability to protect themselves through critical thinking, moral education , especially important from a young age. primary school to secondary school and including polytechnics, Junior college and universities.

[22/4/2026 3:30 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. My family, siblings' families and close friends' families do not have young children yet, I can't assess the harm of social meida on young children.

2. But from an adult lens, social media indeed have negative influence on our mood, anxiety and sometimes can be disturbing and even distressing - depending on the type of videos push through by algorithmic feeds. (Though most of the time entertaining if looking at hilarious videos, news feed, music and funny pranks that are harmless)

For eg. this Tik Tok video that is push to me even though I don't like such video.

https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSH7YP7p1/

See the abuse in video.

3. Normally, I will skip such abusive videos if feed to me, but sometimes out of curiousity may view 1 or 2 such videos - and find it disturbing and distressing.

It make me angry why people can be cruel and ruthless to abuse the weaker person, why no one stop such abuse, why cannot do something to stop the abuse and help the victim (as this happen in a foreign country), the only thing I can do is to post a comment to request the local there report to the Police to save the victim.

4. But social media with negative content do affect people's mood, cause mental distress, being corner into an echo chamber that could affect the perspective we look at issues and cloud our judgement --- even to adults.

5. So I wonder how would children with developmental mental cognitive capacities process such social media content and videos - without negatively affected in their upbringing?

This is what that keep me thinking - especially when parents nowadays just buy smartphones to their children to keep them occupied. I see so many of such instances in food court - whereby the children, school children glue to their smartphones even when they are eating, walking...

[22/4/2026 3:34 pm] Joomua Tng: all the more reason the youth and population must  learn how to manage and deal with such things.

people mental health problem, harmful social media problem occurs partly people do not know how to manage or cope with it.

equipped the youth and people with the abilities than just shielding them from such things without the abilities of coping, managing, critically thinking and drawing a hard line of what is right or not right, fantasy from reality.

......

avoiding, shielding or a sterilized environment is not a long term solutions

[22/4/2026 3:48 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. And I read that many Countries even Western Countries, ASEAN Countries are coining or contemplating banning or restraining social media for young children.

Young children refer to 16 or 18 ? years and below - where their cognitive development is still not mature - unable to fully ascertain what is right or wrong.

2. Professional child development, psychiatrist, psychologists, neuroscience experts views - I feel will be important to provide independent and professional assessment how young children of such ages will be affected - if consistently exposed to negative social media feed and contents.

3. I happen to chance upon an algoritmic video feeds of programme that interview young children - preschool ones and some older ones --- by asking them innocent questions about their parents and their families.

4. I was awed by their response, observation and how they process what they observe, experience and form mental judgement.

Indeed their cognitive abilites exceeded adult's assessment on such young children.

5. What these young children see in social media - how they copy and imitate them - can be astounding.

6. On hindsight, I feel that some restrictions on what these young children see - through controlled algorithmic feeds may be necessary.

7. Until they are older, 18 years and above, when their mental cognitive development has matured, then restrictions can be lifted - the same access like adult.

[22/4/2026 4:04 pm] REACH Singapore: 📢 Topic 📢

[22/4/2026 4:06 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. The internet, the AI like Chatgpt, the search engine are so wide and porous and definitely loopholes will be there.

2. No amount of firewall, proxy content or filter can totally blocked undesirable contents - definitely some will slip through.

3. But the 1st cut control of algoritmic feeds not to push vast amount of negative contents in social media to the children - will block off majority of children from access to the negative videos - will help.

4. Let us put this hypothesis to the adult.

Imagine our mainstream media are filled with negative contents eg. CNA, Channel 8, 5, U, etc broadcast porno, abusive, violence, echo chambers etc contents instead of news feed, family friendly dramas, educational contents ---- can we in the same breath say, don't control, we need to exercise critical thinking, filter out etc...

5. Human psychology and mental absorption - will definitely be influenced by what we see - and affect us mentally because we are affected by the 5 mental aggregates :-

a. 5 senses - eyes, sounds, taste, touch, smell.

b. Feelings - positive, negative, neutral

c. Perception - based on what we see, what we hear, what we experience - and form perception.

d. Judgement - and we develop judgement - could be positive, negative, right, wrong, rational, logic or irrational or illogical

e. Mental formation - how we see this world, how we react and respond

6. Imagine if we keep seeing negative things --- be it we are a very strong critical thinker - we will still be negatively influencced even as an adult - not to mention young children.

7. Ancient Wise Men say - see no evil, talk no evil, think no evil.

Imagine social media, mainstream media keep broadcasting - see evil, talk evil - influence you to think evil.....

[22/4/2026 4:13 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Now let us further push the hypothesis to the now manifesting Geopolitical tensions and conflicts.

Even balance views powers like France, China, Malaysia, India, etc that often exercise critical thinking - can be swerved by fear of no fuel - and make unwholesome decisions - to negotiate to pay ransom money, pay tolls by breaking international laws - because when one do, the rest follow.

Until one tiny little red dot, with clear mind, stand out to say, we will not negotiate to pay toll, we will conform to international law.

Then suddenly the whole world wake up - and see the light of wisdom.

And be a lamp unto the world.

So who say - social media content that continuously broadcast negative videos and wrong thinkings have no impact on people?

Be it adults or children?

a. Ignorance

b. Greed

c. Hatred, Anger

d. Arrogance

e. Distrust.

2. Imagine if social media and mainstream media are to run wild.

Keep emphasizing hatred that make people angry.

Keep broadcasting fake news.

Keep feeding the greeds of people.

Keep fueling distrust among people, community, society.

Keep saying he is King.

Just look at the American society.

Does social media breed good, kindness, compassion, love, unity, harmony among their people in US?

Americans are deeply polarised, divided, hatred, distrust of institutions, huge demonstration, full of lies, fake news... all propagated by social media when mainstream media are hammer and discredited.

Until the walking monks appear.

[22/4/2026 5:13 pm] RY: Not easy to ban/restrict social media, since nowsaday the kids grow up with social media since toddler
Everything has its pro and con, same as AI trend ....
I rem earlier SG govt restrict screen-time for children
Any review or analysis or conclusion on the above restriction after implementation ?
[22/4/2026 5:20 pm] 365: I think restriction works best if it's not upfront and visible. Using interfaces that suggests other issues such as latency or lack of results.
In fact for videos, I think degrading the connection is a much better form of restriction. They think they are not being censored, but the frustration of the video unable to load means they'll likely just scroll to the next one and forget about it.

[22/4/2026 5:23 pm] LCL (Danny 心):
As long as some restrictions will be good.
Whether is it 100% effective or not is immaterial.
Because definitely they will see some negative things.
But if the majority of positive things they see shape their views, they become critical thinkers and will see those slip through negative videos as bad.
Else if they are constantly expose to bad stuff, they may normalise and think bad stuff are ok.

[22/4/2026 5:31 pm] 365: Just looked through this, I don't think it means pcn provide dubious value, but it still has space for improvement and unironically, quantity becomes quality, as width is one of the factors being mentioned in this video.
A new pcn just opened up near my place and it provides a much appreciated route to move between nearby neighborhood

[22/4/2026 6:07 pm] Adam: Its a half baked solution i feel. Some might like it but I dont think we should tolerate this from our highly paid decision makers. Now its too far gone in infra investments to make changes.
Now got the new policy of central kitchen cooking. Some might like but looks like many tolerate it. Its still early but if dont voice out, tons of systems will be built around it and will be hard to change in future.
So can we get a good internet for children or will they enjoy it as good as school meals? Except we adults will be eating the same wholesome school meals alongside our young
[22/4/2026 6:07 pm] RY: Sg Govt may encourage more outdoor activities for kids and also for family bonding purposes
So that kids may spend time on other activities rather than always on screen-time
My childhood is without handphone, but I still enjoy/miss my era childhood
[22/4/2026 6:08 pm] Jun Ming: Especially for porn sites it's actually useful when you inforce you need credit card to enter the website
[22/4/2026 6:08 pm] Jun Ming: As most parents wouldn't allow kids to enter such website
[22/4/2026 6:09 pm] Adam: Credit card shouldnt be used as a check for age
[22/4/2026 6:11 pm] Adam: Speaking of this, in our digital economy, kids need to learn to use digital payments too.
[22/4/2026 6:11 pm] Adam: Growing number of places are digital only
[22/4/2026 6:13 pm] RY: China Govt has implemented no tuition for children during school holidays
I unsure how gd is their implementation so far
At least, china parents now allow their children to enjoy their holidays, and not forcing them to go for CA classes or tuition, as per china govt new restriction
[22/4/2026 6:15 pm] Adam: Im sure there is a significant chunk that force children to study on their own. Maybe some tutors do it hidden.
[22/4/2026 6:15 pm] RY: SG govt may also study or review Aussie case, since they are the 1st govt in the world, to restrict social media for children below 16
[22/4/2026 6:18 pm] RY: My era, it is easy to restrict as no internet
But now, any country can go without internet ?
[22/4/2026 6:22 pm] RY: These are the list of countries that started/starting/plan to start, the restriction of social media for children
https://techcrunch.com/2026/04/08/social-media-ban-children-countries-list/
Sg Govt may study how is the progress and challenges that each govt may face
[22/4/2026 6:23 pm] Adam: I feel like many of these restriction are simply an excuse for restricting the internet
[22/4/2026 6:24 pm] Adam: Id checks remove anonymity
[22/4/2026 6:25 pm] Adam: With the excuse to protect children it can also be used to id people. Companies benefit from more targeted ads too
[22/4/2026 6:25 pm] Adam: Id checks also brings the risk of all the data getting stolen. So much times it happens already. All the PII getting leaked
[22/4/2026 6:27 pm] Adam: In the end, even if data get leaked, companies are only given a slap on the wrist. Like my name is worth less than a cent.
[22/4/2026 6:29 pm] 365: I agree with not implementing direct ID checks. If there is a need for age verification, use a risk based approach using AI to assess probability of an adult or minor.
[22/4/2026 6:29 pm] Adam: How many singaporeans got scammed because their name and age appeared in a database somewhere? Companies use it to filter away children. When hackers get info then our parents get socially engineered. Old singaporeans are prime target because rich from cpf and not it savvy
[22/4/2026 6:31 pm] Adam: Lol, have you seen how bad the ai performs? Lots of memes online of people face checking with video game charas
[22/4/2026 6:32 pm] Adam: Kids will simply google 'how to bypass age check'
Get lots of solutions from youtube.
[22/4/2026 6:32 pm] Adam: Some after google might download malware thinking it will bypass the age check
[22/4/2026 6:33 pm] 365: Depends on the model, I've seen how some models are much more capable than others.
[22/4/2026 6:33 pm] Adam: Happens all the time. Malware creators targeting young children wanting to bypass things or get roblox money
[22/4/2026 6:33 pm] 365: There's another solution, but requires massive cooperation from the sites, so not feasible on a large scale.
[22/4/2026 6:34 pm] 365: Ultimately, there are much limitations on using the restriction model. It's not foolproof. That's why it's all risk based.
[22/4/2026 6:39 pm] Adam: There is always a risk online. That's why parents need to monitor.
Just because bicycle got training wheel doent mean parent no need watch while their children bike around singapore. Why surrender all responsibility such that public have to watch out for children
[22/4/2026 6:40 pm] RY: Sg govt may do a feasibility study, since other countries already started the restriction already
As social media is also an "addiction", and it is difficult to kick off once addicted
Also hard to monitor due to data privacy policy
[22/4/2026 6:41 pm] Adam: With how off hand some parents are, maybe singapores solution is to IT train maids which handle children
[22/4/2026 6:42 pm] 365: Ideally, education is enough, but you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink.
[22/4/2026 6:42 pm] Adam: Funny if maid restricted from using phone have to guard baby using ipad
[22/4/2026 6:47 pm] RY: Social media is not like gun/rifle restriction, whereby must check ID/any criminal history/mental capacity during purchase
Internet is everywhere in SG, how to restrict usage ?
And social media is also an "addiction"
Further, it is part of children (Generation Z) growing up stage since baby
[22/4/2026 6:49 pm] REACH Singapore: Dear Contributors,

Thank you very much for being part of our Telegram chat and participating actively.
Goodnight!
Megan 😊
[22/4/2026 6:49 pm] Adam: Sugar is also an 'addiction'
Like internet its impossible to regulate.
Try banning children from buying soda
[22/4/2026 6:50 pm] Adam: Scholl can control sugar. No sweet allowed. Just like no phone allowed
[22/4/2026 6:50 pm] Adam: Ultimately at home its up to how parents do upbringing.
[22/4/2026 6:54 pm] RY: If wish to implement such restrictions, SG govt may require -
1) work closely with parents
2) work closely with schools
3) work closely with social media platform providers
4) implement nec law to penalise if breaking such restriction
5) any rehab place that may train kids to kick off such "addiction"
6) work closely with social worker to provide further counselling/assistance

指路明灯 - Be a lamp unto the globe of darkness

[21/04, 2:28 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: Standing up for freedom of navigation sends right message: UN | The Straits Times

“I want to highlight the position of the Government of Singapore, which was very loud and clear that it was not going to negotiate on those terms,” he said.

Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said in early April that Singapore will not negotiate for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, as doing so would undermine the fundamental principles of international law.

https://share.google/4S7Kbwe0lW6XmzTvj

[21/04, 2:31 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: Reflecting on the impact of the closure of Hormuz, he said the current crisis underscored the importance of keeping shipping free and safe.

“If we start transferring the cargoes that come from the Gulf region right now to other means of transportation, they will only be able to ship between 5 and 10 per cent of what shipping is transporting on a daily basis,” he said.

“We can find new ways of operating, we can find new routes. But we’re not going to be able to supply the demands of the global economy.”

[21/04, 2:41 pm] Close friend comments: Singapore might be heavily punished. Just like how 忠臣 get killed evil ones live

[21/04, 2:42 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: I think as long as international bodies and other countries are on our side, rouge people like Trump and Iran will not anyhow move.

[21/04, 2:45 pm] Close friend comments: I will also choose to be right.

[21/04, 2:45 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: Yes.
Right is non negotiable.
Because it invite karma.
Good karma.
Bad deeds invite bad karma.

[21/04, 2:46 pm] Close friend comments: Actually there's something which Vivian said or that's sg stand - if we agree to paying for the passage then someone may seize strait of Singapore which the narrowest  is only 2 km wide and starting collecting toll...

[21/04, 2:51 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: Yes.

It will open the Pandora box of turning people to become bad and make jungle law the defacto law.

Hence as we walk the Bodhisattva path in an era of dharma ending age - we must always be a lamp onto the globe of darkness to guide righteousness.

Else if good keep quiet, the bad will rear their heads and wrong become right.

WW3 will come very quickly because injustice fill the hearts of people - and violence will break out.

Calling out the conscience of people to do things right will have the reverse effects of keeping bad people from manifesting bad deeds.

[21/04, 2:52 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: "Chinese President Xi Jinping calls for Strait of Hormuz to remain open.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made the remarks during a phone call on Monday (Apr 20) with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as Beijing steps up efforts to help end the Iran war."

[21/04, 2:53 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: See invoking the conscience of people, power will come out to do the right things.

How can we honour our agreement with Australia to supply refined oil?

 [18/04, 9:33 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSHTaCFkx/

Dr Clemen Chiang on oil crisis support.

@Babe:1. Why we can export oil to Australia but not subsidise our oil?
2. Because we need LNG to produce electricity - 95% for Singapore houses, office, commercial, industrial and government offices.
To even treat the water we drink.
3. in energy crisis, the appropriate economic and financial measures is to reduce demand and preserve supply.
Subsidise oil will encourage more demand and usage on oil - accelerating the depletion of oil.
4. Look at countries that subsidise oil, many petrol stations get dry up.

[18/04, 9:33 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: @Babe:1. Subsidizing petrol is using taxpayer's money paid by the majority to finance a few privilege minority that drive.
2. No responsible government, the custodian of the taxpayer money will abuse it to benefit a few privilege.
3. If you want to drive, pay the market price of the petrol.
4. Else take public transport.
5. Business and delivery instead will get help from government to cushion the high petrol prices to get their business and jobs going.
This is the hallmark of a responsible government.

[18/04, 10:18 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: 1. Government need to buy crude oil at the escalating high market price. We don't own the crude oil.
2. Singapore refine the oil to sell to consumers or export the refined oil - to earn oil revenue. We cannot sell at a lower price and inherit loss.
3. Subsidizing or making petroleum price low - will deplete our fiscal budget just for the benefit of the few privilege who drive - is economically and politically wrong.
4. Instead tax revenue earn by the government should holistically targeted to benefit every citizens, business and create jobs - to cushion against the high energy costs.

[19/04, 4:13 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: @Babe:1. So will crude oil dry up if Hormuz straits continue to be block?
2. Depends, because as long as there are demand for oil to power their electricity, willing to pay the market prices, crude oil not from Middle East will continue to flow to our oil refineries to refine the oil - so that we can continue to sell to our retail customers and our export customers.
3. Eg. crude can come from Latin America, Africa, US etc. - as long as customers willing to pay market price for the oil, crude oil will come into our refineries.
4. Hence we cannot lower our oil prices or subsidies refined oil in Singapore - because crude oil will flow elsewhere that are willing to pay market price instead of to our refineries.

[19/04, 4:18 pm] ☸️  Danny 心: @Babe:1. So can we honour our agreement to supply Australia with refined oil?
2. Yes we can as long as we pay market price for the crude oil. Because crude oil will flow to our refineries as long as we can pay.
3. So how can our government subsidize oil, it will be a black hole sucking our fiscal budget dry.
4. So if car drivers cannot pay high petrol prices, take public transport and don't drive.
5. Else we can't secure the 95% LNG with Australia if we cannot honour our agreement with Australia to keep our refined oil going just to please the minority drivers abusing their privilege.

[15/4/2026 9:59 am] REACH Singapore: 📢 Topic 📢

Singapore’s gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 4.6 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, below expectations, moderating from the 5.7 per cent growth recorded in the previous quarter, according to advanced estimates released by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) on Tuesday (Apr 14).

The advanced estimates were computed largely from data in the first two months of Q1 2026. MTI said that while GDP growth remained resilient in the first quarter of 2026, the US-Israel-Iran conflict that began in end-February 2026 could start to weigh on economic activity in the coming quarters.

On April 7, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong also said that Singapore's economic growth in the coming quarters was likely to be affected by the ongoing Middle East conflict, and that inflation was expected to be higher than earlier estimated.

💬 What are your views on the outlook of Singapore's economic growth in light of the conflict in the Middle East?

📌 Performance of different sectors

Growth in the manufacturing sector increased by 5 per cent year-on-year, down from 11.4 per cent expansion in the previous quarter. Growth was driven by output expansions in the electronics, transport engineering and precision engineering clusters, which more than offset output declines in the biomedical manufacturing, general manufacturing and chemical clusters. On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally-adjusted basis, the sector contracted by 4.9 per cent, reflecting a pullback from the 4.5 per cent expansion in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The services, wholesale and retail trade, as well as transportation and storage sectors collectively expanded by 6.7 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter, extending the 6.8 per cent growth in the previous quarter. All sectors within the group recorded growth.

The group of sectors comprising the information and communications, finance and insurance, and professional services sectors expanded by 3.9 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter, extending the 3.7 per cent growth in the previous quarter. All sectors within the group grew during the quarter. On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally-adjusted basis, this group of sectors shrank by 4.0 per cent, a reversal from the 4.6 per cent growth in the preceding quarter.

Meanwhile, growth of the other services industries such as health and social services and education remained resilient. On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally-adjusted basis, these sectors grew by 0.1 per cent, rebounding from a slight contraction of 0.4 per cent in the previous quarter.

📌 MAS allows for stronger Singdollar, raises 2026 inflation forecasts

Separately, in light of rising oil and natural gas prices due to the conflict in the Middle East, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said that it has steepened the slope of the Singapore dollar nominal effective exchange rate (S$NEER) policy band – signalling that it will allow the currency to appreciate and dampen the impact of rising import costs.

MAS also raised its all-items and core inflation forecasts for 2026 to an average of 1.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent, up from an earlier projection of 1 per cent to 2 per cent.

MAS said, "As higher energy costs pass through supply chains worldwide, a broader range of Singapore’s import costs will increase. Prices for Singapore’s imported intermediate and final consumer goods are forecast to rise. Consequently, consumer price inflation for domestic non-cooked food and retail & other goods should also pick up."

💬 What are your views on the outlook of Singapore's economic growth in light of the conflict in the Middle East?

Thank you.

Megan 😊

[15/4/2026 12:32 pm] Andrew Goh: Also concerned about how we can defend ourselves if we ever get into such a situation like Iran. Being a small nation, will we be able to push back (any leverage), or will end up accommodating to the demands.

[15/4/2026 12:56 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

My close friend comments:-

US May Be Eyeing Strait Of Malacca After Hormuz. Why It Matters To India.

 https://share.google/dTHw10fS879iTgBvk

Trump may be interested to control strait of malacca.

My comments:-

Hmm....

It is not far fetched.

Trump is out of everybody's mind.

He can do alot of unpredictable things that no sensible people will do.

[15/4/2026 1:00 pm] G: Yes. I'm concerned that Israel has significant leverage over SG

Israel also part of UNCLOS. When Israel blockaded Gaza, SG didn't condemn Israel's actions.

But when Iran blockaded Hormuz, SG very fast to speak out.

It's very selectively biased, almost as if Israel is controlling SG

How sovereign is SG really?

[15/4/2026 1:16 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. Energy, oil, natural gas are the lowest denominator to power an economy, production, business and every aspect of our economic functions.

2. The moment energy supply is squeeze, the whole world economic functions slow down and some may even need to ration their energy, world consumption will fall - and stagflation will set in.

3. Stagflation refer to high inflation due to energy squeeze, and slow growth and development due to many economic functions not able to start or process as normal.

[15/4/2026 1:17 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

4. Hence for Singapore to emerge unscathed is a very tall order - when the rest of the globe are struggling without sufficient energy supply.

[15/4/2026 1:55 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

5. However, Singapore government did very well to ensure we are major hubs in almost every critical sectors namely:-

a. We are a petroleum refinery hub whereby many crude oil from all over the world are send to Singapore refineries to process into refined oil, jet fuel, diesel etc.

b. We are a financial capital hub - huge money, wealth assets and financial instruments are flow into our financial hub when other part of financial hubs are in distressed - notably Middle East Dubai, Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar etc.

c. We are air flight transit hub, as Middle East global air hubs such as Dubai and Qatar airports come under attack, many air flights are diverted to Singapore Changi Airport as transit hub before progressing to Europe.

[15/4/2026 1:57 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

d. Our seaports suddenly become even more busy as ships bounded for Middle East due to Hormuz straits block are diverted to Singapore maritime hubs.

Bunkering services also spike to be refuel in Singapore.

e. Singapore suddenly become a chase after gold hub when many rich people are moving their gold out of Middle East in search for a safe, secure and trusted gold storage heaven and they found Singapore.

f. Data centre hub and AI hubs - as Big Tech moving into Singapore and some ASEAN countries in search of IT talents and safe place to run their digital data.

[15/4/2026 1:57 pm] Nicholas: Can see hawkers are worried, food portions already starting to shrink. No reason to continue this war and hope Trump ends USA involvement in it by this month. It is hurting almost everyone globally.

[15/4/2026 2:02 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Hence though the Middle East war is taking a toll on global trade, business, investment, manufacturing functions and other economic functions - Singapore somehow are mitigated by our steady pair of hands in governance, sound policies, stable environment and trusted hubs.

But in long term, let us hope that the Middle East war should stop - as the world economy need to heal.

US firm’s micro nuclear reactor could make vessels cruise for decades without refueling

The initiative follows AMPERA’s plans to seek a license under newly finalized NRC regulations.

[15/4/2026 2:15 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Thorium based molten salt nuclear reactor can even power a ship at 30 MW without the need for refueling.

Look like this technology is getting more and more advanced - and ready for deployment.

Singapore energy needs should earnestly look into it and see whether it is safe for Singapore to adopt.

If yes, Singapore energy needs to power all our backend infrastructure such as houses, offices, manufacturing plants, commerical, industrial etc will be secured.

Then we will have less worries and less likely to fret over energy source and disruption.

1. When there is a crisis, there is an opportunity.

有危机,必有商机。

2. It is whether we have the vision, foresight, well planning in advance to seize the opportunities when they arise.

3. And Singapore is one of the very few countries in the world that possess such ingenuity.

[15/4/2026 2:37 pm] 365: I think this will accelerate our study into the feasibility and implementation of nuclear. Just hope that while it's sped up, it's not rushed, and the proper checks and skepticism remains.

[15/4/2026 2:37 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Agree.

Safety and security very important.

[15/4/2026 2:38 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

But I think the potential of thorium based molten salt nuclear reactors very promising.

Thanks to a REACH participant that draw our attention to this nuclear technology.

[15/4/2026 2:47 pm] 365: Another point on energy sustainability is sustainable consumption. While it's important to reduce individual consumption to a reasonable standard, consumption still scales with population.

Without the infrastructure for energy and food to sustain a high population consumption, we should be relooking into population strategies.

With AI increasing individual productivity, I think the supporting (working) to supported population ratio can be decreased.

As our productivity is not in resources but services, there's only so much service demand to go around. With each person bringing more productivity than ever (and expected to continue increasing), the working population can be gradually decreased.

There's a limit to demand, so individual productivity and population should be inversely proportional. As of now, there is worry that there's not enough jobs to go around precisely because there's an oversupply of productivity (same population X increased individual productivity) against the demand.

[15/4/2026 2:48 pm] 365: I see that all these go hand in hand, it only makes sense to increase population if our productivity brings in more resources to sustain the increased demand for it.

Our productivity is largely in services, which used to bring in resources through trade, but that is getting increasingly vulnerable, so we need to rethink the strategy.

Yesterday news already reported that plastic/fertiliser costs are increasing worldwide, due to shortage of oil

In fact, the world whole supply chain is all affected due to this crisis, as no product is exempted, and food shortage and price increase are all expected

2. Our foreign affairs to make Friends with All and Enemies with None.

3. Keep emphasizing conformance to international law and order.

[15/4/2026 5:04 pm] Ginie/Komal ZENDORA J: Interesting.  Never realised

[15/4/2026 5:05 pm] Jun Ming: To keep our army strong

1.) st engineering turn over rate need to be low. You cannot afford to have talent resign after finishing projects.

[15/4/2026 5:06 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. Then we must be visionary to be able to secure all our vital needs.

2. In international space, keep drilling in the right international order.

3. Always be a lamp, a lighthouse, the beacon of righteousness in the globe of darkness.

4. Eventually, darkness will leave the globe and law and order will come back to rule the world.

[15/4/2026 5:06 pm] Jun Ming: So coprate welfare need to buck up. What keep us together is 人心

I don't want SG to be israel's vassal state, israel pressuring our politicians to send our NS boys having to fight israel's wars for them

Those who pay Iran toll cannot pass now.

Those who criticise Singapore for not negotiating to pay toll - now how?

Who has the last laugh?

Those who are complicit in breaking international laws or those who uphold international laws?

@Babe:Negotiation to break international law.

Now there is a price to pay.

[14/04, 4:30 am] ☸️  Danny 心: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which relies heavily on the Middle East for crude oil imports, called for the restoration of "safe, unimpeded and continuous transit passage of vessels and aircraft" in the Strait of Hormuz.

"We call for the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, aimed at preventing further suffering and loss of lives, ensuring maritime security and freedom of navigation and overflight, especially for merchant, non-combatant vessels and aircraft in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), minimising disruption to the flow of energy and essential goods, and mitigating its adverse impact on global economic stability," ASEAN foreign ministers said in a statement.

[14/04, 4:31 am] ☸️  Danny 心: ASEAN countries collective foreign ministers say - no toll, free passage.

Very different from paying tolls that infringe international law.

https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSHp9VLyB/

@Babe:Iran say US blockade of Hormuz straits is illegal, piracy and violate international law.

So Iran blocking and levying tolls didn't violate international law, not illegal, not piracy?

Really hypocrates.

Both Iran and US violate international laws - both are to be condemned.

@Babe:Now what is your response?

Your argument of negotiating to pay toll stand on very shaky ground.

Because you become complicit in breaking international laws by emboldening toll paying.

[15/4/2026 6:01 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

This is a strategic move - that cut both sides.

1. Chides the littoral State that control the straits for levying toll charges.

2. Chides the power state who want a share of the toll charges.

Both are infringing international law - freedom of passage and no levying of toll charges.

As shippers will have to pay millions $ for right of passages.

Eventually worldwide consumers will pay high price for petrol and food costs.

3. Blocking the straits is blocking global economic flow of energy, food, fertilizer, and critical resources - and must not be tolerated.

This apply to the littoral State and the power that block it.

By publicly voicing out the right international order - it become a rallying call that energise world leaders to come out collectively for actions and rectification.

And indeed, it has force the powers in conflict to find a resolution to stop all the nonsense - and bring back proper law and order.

Nuclear technology for Singapore.

[15/4/2026 6:38 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

The Minister illustration of a thumb size uranium pellets SMR will still produce radioactive waste though in a small volume.

Thorium based molten salt nuclear reactors - is whereby thorium mix with molten salt - to produce uranium-233 liquid fuel to trigger nuclear fission to produce heat, turn turbine and generate electricity.

The liquid fuel is being kept recycling within the nuclear reactor without producing radioactive waste.

Hence thorium based molten salt nuclear reactors is a notch safer than the thumb size uranium pellets SMR.

@Babe:Chronology of events :-

1. Malaysia negotiate with Iran to let their oil tankers pass at Hormuz Straits - fearful of oil disruption - suspect agree to pay toll charges.

2. Opposition WP MP in Parliament raise question to Minister MFA - whether Singapore will follow likewise to secure our oil.

3. Minister MFA reject negotiation to pay toll charges and Hormuz Straits blockade - because it infringe international law. Also paying million $ of toll charges impact downstream worldwide consumers that will pay higher oil and food prices.

4. Nurul Anwar take offence against Minister MFA for contradicting Malaysia position - arguing Singapore take side of US & Israel - with hindsight on Islamic vs Western faiths.

5. Singapore position is solely anchor on adhering to Internation laws and global economic impact.

6. Singapore position also apply to Power state who want a share in the toll charges and subsequent blockade of the Straits - that break International Law.

7. Subsequently, ASEAN foreign ministers (including Malaysia) - make collective statement - no blockade of Hormuz Straits and no payment of toll charges - directly contradicting Nurul Anwar''s criticism of Singapore Minister MFA position.

@Babe:What is wrong with negotiation to pay toll fees - for right of passage?

1. It embolden extortion (akin to paying kidnappers, scammers money).

2. It incentivise other Countries to follow suit - by breaking International Law.

3. It promote lawlessness in the International space.

4. Countries that do not have privilege of controlling strategic straits will be annoyed - and encourage pushback.

5. Worldwide prices to critical resources, food, transport etc will spike.

6. It could expedite and trigger a WW3 as more Countries go into economic difficulties that causes social unrest - (with reference to how WW2 started - whereby one main reason for the outbreak of WW2 - is the supply disruption of critical resources).

@Babe:

[10/4/2026 10:14 am] REACH Singapore: 📢 Topic 📢

Singapore will need to pay particular attention to defence if the global order starts to fall apart, even as the country builds resilience across energy, food and other parts of the supply chain, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Thursday (9 Apr).

During a visit to the Singapore Armed Forces, PM Wong noted that the Republic has to learn from recent conflicts, such as in Ukraine and Iran, to better harness new technologies like unmanned systems.

💬 What are your views on the Government’s efforts to enhance Singapore’s defence capabilities amidst global conflict?

📌 Evolving nature of warfare

PM Wong observed that recent conflicts have provided "a lot of food for thought" about how warfare is changing. The trend towards unmanned systems and different fighting methods, first seen in Ukraine and reinforced by the Iran conflict, represents a permanent shift rather than an anomaly.

He highlighted a key challenge: "You can have the most advanced interceptors, but when your aggressor is deploying cheap swarms of drones, it's very challenging for your interceptors to defend." These advanced defensive assets are highly expensive and time-consuming to replace.

📌 Singapore's strategic vulnerabilities

As a small country, Singapore faces unique pressures in a world where the global order may be fragmenting. PM Wong warned that if global order comes apart, there will be a "vacuum" leading to disorder, messiness, and unpredictability.

In such a world, countries may increasingly resort to force and coercion to achieve their objectives, putting small nations like Singapore under particular pressure. "In a time where we come under threat, no one is going to come to our rescue, and we have to depend on ourselves," he said.

In a world where the global order is coming apart, Singapore must be prepared for more disorder, more conflicts and more fighting around the world in the years ahead, PM Wong said it is important for the country to build up its own capabilities.

📌 Building comprehensive defence capabilities

Singapore's approach goes beyond just acquiring new military platforms. PM Wong emphasised the importance of integrating new capabilities across different domains, between operations and technology teams, and across different SAF services.

The focus extends to thinking about technology, defence supply chains, and overall national resilience. This includes building capabilities in unmanned systems while learning from global conflicts to better harness new technologies in Singapore's operational concepts.

Rotational Deployment: U.S. Navy littoral combat ships are deployed to Changi Naval Base (https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&rct=j&url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changi_Naval_Base&ved=2ahUKEwjRvsyHs-KTAxWZRmcHHb1sCloQy_kOegQIAxAE&opi=89978449&cd&psig=AOvVaw2-cW1wNMHVVgX-8ZKmj2ws&ust=1775880104476000).

Training Exercises: The U.S. and Singapore hold regular joint exercises like Valiant Mark (https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v%3DTg1igDoXA1c&ved=2ahUKEwjRvsyHs-KTAxWZRmcHHb1sCloQy_kOegQIAxAG&opi=89978449&cd&psig=AOvVaw2-cW1wNMHVVgX-8ZKmj2ws&ust=1775880104476000) and Exercise Lightning Strike (https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v%3Ds6__GcPYC1I&ved=2ahUKEwjRvsyHs-KTAxWZRmcHHb1sCloQy_kOegQIAxAH&opi=89978449&cd&psig=AOvVaw2-cW1wNMHVVgX-8ZKmj2ws&ust=1775880104476000).

Purpose: The presence is not a permanent base but facilitates a "strategic framework" for regional security and logistical support.

Singapore also hosts U.S. forces to support a "Pacific Pivot".

Although close partners, Singapore maintains it is not a U.S. ally and does not participate in a treaty-bound mutual defense alliance.

Fm the middle east wars, SG may have to be very cautious in allowing other country to set up any military base in SG

SG may have to participate in more Ally Training Exercise in overseas, so as to provide more hands on training  to SG military

Military drones (unmanned system) is the going trend in wars, learning fm the existing middle east and ukraine-russia wars

Thus, SG may have to focus more military R&D also, and learn how to destroy incoming military drones

Singapore protects itself from missile attacks through a sophisticated, multi-layered Island Air Defence (IAD) System. This system, operated by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), integrates advanced sensors, shooters, and artificial intelligence to detect and neutralize threats 24/7.

Key components of Singapore's missile defense include:

Aster 30 Surface-to-Air Missile System: This is a key medium-range, ground-based missile system that forms the upper tier of Singapore's defense. It has an engagement range of up to 70 km and can counter a wide range of threats, including fighter aircraft, drones, and precision-guided munitions.

Surface-to-air PYthon and DERby (SPYDER) System: A short-range missile system designed to intercept aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs.

Multi-Mission Radar (MMR): Highly mobile radars that provide early warning and detect potential threats, feeding data into the centralized combat management system.

Gulfstream 550 Airborne Early Warning (G550-AEW): An airborne platform that provides enhanced surveillance over a range of over 200 nautical miles.

Networked Combat Management System: A domestically developed system utilizing AI and data analytics to integrate sensors and shooters, allowing for faster decision-making.

Key Defense Strategies

Layered Defense: Air defenses are layered, with fighter jets (F-15SG and F-16) managing outer-range threats and ground-based missiles handling inner-range threats.

Deterrence and "Poison Shrimp" Doctrine: Singapore’s military strategy focuses on preventing attacks through high-level capabilities, aiming to be a "poison shrimp"—too difficult and costly to consume.

Total Defence: A comprehensive strategy that includes Military, Civil, Economic, Social, Digital, and Psychological Defence.

Constant Readiness: The RSAF’s Ground-Based Air Defence units are deployed 24/7, with personnel conducting live operations to monitor for potential aerial threats.

International Cooperation: Singapore works closely with foreign partners for surveillance and information sharing to combat transnational threats

[10/4/2026 12:32 pm] Nicholas: Why not ramp up local production of defense equipment in a big way, this can provide good jobs, pay and skills training for those who are unemployed currently. Based on the Straits Times yesterday, only 50% of private university graduates have secured full time employment. Well, employ them to produce defense equipment.

[10/4/2026 12:36 pm] Jun Ming: One issues can be settled with st engineering as I heard the turn out rate is high

[10/4/2026 12:36 pm] Jun Ming: The designer of the weapons is not in st liao

[10/4/2026 12:41 pm] Jun Ming: Then the army tech dislike st engineering and at the same time need them for repair

[10/4/2026 12:43 pm] Jun Ming: Everytime we say why the weapons no good, because it's designed in Singapore

[10/4/2026 12:45 pm] G: Military defence is but only 1 finger of that total defence hand.

Already we can see how current TFR makes us more and more vulnerable for the military defence finger.. If anything, PAP's policies over the decades have eroded the foundation with which military defence is built on: TFR

And just look at the economic defence finger.. We already outsourced so much of this defence finger to foreigners (aka mass immigration)

This affects the psychological defence finger. Even in 2010, one NTU undergrad already remarked to GCT that with so many foreigners in SG, he didn't know what he's defending anymore..

National identity built by our 1G PAP forefathers has been eroded by the last few G PAP's policies.

[10/4/2026 12:47 pm] G: "During a dialogue session after SM Goh’s main address, Lim stood up and asked if the Minister was aware that many young people no longer felt a sense of ownership in Singapore.

“When I was younger, I was very proud of being a Singaporean,” said Lim as reported in The Straits Times.

“But that was about five, ten years ago. Five years later, with all the changes in policies and the influx of foreign talent, I really don’t know what I’m defending any more.”

He said this was a view that many of the men he served with during National Service also held.

“I feel that there is a dilution of the Singapore spirit in youth… We don’t really feel comfortable in our country any more,” he said.

Mr Goh replied, “‘This is one early sign of danger… If this is happening, it is very serious.” He went on to ask Mr Lim why he felt disconnected.

Mr Lim told SM Goh, ”‘I’m still serving as an officer and I definitely would love to defend Singapore.”

But he said the key difference between him and his foreign friends was, “I tell them, this is my country. I can’t just leave here whenever I want to. You can come and play and work here, but I have to stay here.”

SM Goh responded by defending the government’s policy of welcoming foreigners."

Since 2010... Sentiments have worsened

[10/4/2026 12:49 pm] G: "Lim replied that due to the inability to afford the sky-high public housing prices, his brother had to call off his engagement.

“My brother got engaged, but lost his engagement because he could not afford an HDB flat,” said Lim, who went on to state that his question was not about “integrating foreigners”.

“My question was, how are we going to help the younger generation feel a sense of belonging to Singapore? I don’t think it’s about integrating foreigners,” said Lim."

[10/4/2026 12:49 pm] Jun Ming: The sense of ownership is not there liao

[10/4/2026 12:51 pm] G: Sentiments since 2010 leh.. I feel that things are worse now

[10/4/2026 12:51 pm] G: Every year TFR drop, every year NS enlistment numbers drop

[10/4/2026 12:52 pm] G: Soon before long, there'll be more foreigners than Singaporeans... Then truly truly.. NSmen defend foreigners ah?

[10/4/2026 12:53 pm] Jun Ming: When you see foreign counterpart having a better life in Singapore and yet we are sacrificing time and life to defend Singapore. And the dude say nsf is not transactional some more and refused to increase nsf allowance sometimes I wonder why must we serve

[10/4/2026 12:53 pm] Jun Ming: What are we serving to

[10/4/2026 12:53 pm] G: And this PAP nowadays like to muddle numbers and use "inclusive words" like "Singapore residents" instead of breaking down to Singaporeans and PR and foreigners

[10/4/2026 12:53 pm] RY: Fm the recent middle east wars, we can see many foreigners esp the rich immd bringing their money and exit eg fm Dubai to Asia eg SG

Hence the only people staying behind are own middle east people defending their countries

May not expect the foreigners to stay and help in the defence, if SG maybe being invaded one day ..

[10/4/2026 12:54 pm] G: Yes. This is the real danger Singapore will face or is already facing

[10/4/2026 12:54 pm] Jun Ming: Sometimes it just the betrayal feeling from gov

[10/4/2026 12:55 pm] G: It is delusional to expect PRs and foreigners to stay to defend Singapore when war breaks out here

[10/4/2026 12:55 pm] Jun Ming: On TikTok I see many overseas isranian go back to fight for their country

[10/4/2026 12:55 pm] Jun Ming: I wonder new citizens will they stay back to fight

[10/4/2026 12:55 pm] G: Every rational person with foreign hinterland to flee to, would flee. It is delusional to expect national loyalty from a foreigner

[10/4/2026 12:56 pm] G: This is the lesson learnt from Dubai when the missiles started flying.. It was so bad until Dubai govt went full on crazy with censorship.. Jailing foreigners who post attack pictures and videos on social media.. Because the Dubai govt were afraid that foreigners would flee and no new foreigners would come

[10/4/2026 12:57 pm] G: When there's conflict and people have the means to and place to flee to, why won't they flee?

[10/4/2026 12:58 pm] G: This is called national identity. Iranians should be proud

[10/4/2026 12:58 pm] G: Look at this:

This one is called love for country. Loyalty to country

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/apr/07/iran-young-people-human-chains-power-plants-donald-trump-deadline-looms

[10/4/2026 12:59 pm] G: In SG's early days, I dare say Singaporeans will do like-wise to defend their country from aggressors.

Nowadays ??

[10/4/2026 1:00 pm] Jun Ming: Some will still do.

[10/4/2026 1:01 pm] Jun Ming: True born Singaporean will still do. Not new citizens.

[10/4/2026 1:02 pm] G: And how many true born Singaporeans are left? PAP's policies result in lowered TFR each year.. and PAP like to muddle citizenship numbers

[10/4/2026 1:02 pm] Jun Ming: If gov stop betraying Singaporean and put Singaporean first yes we will fight

[10/4/2026 1:03 pm] G: Perhaps the ones who will still do are the pioneer generation people.. Since they are the early day Singaporeans I referred to earlier

[10/4/2026 1:04 pm] Jun Ming: Younger gen will still fight but only gov stop betraying us

[10/4/2026 1:05 pm] G: Yes. This is the real test of "We First". "Social Compact"

In peace time to win votes, very easy to say

Now far away conflict and price increase only, we haven't kena jialat yet, already can see govt trying to siam from "we first"

Tell people, individuals and households to use fan.. But ownself still on aircon in office. Still can boast "set aircon at 25 deg C"

[10/4/2026 1:06 pm] Jun Ming: Simple things like increase nsf allowance also don't want

[10/4/2026 1:07 pm] G: "Transactional"

[10/4/2026 1:07 pm] Jun Ming: Something I really angry about

[10/4/2026 1:07 pm] Jun Ming: Then defence minister don't take transactional salary lah

[10/4/2026 1:07 pm] G: Reduce every politicians salary by 1%, confirm can fund the NSF allowance increase

[10/4/2026 1:08 pm] Jun Ming: Some more moonlighting also cannot

[10/4/2026 1:10 pm] G: But president can 😏 Lagi can moonlight for foreign organisations

[10/4/2026 1:13 pm] Jun Ming: As a result we give you half done work lor

[10/4/2026 1:16 pm] G: "Five years later, with all the changes in policies and the influx of foreign talent, I really don’t know what I’m defending any more.”

SM Goh responded by defending the government’s policy of welcoming foreigners.

“You want to have a home. Who’s going to build your HDB flat?” said the Minister.

People mention foreign talent, those that compete for jobs with local uni grads, GCT respond with foreign worker 🤷‍♀️

[10/4/2026 1:36 pm] Jun Ming: A lot of weapons is designed by st engineering. How can Singapore defense be good if the job environment review is so bad

[10/4/2026 1:39 pm] RY: I saw this tik tok earlier also

Quite gd analysis, esp SG has so many foreigners working/studying/residing

That is why it is impt for SG govt to build a cohesive with Natl Identity among singaporeans

In Ukraine war, we also see quite a no of foreigners helping Ukraine to fight against Russia, excluding the North Korea troops sent by Kim

Not all foreigners are materialistics, as there are still moral-justify people around

[10/4/2026 1:50 pm] RY: In fact SG Govt may learn a lot fm this middle east energy crisis and on-going wars

In any country unrest/wars, it will definitely lead to many implications eg economy/refugee/power disruption/crimes/massive deaths n injury/food shortage and etc

That is why maintaining world peace is important

Ukraine-Russia war, we also saw europe suffer bec of energy shortage and refugee problems,

And africa suffer from food shortage, bec Ukraine is one of the largest  crops producer eg wheat/corn/sunflower oil and etc

[10/4/2026 1:55 pm] Jun Ming: But seriously if sg have war ah food supply and energy supply definitely will cut off

[10/4/2026 1:55 pm] Jun Ming: These countries having war now have natural resources such as gas so they can afford to do prolonged war

[10/4/2026 1:56 pm] Jun Ming: Singapore is a economic hub so when war happens economic hub will collapse and Singapore have nothing left

[10/4/2026 1:57 pm] Jun Ming: Let say enemy cut off our food supply for one month how even can we survive

[10/4/2026 1:58 pm] Jun Ming: They just need to surround our island with war ship and that's it

[10/4/2026 2:00 pm] REACH Singapore: 📢 Topic 📢

[10/4/2026 2:08 pm] G: NTUC say they got months of stock leh.. But you see now, conflict not even here, price spike spike spike

[10/4/2026 2:09 pm] G: An economic hub built on foreigners.. But PAP will tell you: cannot like that say.. We are all "Singapore Residents" 🙄

[10/4/2026 3:17 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. I hear the grouse of :-

a. Not paying enough NS allowance - that is why no motivation to fight for the Country.

b. As our TFR fall, we increasingly have more new citizens and PRs doing NS to help to beef up our defence - and the grouse that new citizens and PRs are psuedo-citizens - may not be loyal, run or fight half-hearted.

c. And many other grouses that they are unhappy about - blame it on the Government policies - and using NS as a chokehold to air the grievances.

2. I have been hearing this, experiencing this way long before today - duing my young NS time - trained as NCOs in section commander training - even selected to join OCS training being the best recruit - but I prefer to stay as NCO.

3. But come to actual boots on the ground - all those grouses no longer materiailise.

Let me share my experience, activate for real operation - a near real combat - before de-escalation come.

Live ammo are drawn.

Armour vehicles are brand new drawn from war armoury (not training armour).

All weapons are new, specially wrapped and oiled, support logistics vehicles never seen before during training are deployed in massive scale).

(Note:- this is not the only one near operation - at least 4 - except call off last minute due to de-escalation)

[10/4/2026 3:23 pm] RY: Some impt points that SG govt may learn fm these recent wars ~

1) has more than 1 military weapon suppliers

2) produce own military weapons eg drones

3) energy/water/food as Natl Security - must have own Reserves and produce own eg NeWater

4) dont rely on other countries for Defence eg NATO

5) Total Natl Defence including public

6) healthcare system - attract and train more locals into the job

7) more bomb shelters for civilians

8) enhance air protection against missiles

9) learn fm Ukraine how to detect/destroy military invading drones

10) more type energy sources as SG 90+% gas energy

11) expand alternative energy suppliers

12) build more underground for storage eg military/water/energy

13) Increase R&D in military/alternative energy

14) using underground/undersea pipes to transfer energy (Hormoz Straits crisis)

15) dont permit other countries to build military base in SG

16) build gd diplomatic ties with other countries esp neighbouring countries

[10/4/2026 3:39 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. During my NS times, all section commanders are NCOs - corporal trained as section leader and 2IC - trained to lead a section of man plus a platoon sergeant. Most are JCs and poly students. Of course we have 1 officer - OCS trained.

2. All our men, at that time are Hokkien Peng (福建兵).

So imagine, many not so educated - many don't make it to their O level, N level just being introducced, VITB (previous ITE) - and some are working as blue collar workers, my section even have a few gangsters (street fighters) with tatoos (at that time, tatoos are definitely "Pai Kia" 坏子).

3. After we have posted to an operation unit, my fellow NCOs say, not easy to handle Hokkien Peng (福建兵) - better sign up for some martial art training - taekwando - as previously unarmed combat is taekwando - whereby we will have free sparring with our men.

To command their respect, we must seen to be tough, capable and even possible, outlast and outclass them.

True enough, we have graduate from white belt, to yellow belt and to blue belt - before out men come in.

4. I first graduate from my NCO and then a specialised weapon training course - and the only NCO to handle this new group of 30 over Hokkien Peng (福建兵) as acting sergeant but holding corporal rank - when the rest of my fellow NCOs are still undergoing other specialised training - vehicle training - armour, bikes, scout vehicles.

[10/4/2026 3:41 pm] Jun Ming: We will still serve with our life but it's just heart breaking that the gov did not want to increase welfare when they can

[10/4/2026 3:43 pm] G: Ah this type of chest beating loyalty to country old school soldier will probably go be part of the human shield to block our SG power plants from getting bombed by foreign aggressor

[10/4/2026 3:43 pm] Jun Ming: I ord 2 years ago. I see many people try to take mc, report sick etc

[10/4/2026 3:44 pm] Jun Ming: They will take the relax job when they can

[10/4/2026 3:44 pm] G: New citizens?

PR?

When war comes, as long as these new citizens and PR got homes to go to that's outside of SG, the rationale ones sure will cabut

[10/4/2026 3:45 pm] G: Don't make the mistake of foreign economic involvement = genuine stake in SG

[10/4/2026 3:47 pm] G: Don't say foreigner. Singaporeans in foreign land also escape so fast. Did they stay? Many of them were there as foreign economic involvement. Won't be surprised that one or two of them even have PR in those foreign lands

RSAF send their plane go fetch them some more

And back home, we applaud RSAF's efforts (and rightly so)

[10/4/2026 3:49 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

4. I can tell you that the decibel of demotivated soldiers that I handle is far more louder than what I am hearing now.

a. Why need to do NS, money so little, I can earn more outside lah..

b. What is there to fight for the Country, I struggle to find money to feed my family, got family problem, money not enough, stick in camp toiling lah..

c. Challenging the NCO authority, I outside gangster 老大 - I lead my gangster 小的 - down here must listen to the "acting sergeant" --- see my tatoo - scared or not?

d. Why fight for the Country, I own so little wealth, fight only benefit others - i benefit so little .... etc

(Last time, foreign immigrants is not the pain point - because Singaporeans breed and breed - one family 4 children and more is very common.

But though my NCO peers have one PR (eventually he become Singaporean) - a Singh - but unlike what many people think that new citizen or PR who won't fight for Singapore and fled before war break out, he stay loyal to Singapore and toil side by side with us - and command a section of men).

How to overcome their grouse, stay, and fight as one motivated and discipline unit - remembering I am the only NCO around for about a month or so, while waiting for my NCO peer to come back?

[10/4/2026 3:50 pm] G: Singaporeans are rational people. War arrive in the foreign land they are at, they cabut.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/rsaf-pilots-repatriation-flights-saudi-arabia-middle-east-war-6021471

[10/4/2026 3:51 pm] G: That is last time. Now is now

[10/4/2026 3:53 pm] Adam: At this point some singaporeans are not real singaporeans

[10/4/2026 3:53 pm] Adam: Some might hide dual citizenship

[10/4/2026 3:54 pm] Adam: Even got that one news of going idf to help

[10/4/2026 3:54 pm] G: Last time for foreigner to relocate to SG is so difficult and expensive, and they use their own money or borrow big from their extended families to move. Only after much consideration then move. After foreigners make the effort to move to SG, also so expensive to go back.

Now very different. SG become hub. So easy to come, so easy to go. Especially those "foreign talents" because the companies that bring them here help them settle all those pesky paperwork. Lagi give relocation allowance. And this PAP govt welcome them. So for these "foreign talents" easy come, easy go.

[10/4/2026 3:54 pm] Adam: A lot hide malaysian and foreign properties while still benefit hdb

[10/4/2026 3:55 pm] Adam: Why even defend singaporeans as a we first society when so many others are going me first

[10/4/2026 3:56 pm] G: And apparently these "foreign talents" are here in SG because they are "talents".. Minimally, they are rational people. And PAP like to convert them to PRs and new citizens..

So when war comes to SG, why would these rational "foreign talents" / "new citizens" / PRs stay?

[10/4/2026 3:57 pm] Adam: Yeah let foreign talent be foreign talent and have the privileges and benefits of a foreign talent in singapore

[10/4/2026 3:57 pm] Adam: New citizens and pr have different benefits, not for people to plunder

[10/4/2026 3:59 pm] Adam: The privilege of serving ns somehow is not being paid for properly by residents

[10/4/2026 3:59 pm] Adam: Singapore can have airport levy for its development. Pay 50 bucks extra every time you fly.

[10/4/2026 4:00 pm] REACH Singapore: 📢 Topic 📢

[10/4/2026 4:00 pm] Adam: For all the supposed benefits the defense and security singapore has. Protecting its wealth and people. How can it be supported

[10/4/2026 4:01 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. I instill discipline through drill, I lead by example - toil on hot sun, march in unison, listen to their grouse, give my side of the view, take care of their welfare, fair with my rewards and punishment - as I punish with drill that misbehave, I stay with them until they perform the standard expected of them.

I never leave my men to toil, while I shake legs elsewhere.

2. When come to unarmed combat, taekawndo, I display strength, power and skill - as at that time, I have already won a blue belt - most of my men are white and yellow belt.

3. When come to do sparring, some men deliberately pick good street fighters to spar with me - but because they lack taekwando - that emphasize different style of kicking - their skill in street fighting render ineffective.

4. In parade square when I shout the marching command, the whole parade square reverbate - until RSM notice and talk to my CSM who is this corporal - who can keep 30 men in discipline.

This is how I command respect from my men.

[10/4/2026 4:01 pm] Adam: Cannot be measured in dollars and cents

[10/4/2026 4:02 pm] G: Yes encik

[10/4/2026 4:04 pm] G: But can you command the respect of new citizens / PRs today?

[10/4/2026 4:04 pm] Adam: I think he can. But must make them serve ns first

[10/4/2026 4:05 pm] Adam: Maybe if include women new citizen then can make them respect also

[10/4/2026 4:06 pm] G: Good. Then let's not let his talents and loyalty to country go to waste. Serve him special SAF100 to go back and train, instil discipline, and command the respect of the new citizens and PRs

[10/4/2026 4:08 pm] Adam: Good idea. We need someone like him at every citizenship swearing ceremony. New citizens will sing the pledge in full strength and in sync until CSM cry tears of joy. Afterwards new citizens receive ns letter

[10/4/2026 4:12 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

1. Finally, when I am in reservist, a recall come - an Open Mob, just a few days before National Day  - a real call for action - where heightened tension is brewing - intelligence that a possible parachuting infiltration may happen.

2. My men ask me - Sergeant (at that time, all NCOs have been promoted to the rank of a Sergeant) - all this assets we are holding look very unusual, the ammos we draw in such quantty, the new equipments, the combat ration we drawn --- is this operation real?

3. I told them, have you see the news? The tension is real, we could be in a real operation.

4. Then my men sort of worried - and say they don't have chance to say goodbye to their parents, wife and children, their siblings, their girlfriend.

I told them same as me.

5. But I say, if we really need to fire the bullets, will you fight like never before - to save yourself and your family and protect them?

(I didn't say will you be loyal to your Country, be a patriot, fight for your Country?

This is too far fectched for them to comprehend).

6. They say, if enemies fire at us, I make sure I will fight them toe and nails.

However, Gulf States should explore another very viable routes that is often overlook - which should be more cost effective and very unlikely to be block at the Hormuz or the Red sea straits.

This will solves the many decades of geopolitical tension in the Gulf States through many energy war.

[1/4/2026 2:01 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Den den den ....... Drum roll....

Gulf States should increase the pipelines from UAE and Saudi straight into Oman and through Oman ports - will bypass the choke points in Hormuz (Iran control) and Red Sea straits (houthis - Yemen control).

Then all the supertankers will berth at the Oman ports rather than going through Hormuz and the Red Sea.

This will solves the energy crisis once and for all.

The oil pipelines from UAE and Saudi can be buried deep underground - that cannot be bomb or sabotage - by ballistic missiles, drones or artillery bombardment.

But the underground pipelines need to be increase so that capacity can match those supertankers.

[1/4/2026 2:03 pm] REACH Singapore: 📢 Topic 📢

[1/4/2026 2:18 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

The pipelines from UAE and Saudi to Oman is much shorter than the pipelines to Saudi yanbu ports.

Hence it is more cost effective to build.

Also Oman ports can't be block that go straight out to the Arabian Sea unlike Hormuz ports and red sea ports - which are all a very narrow choke points that can be easily block and held hostages.

----

Financial Time Published Apr 2 2026

The threat of open-ended Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz is pushing Gulf countries to revisit costly plans for pipelines to bypass the choke point so they can continue to export oil and gas.

Officials and industry executives say new pipelines may be the only way to reduce Gulf countries’ enduring vulnerability to disruption in the strait, even though such projects would be expensive, politically complex and take years to complete.

Pipelines running south to ports in Oman would also face the difficulty of passing through both desert and hard-rock mountains, Bush warned.

Ports in Oman are not immune from Iranian security threats. Drone attacks on the key port of Salalah in recent days forced it to shut temporarily.

Political challenges also include who will operate the pipeline and control the flow.

A network of pipelines would require Gulf countries “to abandon their individualist policies and combine.

Previous plans for pipelines across the region have repeatedly stalled, undone by high costs and complexity.

But Maisoon Kafafy, a senior adviser to the Atlantic Council’s Middle East programmes, said the mood in the Gulf has now changed.

I’m sensing a shift from hypotheticals into operational reality,” she said.

“Everyone is looking at the same map and they are drawing the same conclusions.”

Rather than individual projects, the most resilient option “is not a single alternative pipeline but rather a network, a web of corridors”, said Kafafy, although she added that it would also be the hardest to achieve.

With rising electricity prices on people’s minds, Mr Shanmugam made clear that Singapore will study nuclear energy (https://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/as-singapore-considers-nuclear-energy-its-time-to-ask-the-right-questions?ref=inline-article) rigorously, though adoption will require very serious consideration.

In Parliament, he painted a vivid picture of the difference in energy density: Five one-inch-tall uranium pellets would be able to generate as much electricity as an Olympic-sized swimming pool of natural gas.

While Singapore will never put its population at risk by being a first-mover to adopt advanced nuclear technology such as small modular reactors, the Republic “can be a fast adopter”, said Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science and Technology Tan See Leng, hinting at the kind of drawer plans the Government is sketching.

But if decided safe, can move in speedily.

Government say we will not be the 1st mover.

But when we feel safe and ready, we will move in quickly.

[09/04, 12:31 pm] ☸️  Danny 心:

Minister Shanmugam SMR cited an example that refer to using uranium pellets to trigger nuclear fission, produce heat, turn turbine and generate electricity.

But as uranium is used, it is controlled and it also produce radioactive waste because the uranium is enriched in the nuclear reactor during the nuclear fission to produce great amount of heat.

The one that I am proposing is Thorium based molten salt nuclear reactors.

Thorium is a natural mineral found in Earth crust, valley, rocks etc and many countries have big deposits of Thorium.

Thorium mix with molten salt in a nuclear reactor will produce light or low grade Uranium-233 in a liquid form triggering nuclear fission to generate heat, turn turbine and generate electricity.

As a liquid fuel, it is recycled again and again to produce the electricity without the need to manage radioactive waste as opposed to the uranium pellets SMR that the Minister mentioned.

Hence thorium molten salt nuclear reactors are a notch safer than the traditional SMR uranium pellets whereby managing radioactive waste is less of an issue.

Still our nuclear scientists need to work with foreign nuclear experts to verify and certify it is safe before we move in to implement.

But on the hindsight, I feel the momentum of going SMR Thorium based molten salt nuclear reactors is very likely - because the potential is very promising.

Most important, our energy needs need not be held hostage and be hold by our neck by Iran and Trump to pay ransom money 过路费。

We won't be complicit in emboldening lawless ransomners.

[10/4/2026 5:53 pm] Ahin: Nope... you need to broaden your mind... Every individual living in Singapore can contribute to Singapore in their own ways. Not only NS.

[10/4/2026 5:53 pm] Adam: Yes everybody can contribute. But not everybody have to contribute

[10/4/2026 5:53 pm] Ahin: Even a disabled person can also contribute to Singapore... Ex: by being a disable athlete that is recognized overseas...

[10/4/2026 5:55 pm] Ahin: So are you going to force disabled person to join NS? It will be a burden to the rest of the platoon. Because in NS, Team works is more than individual.

[10/4/2026 5:55 pm] Adam: You surely have no idea how diverse ns is

[10/4/2026 5:55 pm] Adam: There are so much roles

[10/4/2026 5:56 pm] Adam: Even scdf got ns

[10/4/2026 5:56 pm] Ahin: Not to mention that there is sensitive information in NS... Can you imagine if other countries just send spy to become PR to steal information about our defense

[10/4/2026 5:56 pm] Jun Ming: Wo got school 5

[10/4/2026 5:56 pm] Ahin: So we need to strike a balance.

[10/4/2026 5:56 pm] Jun Ming: They can be in our cyber defense team

[10/4/2026 5:57 pm] Adam: Ok we can make a new ns vocation. Serve pri school lunch. If cannot cook then mop floor.

[10/4/2026 5:57 pm] Adam: I mop floor a lot of time in ns

[10/4/2026 5:57 pm] Ahin: Ok... lets take extreme case... What can a blind people do in NS?

[10/4/2026 5:57 pm] Adam: Thats like asking what a blind can do in society

[10/4/2026 5:57 pm] Adam: We can even study soil sample in ns

[10/4/2026 5:58 pm] Ahin: Ho..Ho... Every person had their own talents.... so NS is about talents in physic... so blind people most likely had physics issue...

[10/4/2026 5:58 pm] Ahin: So contributing for Singapore is about make use of their own talent for Singapore.

[10/4/2026 5:59 pm] Adam: Everybody has a role. Even if you think they cannot do it, I believe

[10/4/2026 5:59 pm] Ginie/Komal ZENDORA J: That's why our school PE need to toughen up a bit. Our kids r too soft. Need to make them strong n fit from young.

[10/4/2026 5:59 pm] G: Sometimes we wonder if he's a real person or an AI bot? Given the comments coming from him

[10/4/2026 6:00 pm] Ahin: I think we need to see case by case... Not everyone had talent in sport.

[10/4/2026 6:00 pm] REACH Singapore: 📢 Topic 📢

[10/4/2026 6:01 pm] Ahin: Yes... Singapore only needs to recognise the talents of the citizen and support them to enhance and contribute to Singapore...

[10/4/2026 6:02 pm] Adam: At its current state, we are ignoring our talents and making us mop floor and watch grass grow.

Are you supposing we keep status quo?

[10/4/2026 6:03 pm] Ahin: If only I had super Eyes that can see what talents of each person... then it is easy... but it is not a case. Spotting the talents also needs process and time.

[10/4/2026 6:03 pm] Ginie/Komal ZENDORA J: U look at other country men r tough or know tactic how to deal with threats.  In sg, sg police can't even hold down criminals. They wait for instructions or backup.

[10/4/2026 6:04 pm] Adam: Yeah so as you said absolutely nothing can be done. We tried everything and failed.

[10/4/2026 6:04 pm] Adam: Why do we need resume when sign on to saf?

[10/4/2026 6:04 pm] Adam: I didnt remember giving resume for ns

[10/4/2026 6:05 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSHxvjWKH/

Singapore and Australia signing legally binding natural gas supply.

Australia to supply natural gas, we resupply by refine ones in our refineries.

Mutual benefits, win-win.

[10/4/2026 6:05 pm] Ahin: Frankly speaking.... If I were the police, I prefer to be paired... not lone ranger... because Criminal is also dangerous person... I also sayang my life and family. so strike a balance... There is always a reason why SPF always patrol minimum in pair.

[10/4/2026 6:06 pm] Ahin: if you compare with our neighbour, you should be grateful for Singapore.

[10/4/2026 6:06 pm] Adam: Cannot be like that. Maybe you are talking about private security guard.  Police usually have someone with rank accompany

[10/4/2026 6:09 pm] Adam: Btw bringing back, if 2nd gen pr dont serve. Then just dont be pr. Singapore residency is not an entitlement

[10/4/2026 6:09 pm] Adam: If they want serve and be stateless, then thats on them

[10/4/2026 6:09 pm] Ahin: 2nd generation had to serve....

[10/4/2026 6:09 pm] Adam: If cannor serve cannot stay

[10/4/2026 6:09 pm] 365: Don't our police also have to avoid harming any perpetrators as much as possible, unlike other countries such as US

[10/4/2026 6:09 pm] Ahin: It is a mandatory

[10/4/2026 6:09 pm] G: Na.. the flip side is cheapening citizenship

The differences between citizenship and PR is very little nowadays

Lagi now PAP like to lump everyone together called "Singapore residents"

[10/4/2026 6:10 pm] Adam: Yeah mandatory to serve for singaporean too. Guess what some singaporeans who dun serve are at right now

[10/4/2026 6:10 pm] Adam: Singapore dont have to babysit people

[10/4/2026 6:10 pm] Adam: If foreigner overstay visa, are you gonna pity them and shelter in your hdb?

[10/4/2026 6:11 pm] Adam: World is tough and cruel. Everyone cannot get everything they need

[10/4/2026 6:11 pm] Ahin: I think it is all also related with Singapore birthrate... our birthrate is falling below 1... so how? To maintain balance, we need to do naturalisation.... So can only get from a pool of PR... because more or less, PR is already assimilate with Singapore.

[10/4/2026 6:12 pm] Ahin: This is out of context... we are not talking about foreigner...

[10/4/2026 6:14 pm] Daniel: This. And also cannot forget tgat a lot of PR are foreign spouses of citizens. I think for these the alternative if cannot get PR is to leave the country with their spouse and children. That will also decrease the citizen population.

[10/4/2026 6:14 pm] Ahin: If you put so much stringent to PR requirement, then the pool of PR will be lesser... and lesser naturalisation... will lead to  lesser workforce... and lead to inflation and price go up.. and so on

[10/4/2026 6:15 pm] 365: I accept this as a bandaid, not a long term solution. It's been bandaid over bandaid for many years already, and I fear we are past the point of no return

[10/4/2026 6:15 pm] G: Well.. PAP has to take the big part of the blame for that because of their policies.. and several of their political office holders not contributing towards TFR

[10/4/2026 6:15 pm] 365: Importing PRs wave after wave just pushes the population structure issue to the next generation

[10/4/2026 6:15 pm] Ethan: 1. Having a more competent foreign minister, position sg strategically that creates deterrence for any potential conflicts.

2. Spending on Defence to be more strategic, no point getting the latest equipment, or huge quantity of Defence equipment. Think more frugally where sometimes lower costs methods can be equally effective. (E.g. Iran using cheap drones vs US million dollar interceptors). Leverage AI to optimize our Defence further.

Redirect the savings yield from the above two points to more domestic matters.

[10/4/2026 6:15 pm] 365: Next generation will have an even larger elder population to support with less working population

[10/4/2026 6:16 pm] Ahin: So... the only solution is to make more Singaporean Baby... however, Singaporean may  or may not make baby in good economic condition... but in bad economic condition... surely no baby.... So Government only had one way to go... to make sure Singapore economy robust... by attracting talent... That's why PR came into picture... if you put so much strain on PR... do you think the talent will come here?

[10/4/2026 6:17 pm] G: So now PAP has made the SG economy addicted to foreigners

For addicts, is it better to wean them off the substance of addiction? Or better to keep feeding the substance of addiction?

[10/4/2026 6:17 pm] 365: The overarching issue is that we have over relied on this cheap solution with nothing for long term

[10/4/2026 6:18 pm] G: And artificially inflate GDP growth numbers and in turn, the bonuses of the political office holders

[10/4/2026 6:18 pm] Ahin: Don't you know that there are many PR Applications and Government had been more stringent compare to 20 years ago...

[10/4/2026 6:18 pm] 365: We actually need a slow reduction in population and reverse the structure, yet also cannot let it suddenly tank also. It has to be gradual.

[10/4/2026 6:18 pm] Ahin: any other idea?

[10/4/2026 6:19 pm] G: It's been a decades long unhealthy addiction which generations of singaporeans have called out on

[10/4/2026 6:19 pm] Jun Ming: Better welfare is the key

[10/4/2026 6:20 pm] Jun Ming: When things seems optimistic people will automatically give birth

[10/4/2026 6:20 pm] Adam: For one the bto system need change

[10/4/2026 6:20 pm] Ahin: A bit hard... because more and more citizen is becoming old...and we need younger generation to run economic ... to replace the older workforce that retire... but our birthrate is below 1.... How? So don't complain if now you got 1 salary for 2 jobs... because 2 older people retired and replace by 1 person.

[10/4/2026 6:20 pm] Adam: We shouldve built before families need it, not after

[10/4/2026 6:20 pm] Adam: 5 years childbearing age gone

[10/4/2026 6:21 pm] Ahin: Think more to the future and solutions... don't look back... it is too late to regret...

[10/4/2026 6:21 pm] Jun Ming: If trend is life getting harder year by year people will not give birth

[10/4/2026 6:21 pm] Jun Ming: Basic welfare of nsf also don't want to improve why give birth

[10/4/2026 6:21 pm] 365: Like I mentioned, it's a bandaid. I accept the circumstances that require this immediately. I'm just disappointed that they are reliant on this for so many years, it's not supposed to be a long term solution.

[10/4/2026 6:22 pm] Ahin: Yes... That's why we need talent people... we are talking about efficiency... we embrace technology... but remember... when we try to attract talent people, we can't be too stringent. They will go to other country... in the end, we are the one at loose end.... This is about striking a balance.

[10/4/2026 6:22 pm] Jun Ming: It's not like the country cannot afford

[10/4/2026 6:22 pm] Ahin: So always look at the bigger picture...

[10/4/2026 6:22 pm] 365: Actually PR is ok, but not conversion to citizenship.

[10/4/2026 6:23 pm] Ahin: So what is the long term solution?

[10/4/2026 6:23 pm] Jun Ming: 2 years for naturalization is too lenient

[10/4/2026 6:23 pm] 365: PR means they complete already they go back, we don't need to support their elder age

[10/4/2026 6:23 pm] Ginie/Komal ZENDORA J: Pair ok. But not strong.  Or know martial arts.  Actually we should have everyone take up atleast 1 martial art.

[10/4/2026 6:24 pm] Ahin: If that's the case, Singapore will be stuck with less talented PR... because the good one will move away when you reject citizenship.

[10/4/2026 6:24 pm] 365: We may have less, but not excessively less, because we still provide them safety and economic benefits for their time of stay

[10/4/2026 6:25 pm] Ahin: Bro, frankly speaking I prefer Police with brain than brawl....

[10/4/2026 6:25 pm] Ginie/Komal ZENDORA J: Should have both

[10/4/2026 6:25 pm] Ahin: The brawl can be replaced with technology... the brain is harder to be replaced.

[10/4/2026 6:26 pm] 365: Besides, it's time to grow inwards, it's been so many years already, we have gone past the time of fighting tooth and nail. While I agree we should still strive to be better, we are now in a much more stable stage where we can afford to drop a few numbers for PR.

[10/4/2026 6:26 pm] Adam: Imo its the rigour of the naturalisation process that is questionable.

It feels like many citizens here do not have a stake in singapore. Loyalties divided. Many dont talk english. Many dont have minority friends

[10/4/2026 6:27 pm] Adam: If PR can prove they are truly 100% a citizen, by all means give it to them. But right now the sacrifices citizens make can never be matched by the normal naturalisation process

[10/4/2026 6:27 pm] 365: I have previously suggested that citizenship consideration should include children converting to, or already citizens of Singapore. This will be their stake. I also suggested this to be a black box, so I won't be sure if they've ever implemented it.

[10/4/2026 6:27 pm] Ahin: Bro, Relationship takes 2 hands to clap... They don't speak English.... Try to learn their language... Communication is only tool. The most important is the heart and intention.

[10/4/2026 6:28 pm] Ahin: Then how? Improve birthrate? how?

[10/4/2026 6:28 pm] 365: By having children being citizen as part of the requirement, we also get to have our replacements for them ready when they grow old.

[10/4/2026 6:28 pm] Adam: Lol you expecting singaporeans to learn another language. Next will you ask muslims to join them for lunch at their non halal chinese langague only restaurant

[10/4/2026 6:28 pm] Ginie/Komal ZENDORA J: In real life situation.  Face to face

[10/4/2026 6:28 pm] Ahin: I slowly see from 1.05 became 1.02.... then now 0.89..... it is very alarming... The singaporean is shrinking...

[10/4/2026 6:30 pm] Ahin: haha... you are out of context already.... we are talking about language... bro... Is there haram language?

[10/4/2026 6:31 pm] Adam: I kinda pity some malay gen alphas. Parents make them learn chinese on top of malay because needed in this age

[10/4/2026 6:31 pm] Adam: Well better start early i guess so good on them

[10/4/2026 6:31 pm] Ahin: It is the other way around... I am proud with them... They are willing to learn.... This is what we want to see in future generation...

[10/4/2026 6:32 pm] 365: Heart and intention should mean that they are willing to learn our common communicating language

[10/4/2026 6:32 pm] 365: How can you say you have heart and intention then want the locals to change to fit you instead

[10/4/2026 6:32 pm] Ahin: Like I say... it takes 2 hands to clap.... so vice versa... are you willing to learn their language too?

[10/4/2026 6:32 pm] 365: If I am the one migrating then yes

[10/4/2026 6:33 pm] 365: When in Rome, do as the Romans do

[10/4/2026 6:33 pm] Adam: On this, i doubt they are willing to be friendly with other races even if they speak their language

[10/4/2026 6:33 pm] Adam: Friendly as equals

[10/4/2026 6:34 pm] Ahin: Not the local to stay... do you think to stay here without talking local language is convenient to them?

[10/4/2026 6:34 pm] Ahin: That is generalization.... not all like that.... Many are friendly...

[10/4/2026 6:34 pm] 365: It's not, but they stay because we offer way more benefits, that the cost of inconvenience is worth it

[10/4/2026 6:34 pm] 365: That is just transactional

[10/4/2026 6:34 pm] 365: Not heart and intention

[10/4/2026 6:35 pm] Ginie/Komal ZENDORA J: So good if u can learn more languages

[10/4/2026 6:36 pm] Ahin: You are missing out the point... The important is the harmony, the unity... not something like Trade... I gain some and lose some... Just think of it... the more you acquire skill, the better... If they dont speak  your language... but you speak their language.... Who got the more advantage?

[10/4/2026 6:39 pm] 365: I think I'm quite happy with the skills I have now and the opportunities to new skills I have. There is an effort to reward ratio, and if effort is too high for reward, people reject it.

[10/4/2026 6:39 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

The current truce, may not be lasting looking at the trajectory.

The gap is still very wide.

Meanwhile, we have to look at all contingency to ensure -

1. Energy supply

2. Food supply

3. Water supply

Are fully secured.

Both sides are not giving in to have a good deal.

[10/4/2026 6:40 pm] 365: Put it in another perspective, why not they are the ones who learn to communicate with us in our language, then who has advantage?

[10/4/2026 6:40 pm] 365: The same argument you want to apply to one side can be applied to the other

[10/4/2026 6:41 pm] 365: Besides, let's be real, how many actually are imparting new skills to Singaporeans, instead of just being another employee that is easily replaceable

[10/4/2026 6:43 pm] Ahin: whoever wants to upgrade himself will have the advantage...

[10/4/2026 6:43 pm] 365: I think it's time we start a hard and painful transition into looking inwards, because bandaid after bandaid just causes the wound to fester and lead to a worse infection down the line

[10/4/2026 6:43 pm] 365: We have traded away too many future for the present

[10/4/2026 6:43 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Also be prepared the Hormuz straits will no longer be the same as before.

Toll charges, or restricted passing will be there for a long time.

Gulf states will scramble.

So for immediate term, Singapore need contingency to make our hubs even more vibrant.

More will divert over to our hubs.

We should leverage on the opportunities.

[10/4/2026 6:46 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Be it ship, air, cash capital outflow, energy, food, business etc - will come to our hubs diverted from Middle East.

So we must tap and leverage on this opportunity.

While other straits levy toll charges, we must keep our straits free from toll charges - so that more ships will come to our ports.

Our ports will become a powerful magnet - as ships will avoid toll charges and problematic restrictions - while our ports are open, business friendly and inviting.

[10/4/2026 6:54 pm] Adam: Im pretty sure a lot of people will huat over here

[10/4/2026 6:54 pm] Adam: Malaysia. Brunei all got oil

[10/4/2026 6:54 pm] Adam: They send oil here to refine too

[10/4/2026 6:54 pm] Adam: With prices this high, the region probably can profit from this.

[10/4/2026 6:55 pm] Adam: Probably can up the production to meet demand

[10/4/2026 6:55 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Good for us.

[10/4/2026 6:55 pm] Adam: Whether the profits from all this will translate to qol is another qn of course

[10/4/2026 6:56 pm] Adam: Like middle east and africa, although full of resources, money flows differently

[10/4/2026 6:58 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Other countries trust us, because we are trustworthy.

I am sure we will benefit alot from this crisis.

[10/4/2026 6:58 pm] Adam: Interesting info, malaysia exports oil, imports refined oil from sg

[10/4/2026 6:59 pm] Adam: But i think malaysia is also increasing their refining capacity

[10/4/2026 6:59 pm] Adam: Reduce dependence on singapore

[10/4/2026 6:59 pm] LCL (Danny 心):

Don't worries.

Singapore alot of lobang.

[10/4/2026 7:00 pm] Adam: Well singapore gdp always go up. I doubt my pocket money will tho
