(1) Looking at objective data :-
(a) Number of patents filed by China - 1.102 million.
(b) Number of patents filed by US - 0.58941 million.

(2) Number of R&D scientists and engineer =
(a) China R&D
(i) China local = 801,135
(ii) Foreigners = 127,042

(b) US R&D
(i) US local = 285,096
(ii) Foreigners = 293,76 (majority are Chinese and Indian)

Source :- Technology & Patent Research
(Apr 2016)

(3) Just by looking at the above figures --- China are set to overtake US silicon valley very soon.

(4) Trump and his team and many of their supporters --- will be surprise that labelling China as copycat is outdated --- as admitted by many US tech companies.

eg. Huawei has full 5G network and eco-system.
Ericsson and Nokia - partial 5G network.
US - has no 5G network only some 5G chips.

China is ahead in AI, Quantum tech, SuperComputing and even in some air-to-air missile tech (eg. PL15 that can reach 400km - far exceed US AIM120 - and US trying to catch up with AIM260).

(5) China is poised to be an innovator that has the capability to overtake US given time.

(2) China AI, 5G has overtaken US - many in the R&D arena know it.

(3) Your comments prove that you know naughts.

(4) I don't side US or China - as I only look at outcome, real statistics and data.

(5) Most of your comments i have seen - are biased and not worth looking at. And usually I will not waste time replying to such posts - and this will be my last response to you.

Danny Lum Let me drop more bomb on you: The inherent tendency to falsify (research) is believed to be part of Chinese culture, mostly driven by the need for researchers and academics to perform and measured by the number of academic publications as well as the number of patents applications filed. Can cheat more research money hahaha!

And if my country really have super-leet 'Time travel' tech (analogy) - won't even bother to file secrecy patent. Won't even trust my country's patent office, let alone China's lol

Danny, interesting data indeed! Scientific fact is as solid as a rock. No doubt t increasing pool of talent will advance China's tech by leaps and bounds, but t real strength is China's political stability n its fast increasing domestic spending power. A purpose-driven president can make a lot of things happen!

(1) Normally I don't dwell into political system - because each Country is responsible for their political stability, social stability, economic stability - and integration with the rest of the World.

(2) I agree with you that political stability is important, planning long-term for economic developlment is important and the China President is friendly with the World and did well economically by sharing mutual benefits with the World.

Of course there are some bi-lateral friction with some Countries - and as long as pragmatic and win-win approach is adopted - I don't see confrontation and conflict as the imperative outcome.

(3) China domestic market is huge - the largest or 2nd largest (if India overtake China by birth).
But China middle income earners have grown to 400 million people (more than US 350 million people).
And indeed if China focus on domestic consumption - by bringing up another 400 million people from poverty - it will exceed US in total GDP.

(4) US currently has higher per capita GDP, but China has huge consumer market with the largest middle income in the World as it stands now.

(5) Increasingly, if China focus on high-value tech innovation, reinforce its position as a responsible Global trade partners - China will take over US as a de-facto Global Leaders in tech, trading partners and global climate.

(6) But China must win friends all over the World - with mutual beneficial outcome to do so and not imposing its political system on others.

(7) The following foreign affair principle adopted by Singapore will be useful for China as well :-
"Friends with All.
Adversaries with None.
Build mutual benefits with Win-Win Outcomes."

"朋友满天下。
敌人无一个。
以互惠互利共识建立双赢结果。“

广结善缘。

It is nothing unusual for countries lagging behind in technology to catch up by following what Japan, S.Korea n Taiwan do: Imitate, Buy, Merge, Recruit n Copy. However, what makes an industry leading is its ability to improve their products through continued innovations n using the most cost effective solutions to make them into the market place in the shortest possible time! It won't be long before industrial leaders realise that just "protection" policies will not help them to keep their leads!

Talking about stealing technology, look at the following examples:
a. The US stolen and copied the jet engine plane and missile technology from the Germans. That's undeniable facts, the Americans proudly admitted it themselves, google it.
b.The CIA stole a MIG-25 from Russia in 1975 and copied a lot of secrets from the Russian. Again many literature talked about it and the US is very proud of copying the MIG 25. etc.
c. There are a lot of infringement of copyrights in the US and lawsuits are abundant. Just google it.

Don't fall into the US propaganda in news media and movies .

Bloomberg released an article about Huawei employees working for the PLA just before the G20 summit. The timing of the press release is so "coincidental".

Meanwhile, CNA released this article (and written by CNA itself) just before Xi-Trump talks later today and I believe it's good for CNA readers to gather some ideas instead of the Western narrative all the time i.e. Reuters / Bloomberg / AFP.

Glad to hear that technologists are not looking at things in a binary way, hope that this spirit continues to fester.

Despite reading article after article about China stealing US IP, the truth is that has anybody put a gun to the heads of US corporations to open factories or invest in China?

China stated some conditions and it's a willing buyer / willing seller transaction, isn't it? US corporations could have not opened factories in China but nonetheless, they proceeded to do so. In other words, those US corporations must have done their sums and came to the conclusion that it's a worthwhile price to pay.

Nonetheless, Trump being Trump, even if there's an agreement today (which is very unlikely), he will not honour it because his style is that he wants to win and win big and he'll want to re-negotiate when the itch strikes again.

With him, no agreement is worth the piece of paper that he signs on.

Meanwhile, Singapore already has to revise our 2019 GDP figures downwards all because of this ill-conceived trade war of his.

MAGA is making countries like Singapore poorer.

Ching Buyching Hey, bro, nobody in the right frame of mind will say football is a Chinese invention and Buddha was a Chinese man. But many people do not know that spaghetti and icecream originated from China. I was attending my German language lessons more than 20 years back in Germany when my German teacher said a German (I can't remember his name) invented the printing process in the 1700s. I told her that was wrong. The Chinese man, by the name of Bi Sheng, invented the printing process in CE 700 plus, 1000 years earlier than the said German. The whole class, which consisted mainly of white people including the teacher, were surprised. Only one Taiwanese student stood by me. During that time, it was not easy to verify because internet was not common. But the teacher very nicely rounded up and said I was probably right because Chinese people were very clever and advanced in the early days of history.

Rukia Kuchiki my dear friend, dont believe in this sci-fi BS too easily ok and its quite evil thinking too.... still its not so simple, u do not understand assassinating a country's leader doesnt necessary mean u have defeated or changed the country's path and direction, another leader will emerge to take over, especially for China which even without President Xi will still continue their Party's policy and philosophy and continue what China is doing now and going to do in the future. Not forgetting the billions of diligent business minded chinese people too which u cant change, even if u successfully remove Xi and his party, u cant change China people who will somehow make the world buy their reliable technologies with much lower price and better aftersale service and support. Lastly, my friend, dont play the evil role in this world, cos evil people have no good ending, dont forget this ok, remember in karma too. :)

The reason why Trump and their hawks are worried sick because if China turns copycat into innovation regardless whether it is not so evolutionary the US and the whites are in trouble. Japan took the technology post war and commercialize into a better and reliable products. When you are a baby, you start to learn how to crawl and walk. By either copying or trial and error, the baby start to know how to walk. In this world, no baby can straight away know how to walk. This is applied to companies as well as countries. After certain stages, ,innovation takes place. It need the government policies and the qualities of people over there at the right time. Like 5G networks, no countries and companies can do as good as Huawei. Battery operated vehicles are done very well compared to the rest of world, so many invonations.
