(1) 3 incidents occur since the opening of Changi Jewel.

(2) Thinking aloud, all the Religious Leaders bless the MRT after many disruptions.

(3) Should the Changi Jewel be similarly bless - as Changi Jewel is Singapore gateway to the World and vice versa?

Poor designed or cheap manufacturers Cannot take long hour operation. Many problems since it operational. Some time things can not always go by the book.

It's Otis, it is not cheap.. how did you arrive at conclusion it is because of cheap manufacturer?

People can still die in Ferrari, Mercedes and BMW car you know?

What do you get when you pay peanut, ??
Foreign workers with no sense of safety , cheap labour.
Well the boy parent should sue the contractor until pants drop to teach them a painful lesson they will never forget

Foreign workers? Lol. Whatever building you're sitting in currently was almost certainly built by foreign workers. If you say cheap hardware used then yes. They award the contract to the lowest bidder. Don't be shocked when the lowest bidder uses the cheapest building equipment.

Yah than I probably sue the parents for being negligence and not supervising their children while on escalator... So if someone died in a Nissan or Toyota because the children let the child put the head of the car, you going to sue Nissan or Toyota?

just think...so many kids riding the escalator no problem just because of one, it is the contractor, jewel, changi airport, cheap manufacturer fault?

If this was a venue that has been in use for a long time without incident, then perhaps your argument has a leg to stand on. Considering this is a place that has been open for a grand total of about 2 months, saying 'so many' have used it is inaccurate.

Regardless, there needs to be an investigation to determine what was the cause of the accident and how it could be prevented. No use for anyone making assumptions about what caused it or what didn't cause it.

Escalators must be 100 % safe for normal usage by young and old. Kids use them and it is ridiculous if a foot can get stuck in it. Time for all owners/management of buildings with escalators, to bring their escalators to operationally safe, totally, or put up conspicuous signs about safety issues relating to use of escalators, addressing to elderly, other adults, the teenagers, and to parents and guardians of younger children. Also, please ensure escalators are regularly maintained, or the defective ones be replaced promptly.

For this I have to disagree with you. If anyone tried hard enough, you can even put your head in the gap.. where is the parent supervision here?

If the boy was indeed dangling his feet along the lift panel which I seen many times... Even my son is guilty of doing it.. it is my fault as a parent...

Eng Hong Ong appreciate your reply. The point i am making is - if escalators are good, then put up the necessary signs about proper usage of escalators, deliberately directed at parents/guardians of kids, so that the management cannot be held accountable when there is non-compliance. Time for parents/guardians to acknowledge they can actually help prevent accidents on escalators.

If just brushing along side the escalator's brushes can get their foot caught and crush IT MEAN ITS A NO-GOOD DESIGN, prone to cause accident. Its easy for the authority, CAG to advise , to blame parents and children be alert etc, etc. But with many mishaps since its LESS THAN 1 MTH OPENING, means their accessories, their design IS QUESTIONABLE. So much for boasting a $billion$ jewels.

"It's not our fault!" LOL

A spokesperson for Jewel Changi Airport Development said in response to CNA's queries that the boy's foot was brushing along the sides of the escalator when the incident took place.

It's strange that after so many incidents and warning to adults that this can happen.

I say it again......plse stand inside the yellow marking when riding the escalator.....happen to a boy meaning where is the parent or elder......no supervision n education cos the boy ride the escalator brushing his foot too closed to the edge of the escalator......i rest my case.

You will always have parents whom are playing with hand phone rather than looking at their kids... Loom at the forum here.. everyone is blaming he manufacturer, building management but not the parent..

They expect a 100% safe environment even if people flout the rules of use..

Remember the case where a show-off kid jumped over a 1.2m glass railing to show off?

Try brushing your foot to the side of the escalator long enough.. I can guarantee you otis, kone or even thyssenkrupp will catch your feet.. one stray linen or string will quickly pull your feet in..

The moving parts of escalator makes it almost impossible to seal off the gap completely between the moving steps and the side panels..

Why no one ask what the parents doing? Seems good to be parents today.. blameless. Blame government, blame pap, blame school, blame SPF...

If a boy put his head out of the taxi and it got chopped off, are we going to blame Comfort or blame Nissan, Toyota or Hyundai?

Statistics will probably show the Jewel is visited by more people across the globe compared elsewhere in Singapore..

Bear in mind, escalators use is not as common in some countries as it is in Singapore. So some parents probably bochup playing hand phone when it happened..
