    (1) By procastinating and not taking effective measures to stop violent, there are serious consequences :-
    - mental health effect on the whole city state will take a toll.
    - HK economy on all sectors will be badly affected - and already shrinking economic data has show many sectors perform badly.
    - more public infrastructure are vandalised that will cause public service to deteriorate and more public finances are wasted to restore damage public property.
    - more people will get hurt - when jungle law take over.
    - hatred and ill-feelings will grow as violent protest linger on that will lead to more undesirable outcome.
    - investors will start to leave and there will be more job loss.

    (2) Thus the strategy to "let the violent protest die out by itself" --- apparently is not working - as the fundamental root causes are not addressed.

    (3) The only useful way to address the violent protests are :-
    a. Restore peace, law and order on the street - by declaring "Emergency Order" to stop all political movement on the street. Get all students back to schools, workers back to work.

    b. Engage in real meaningful dialogues with the HK people.

    c. Seriously address the "bread and butter" issues of the HK people, specifically :-
    - Address the housing needs - come out with master plan to build affordable public housing for HK people.
    - Address the job prospects of HK people.
    - Address affordable healthcare.
    - Address affordable education.
    - Build enough social spaces and interaction for HK people.

    (4) These will be the only way to calm the situation in HK and deter people from coming out to the street.

The folly of youth.. impressionable and easily influence by Western propaganda of "democracy".
It seems to be increasingly the case that ambitious young individuals with little experience of life or work nurse ambitions to control everyone else's life and work.
How can a 19-23 year old officiate at events or mediate in disputes where his or her lack of experience militates against appreciating the fullness of the arguments for or against a particular situation?

But sadly, youth will never listen to reasons and will always think they are correct, and the harder matured people tells them they are wrong, the harder they will push back. That's the process of growing up which a lot of us have gone through.

So, looks like the young Hongkie rioters & arsonist will just have to learn the hard way and that what they have is precious and unappreciated until they loss it all.

One glance and you know how one sided this AFP article. She only interview one side. What happened to balance reporting? Why not a single interview from the parents' side. Look at the ages of these protesters. They were not even born when the city was colonized by the whites and they want to preach to us about 'democracy' from western countries. How many of them were working and for how long. Did their blood sweat and tears build up the city that they are tearing up now with their protests?

Those HK millennial are proud of their identity away from the mainland, they have patriotism & dreams for lasting freedom much greater than the food they have on the table. One day they would look to their younger siblings & even to their own children in the future & they would say "I am Hong Kong & I have save Hong Kong for you!". Now_ they need to be smart, continue to live with their parents, to love them & respect them & make sure the fight goes underground & that they should apply non-violent protest & civil disobedience until Business corporate themselves would removed Carrie Lam in office. Then the 2 System Policy shall remain & China would learn the way of Deng Xiao Ping that says moderate politics, pursuit for inner peace & economic progress determine stability & security.

Democratice Hong Kong? Yeah! For whom?

In China, the communist government controls the billionaires and media; in the US and Hong Kong, the billionaires control the government and media.

This shallow Hongkey is trying to make Hong Kong to be a democracy for whom? She and the other ideology mules are trying to prepare Hong Kong to be taken over by the children and grandchildren of property tycoons?

    Ha ha ha!

She so ungrateful. Is this what democracy and freedom is all about. She had forgotten her mother brought her up all alone by herself. Kama will befall upon her at later stage of her life from her very own children.

what's the point, losing your family and country over a western agenda. Why want to be a westerner's dog when you can be a proud Chinese?

You should be ashamed of your shallow ideas of freedom.
Your single mum has relinquished her freedom and made a choice to support you to be a better-educated person. Your mum is not interested in politics. Her beliefs are to keep you away from this politicking. Do you believe that the world is flat, and not round?

    Just Comments,
Everyone have the rights to protest and to fight for their rights & future. More important, know why you are fighting for and have the protest going the direction you want or going toward more(different) directions. Please look back and look forwards again to see the results and the impacts. Life needs to go on(so as reality), we win some and loss some, but cannot gain all in “one go”. Be considerate what you seniors have builds(also for us) and what you are “leaving for your next near generation”. Very important, are we making a better tomorrow?

Lack of understanding, both have a point, parents must learn to let go and do not use threats, their children have grown up, they have their own minds, parents are worried about food on the table, young people on the other hand are idealistic and adventurous, big changes came from them, one should not be overly worried about food because you can find food and shelter anywhere as long as you have both your hands and legs.

Democracy or not, its your choice if you want to be a pawn on either side. Or live life by your own will and thrive.

"I think it comes down to education. My parents were educated in China and weren't taught about democracy and freedom"?!!!

Those young Honkeys are just sheep! Sheep have freedom?!

According to Fraser Institute 2018 report on world ranking on Human Freedom Hong Kong is ranked third, only behind NewZealand and Switzerland. What more freedom they still want or are they totally ignorant on how much freedom they're enjoying now. They're now destroying the freedom they're having. These people are really living in a well and don't read and find out what's all about. What a pity! The day will come for them to know they're destroying the best they are having when the economy decline and collapse; and all's lost.
