(1) Singapore foreign policies is :-
"Friends with All,
Adversaries with None,
Forge Mutual Benefits with Win-Win outcome".
- so there is nothing wrong with Singapore to boost defense cooperation and engage in larger military exercises with China.

(2) With deepen trade, business and investment relationship with China - it is imperative for us to also deepen defence cooperation with China to ensure stability and peace in Asia Pacific region - so as to safeguard trade, business and investment in Asia Pacific - where our prosperity, wealth and peace - is contingent on.

(3) With close economic and military cooperation - chances of military conflict flaring up in the region is less likely - as top defense official can exchange information, cool tension to prevent any miscalculation.

(4) Moreover, Singapore design and develop most of our naval warships, armor vehicles, mobile howitzers - and thus will not leak out any classified information about foreign bought hardware - even when we conduct large scale exercise with China.

(5) We have participated in many large military exercies with many of our trading partners such as US, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand etc.

(6) So for Singapore to participate in large military exercises with China is of the same light as other Countries - in which we have friendly relationship with.

This is indeed a very bold move by Singapore Defense Minister that will surely provoke anger from "Uncle Sam"! Hope Minister Dr Ng knows what he is doing because the timing of it is just not right.

By maintaining a good balance between United States and China will ensure that neither party will think that they have full support in the region to wage a war against the other. The message to united states is quite clear, don't stir up a war in the region, you'll not get our support. When Clinton was president of United States, he asked South Korea to join united states to invade North Korea, but South Korea president told Clinton off that South Korea would not join the invasion as it would mean destruction of South Korea as well. I think the same logic would apply here.
