(1) Huawei can rely on its own HiSilicon and other non-US chip suppliers to supply them chips.

(2) Non-US chip suppliers produce US$56 billion of chips for Huawei.

(3) Huawei by cutting off supply from US - it means companies like Intel, Micron, Qualcomm etc will lose US$11 billion of business - and not much loss to Huawei.

(4) So Trump has indeed punish his own US companies - by up-ending the trade war.

(1) At the same time, Trump has gone mad to declare EU and Japan auto as national security threat and is levying tariff on them.

(2) The rest of the World should collaborate and cooperate more closely on trade to close up the gaps left open by Trump - and sideline Trump to cushion the fallout of Trump-led trade war.

At most US can slow down China advance but it is impossible to stop its rise. In a matter of a few years it will overcome the shortage and become far stronger to challenge US. EU has imposed arms embargo on China after 1989 but t oday China is buildng its own modern weapons unlike India. Trump should come to his sense, it is better to compete than play cheat to stop China rise.
