All in, Mr Heng also stressed the importance of maintaining a rules-based multilateral trading system, through trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

(1) With CPTPP ratified and led by Japan - now it is time to get RCEP ratified that will integrate all Asia Pacific into 1 mega multi-lateral trade (make up of US$32 trillion GDP) - much bigger than the biggest economic union - the EU (of US$21 trillion GDP).
(2) The RCEP will cushion and mitigate against the fallout of trade war levy by Trump.
(3) Japan is also not spare from Trump's aggressive trade war. Thus all the more important, Asia Pacific must close rank to ratify RCEP and emerge stronger.
