“We can’t protect jobs that will be made redundant,” he said. “But we can and will protect workers – every working man and woman.”
--

This is a very strong commitment by DPM Heng Swee Keat - "Government cannot protect jobs that will be made redundant.

Government can and will protect workers – every working man and woman.

Thus those who have lose their jobs should actively register themselves with WSG, e2i, NTUC --- to get the help that is needed to secure a job.

With such strong commitment on jobs for workers, this means the Government has got the machinery right.

The machinery is right and shiny and it sure looks great from the outside. But does that mean that the machinery is running properly? Does it require certain lubricants? Who can surely say that the machinery works? The people who build the machinery or the salesmen selling it?

Freddy Chin -
It depends on the individual on the ground - how each and everyone receiving the assistance from the WSG, e2i and NTUC.

Many are reported to have found new jobs with their assistance.
I also know of some who indeed benefitted from the machinery.

Though I will not dispute that some have still not received positive results yet.
For these people, more active engagement probably will be needed.

Please define what is working man and woman. So he declare war with all who don't earn a salary that G will not be supporting them. Such as housewife. volunteers, retirees.... We paid so much money for G to categorize the citizen just for them to complete a speech.

NTUC stands for Nvr Trust Union Committee. In1975 job is looking for worker during LKY tenure. Now job is looking for cheap foriegner. What skill to upgrade? I attended a few courses and jobless for almost a year. Anyone needs those toilet papers.

The G always asks people to upgrade. Many jobless people have spent their pocket money to upgrade but no employers want to employ them due to lack of experience and availability of cheap labour. Many campaigns by G are for show only, they can help Singaporeans find jobs which the foreigners shunned... due to crazy requirements... Sometimes I feel that Donald Trump might still be a "good" president after all.

The government has already been building all these years an enviornment where they and the NTUC are jointly together as ONE as for as telling the people of their importance is concerned and now they even pull in their party into the picture. Why so polictical and what message are they sending to the people reminding them that PAP is actually the one behind all these especially now that the election is coming round the corner?

They are talking easy, because they are taking salary from the singapore people's, but the trust that the people's give to them all this year, we are given full of miserable life, they want to control our life, our money as well our freedom. They think that they are god know what must, what not to do in our life that we all must obey & listen to whatever they say. But forget that the power is all in the people's hand to vote them out for good in the next GE. Because of what they did all the singapore people's life now leave in suffer life, but they are standing there smiling but forgotten that the day will come for all singaporean people's to say goodbye to them, & to vote someone's that could really open their eye & ear to listen what do really singapore people's need. Than we will see are they still standing there laughing or other wise.

Build build build! Build more 'nice-looking' HDBs close to each other. To welcome 10M population. We can't even see the skies, while these guys are living in landed properties with guardposts outside... 😂

10M population engaged in outdated and poor-performing economic and industrial activities. 10M to work more than 10 hours per day for less public holidays a year, with Saturdays treated as working days. 10M to come and 'consume'. These will definitely and artificially inflate GDP figures, which is loony Pinky's personal report card (and tied to his pay) and political 'legacy', since he can't do anything else to rival his father's achievements 😂💩😂

And of course, most important of all, 10M of 'fresh' people bringing their whole families here to vote Lightning, out of gratitude.

Megan Ram I was surprised, from the recent Japan coronation stories, that if 2 public holidays are separated by one day, they count that day as public holiday too! See, workaholic nation can also think of way to add more PH, whereas our stinky SG peppies think of way to remove rest days from us (PH/Election on Sat). And GDP still much lousier than Tokyo alone hahaha!

Good try using G to pretend to connect with the younger people! Sure it made you look hippy while it lasted, by using a contemporary tech buzzword. As predicted, you won't be using 5G for the batch after this, cos we'll be using 10G phones or chips embedded in our brains. Or maybe you're already kicked out by then.

I think it should be this way. NTUC will continue be belong to PAP . Otherwise let the Union member elect their own leaders. Am I right ?

They're no longer pretending that NTUC is not a political organisation. If they had any conscience, NTUC should register themselves as a political party.

Even more reason now for NTUC (and PA) to be disbanded when PAP is no longer the governing party.

In Malaysia, a fresh Master degree holder earns around $2900~3100 Ringgit.
Unless Singaporeans are willing to accept a salary lower than the Foreign talents (e.g. $2900 Ringgit) or else they'd stand NO CHANCE in this competitive market. It's a race to the bottom.
More foreigners = More workers levy revenue for PAP :D
It's a win-win for PAP & employers
