The Huawei founder conceded that export curbs from the administration of US President Donald Trump will cut into a two-year lead built by Huawei over its competitors, but added that the company will either ramp up its chip supply or find alternatives to stay ahead in smartphones and 5G.

As the number of companies supplying Huawei with components and software falls, Ren added that Huawei would use its own products instead.
---
(1) This show that Huawei has the abilities to keep going even with Trump's action.

(2) It can produce its own chips and mobile apps internally within China.

(3) With more and more protectionism and Nationalism rearing their heads in the West - all the more important, Asia need to be increasingly self-reliant.

---
Ren also responded to critics who claim that Huawei got to where it is currently through intellectual property (IP) theft and government support.
"The US has not developed that technology so from where should I steal it?" he asked.
"We are leading the US. If we were behind, Trump would not need to make so many efforts to attack us."
--

(1) So it shows that Huawei technology can also surpass US.

It is the roti prata president and his hawkish team of advisors that is causing the world trade problems, Apple is actually one of the victims as Apple products will be subject to the 25% tariffs imposed by trump. China does not need to do further harm to Apple as it is our Asian culture and values to return a bad deed with kindness and never force a distressed dog to jump over the wall.

China wants the world to see clearly that the downfall of Apple is indeed due to the tariffs and bans imposed by trump, China did not do anything to harm Apple. So don't blame China blame your own roti prata president.

US has never been more skitterish than it has been today for the last few decades.. actually Trump is "right" and "wrong" depending on if your are the liberals or conservative..

obviously trump base was built on the conservatives who are in favor of nationalism and protectionism (car, steel, agriculture, coal, oil, etc) which have suffered most in the face of globalism.

The liberals (mostly IT companies) which have benefitted most from the last 2 or 3 decades of globalization, do not see globalization as a threat.

Actually if the top US companies were to reinvest their monies back in US... there wouldn't be today situation... Sadly most US MNC prefer to keep their monies overseas to avoid taxes..

Agree. US MNC prefer to keep their monies oversea to avoid taxes, lower down production cost and logistics costs. Foreign MNC are forced to invest in US otherwise you are forced to close down. If you are in US, you have to play according to their rules whether you like it or not. I am sure a lot of Tech companies like Google,.. have to obey Trump government to ban Huawei. It is very sad. Where is the justice? Where is democracy? It is all hypocritical.

A few years back, US government wanted Apple to open data from handphone of his clients. Due to the company policy, Apple opposed it. This is a kind of US company I respect.
