(1) This is a 两败俱伤 trade war.

(2) Both China and US stand to lose in this technological war and trade war.

(3) However, if Huawei have staying power to last until 2020 (hopefully if a new President that favor multi-lateral trade win) - such as getting hold on its 1.45 billion domestic market to finance its grow and maintain profit.
Possible that China can overcome the difficulty.

(4) As interim measures, without access to Google Play store - there is a workaround to access youtube, facebook, eg. :-
- use Chinese web browser
- type in the url eg. www.youtube.comwww.facebook.com etc --- to access these apps.

(5) But as there are inconvenience to access such apps (not through Google apps store) --- the price of Huawei phone will need to be cheaper to attract foreign buyers.

I'm not a Huawei phone user, but Huawei will be my next phone. I will support banning Huawei unless US give a solid proof of Huawei wrongdoing and banning Huawei is a justified punishment, otherwise I will against it and so do any sound minded person.

If banning Huawei is only to hurt a country or limit competition, we all have duty to stand up against it. This article shows how deeply our life are dependent on US product, and cutting off Huawei will make worse.

Huawei can make new hardware handsets for another company with access to Android and Google apps.

Without access to Android and Google apps, new Huawei handsets can be rooted and get access to the latest Android and Google apps. Huawei can then release updates of its EMUIX and camera apps for these rooted phones.

Not a big deal and Huawei handsets without Android and Google apps will be cheaper!

This is the stupidest move the US govt ever come up with.
firstly, US tell the world Hwa Wei post National Security risk as it can spy for Chinese govt.
Now Google comes into the picture and compile with the US govt requirement.
So what stop Google from releasing critical information of individual, or countries to US govt.
thus US companies are spying tools , isn't it National Security to the rest of the world.

Second, Hwa Wei had prepared for this since 2018. It is an golden opportunity for Hwa Wei to introduce their IOS officially.
Hwa Wei is the no 2 Mobile Phone suppliers .

Third, US suppliers bear the blunt from this policy. $11 billions loss of business.

The US govt is forcing hard to make the Chinese govt to comply with their demand and agree to their terms in the one side terms in the trade negotiations.
by doing so the US govt has make long term blunder

I think at the end of the day, this news might send potential customers to flock in and purchase more Huawei sets before the ban kicks in. A good phone is a good phone. Until their own brand (made in USA) can make more practical and reliable phone sets, then people would reconsider buying USA brands again. Using unscrupulous ways and means to belittle the performance of the Brand is morally unacceptable.

If I made a perfect pumpkin soup and sell well, my neighbor use the same formula by reverse engineer how I make the pumpkin soup, is this consider stealing? Or copying? The way tech company patent their idea is really hilarious. If competitor cannot copy the functionality of an existing entrepreneur, that is anti competition.

I wonder if Huawei ever broke into Nortel office to 'steal' their trade secrets.

i think a lot of Chinese hardware makers are still held hostage by USA because most devices use American OS, like Microsoft Windows, Apple's MacOS and iOS, Google's Android and ChromeOS, Maybe its time for a new OS that is non American to be more popular to break free from this dependency, like Linux etc.

Android is a platform. Chrome YouTube maps and mail clients are application on platform. Playstore helps you to install the application on the the phone. Technically, Google has not stopped working with Huawei because you can always install those apps separately after buying Huawei.

Huawei just need to ensure the phone seller can help buyer install and update.

Also Google has open the platform so that developers can develop mail clients or even maps using location service.

The ban is Google working together with Huawei, not Huawei customers assessing Google services

There is always something called VPN that allow you to do the impossible.
Reply1m

Lam Chian Leong
黄柏安 -
(1) There is no need to use a VPN from the smartphone to access those apps that are accessible via the Internet.

(2) Unless those apps are block by telcos or service providers via Firewall or Content Filtering - then VPN will be required to penetrate the firewall or content filtering by encrypting content through the vpn so that firewall or content filter cannot block them.

(3) In fact those apps mention above can be access via any web browsers (whether US made or China made browsers) - as long as the web browsers indicate the URL link of the various apps.

(4) Huawei develop its own Huawei OS, create the respective icons to link to the various mobile apps to launch the apps.

(5) For those mobile apps that are written by the various developers for Google Playstore - Huawei can develop its own Huawei Playstore and work with various developers to develop their apps that can be launch by Huawei Playstore.

(6) Thus when Trump want to cut ties to prevent US companies from working with Huawei - is not really a showstopper --- except it is less convenient for consumers who are used to Android.

(7) But if Huawei can cut its prices for its smartphone for foreign market - I think it will still attract foreign market consumers to continue buying Huawei smartphone.

This is quite fatal. The thing that being blocked is not the apps but GMS (Google Mobile Services). The apps has GMS link embedded and it just won't work if it is not a GMS certified device.

(1) Are you sure a device required GMS (Google Mobile Service) to run google map, whatsapp, facebook, gmail, google search engine, youtube etc?

(2) I am using other OS with any web browsers and other search engine and I can run the above without problem.

What is wrong with copying if it is a good idea? The American language is a direct copy of English language and the Japanese language also copy from the Chinese language and developed further. By having an open platform like android is really encouraging users to copy and improve on it so that it can flourish. Windows lost its popularity because of the closed door policy. Google is a commercial setup and it will not cut off the Chinese business links but instead Google will find a way to go round the US restrictions and still maintaining the China business which is indeed a very large market.

This incident let us see how petty is the American. Because they don't want to lose to China in tech advancement, they are capable to do all despicable ways to bring others down.

US can do that to Huawei, they can do it to any other countries and companies too!

I think it's the time the whole world to stand together to go against this world biggest bully! Else, who know you could be US next target.
