Dr Balakrishnan said that despite Singapore’s attempts to be constructive and to keep the avenue open for a negotiated settlement, Malaysia must not believe it can take actions without consequences.
“For every action you take there are consequences. We will do so quietly but effectively. It’s the usual Singaporean way,” he said.

He also expressed hope that Singaporeans understand that some of these actions are done quietly behind the scenes, as he does not believe in “megaphone diplomacy”.

So indeed our Government did use a combination of "softpower" and "other leverages we have" to make sure that there will be consequences - if across the causeway try to harm our vital interests.

We don't talk only, we also act to cause pain to the other sides - if they perform actions that harm us.

Except all these are not communicated via the press.

Singaporeans must have faith with our Government - that the Government will protect our vital National Interests.
We must stand united and support our Government actions in dealing with across the Causeway.

Diplomacy with guns will be the best solution. Just like you can't catch a thief and then talk nicely to him, hoping that he'll repent. You got to point your gun at the bad guy and make him say sorry.

We used more than guns to combine with diplomacy.

For the past days and weeks - our airforce has been flying sorties to practice air drills and homing the skills ---- as a last resort in case if there is the remote possibilities of escalation.

I am sure we can see and hear our fighter planes take off and landing at our airbases - at frequent interval for the last few days and weeks.

Not to mention our Navy deploying many of our state-of-the-art missiles vessels.

Diplomacy + guns are still not good enough.

We must also quietly administer our "softpower" --- Economic power to our advantages --- which can be investment, trade and tourism receipts.

In fact, Economic power is the best approach - given that they are facing financial crunch.

“I hope members appreciate this fine line that I am trying to follow. To be resolute, but to be calm. To quietly but clearly protect our interest. It doesn't mean we do not have sharp elbows. If sometimes we have to do it, we will do so.”

Malaysia must not believe it can take actions without consequences.

“For every action you take there are consequences. We will do so quietly but effectively. It’s the usual Singaporean way,” he said.

The most effective "softpower" is :-
(1) Reducing tourism receipt -- because there is big loss to Malaysia economy - and we will not suffer any loss.

Instead of spending money in Malaysia - we spend money in Singapore and to other Countries who are friendly with us.

In total, we can induce pain in dollar terms = S$16.6 billion or RM$50 billion a year.

(2) The 2nd in line softpower is - trade.
By reducing purchases of some agricultural products like eggs, poultry, fishes, shrimps etc -- we can buy from other suppliers from other Countries - 129 Countries.

Potentially we can induce pain in dollar terms = RM$2 billion.

(3) The 3rd in line is reducing or pull back some investment - to the tune of S$26 billion or RM$78.52 billion committed into Malaysia.

The reduction in investment will burn the GDP of their Economy and reduce jobs in Malaysia.
