So far Singapore has display friendliness and neighborliness - by helping Johor on top and above any international signed agreement - in times of needs.

Singapore has been consistently displaying such goodwill.

3,000 household in Johor need not suffer from no water supply - and thus need not suffer from thirst, got water to cook food, can flush toilets, can bathe etc.

But when the old hat come into office - he has been always trying to pick fight with Singapore - despite many goodwill we extend to Malaysia.

Mahathir never really forgave Singapore for surviving and flourishing after it separated from Malaysia.

Back then, his purpose for cutting S'pore off from M'sia was to "kill" Singapore economically, and then expect S'pore to come begging to be accepted back into M'sia, on his terms.

So the more successful Singapore become (after separating from M'sia), the more he hated Singapore. No amount of goodwill on the part of S'pore will satisfy that old snake.

Paladin Nicholas Lawrence -
(1) You are right the old hat still has the nostalgic historical baggage that he can cowed us into submission - but we have way surpass the old hat in all dimensions - whether in Economy, Finance, Military, Social Compact, Religious and Racial Harmony.

(2) We have proven that Singapore Governance System is globally admired and serve us very well.
Conversely, the old hat discourse on governance has been proven terribly wrong.
Look at the old hat - economy down, finance down, racial and religious harmony down, people are divided along racial lines, planes cannot fly
, submarines can sink but cannot surface, debt shoot up to RM$1 trillion, financial reserves plummet, its sovereign fund and reserve only a fraction to cover the huge debt, "kopi lui" culture, privilege to one race etc.

(3) Thus old hat jealousy and hatred for us is displayed everywhere in him.
We need to be united and stay vigilant to guard against this old hat - who will periodically spew venom - especially this 1 year or 2 in his twilight year.

(4) However, as we brace ourselves to respond to any moves the old hat to harm us ---- our respond must be appropriate - stroke by stroke --- and must not be over excessive and should not misfire.

We must not quarrel with Malaysians as a whole or their young Ministers who have expressed desire to have mutual benefits with us in the future when the old hat is no longer around.

While the old hat is evil - we must guard against his every move that harm our interest --- we must not over-react that make cooperation with their new younger Ministers and the Malaysians as a whole not possible.

Having a good neighbor is better than having a troubling neighbor.

Most important, Singaporeans must unite as a whole and work behind our Government - who to date has handle the issues with restraint, measured and with Wisdom.

We have plenty of resources, time - on our sides.
We have law and righteousness - on our sides.

If we stay united and respond calmly and constructively - we will finally prevail.

Paladin Nicholas Lawrence Back than is back when? Mahathir was not a PM when Singapore got separated. We cut the relationship of Malaysia although it looked liked they wanted separation. After having read Dr Goh Keng Swee's transcript in the National achives.
Tunku Abdul Rahman had to separate Singapore at the time Not Mahathir. And its Dr Mahathir as he practice medicine.

Singapore leadership looks at long term relationship with Malaysia beyond their current hostile leaders. We also seek win win relationship and we know it is never good to see Malaysia fail.
However the current three quarter tank petrol ruling is against the spirit of neigbourliness. Charging VEP for Malaysia cars coming into Singapore at such high premium bore ill will and hatred from Malaysian. TIck for tag reciprocal vehicle charges at the causeway definitely show a mini war between neighours.
If SIngapore leaders want to mend relationship with Malaysia, just remove the three quarter petrol rule and VEP charges as a good gesture of a friendly neightbour. Then build a win win bridge with Malaysia at the causeway and allow ships to pass through to their ports. Stop being calculative and start being friendly with our neighbours and give them a helping hand.

3/4 tank rule is one sided, and against free trade spirit and I support your point. VEP is different, it is so we can be fair to local who has to pay COE. Even at this rate, it is cheaper for Malaysian driving a MYS big car over getting a local car in SGP

John, I do not see how removing the 3/4 tank or VEP will help to improve the relationship between 2 countries. The (toll charges') rule for such implementation is mutually agreed. i.e. if Malaysia scrap their toll rule, Singapore will likely do so as well. Evident of this is the recent removal of toll for the motorcyles category.

As for the 3/4 rule, it is like what Swee Meng Ling mentioned but I do not support both your ideas. It is a safeguard for Singapore's petroleum compaines who have invested millions and billions into the infrastructure etc to cater to the local community. Malaysia WILL NEVER implement this 3/4 rule simply because they know that no Malaysians will buy petrol or diesel in Singapore given it is much cheaper at home.

Tun Osman
I think you're confused. Malaysia do not welcome Singaporeans to top up petrol there. So why bother. For you n those who need to top up petrol at malaysia, it only shows something is really wrong with you n them financially. It only show that you need to take public transport instead of owning a car.

From this repeated act of humanity and goodwill, it's evident that all the while we're trying our very best to be good neighbour but yet to be appreciated by MY. As a matter of fact, S'pore had been supplying 16 mgd which iway after the agreed 5 mgd just for good neighbourhood spirit. Don't think Dr M or their federal government wiil appreciate but just hope Johor's state government & Johoreans can appreciate what we had done for them (only at 50 sen when our processing cost is $2.40).

K Tan Don - It is also business and law on our side that the old hat has NO RIGHT to renegotiate on the water agreement.

What we give to Johor is our goodwill on humanitarian ground. You have not even say thank you.
You are just as ungrateful like your old hat - - one that is despicable in the nature of humanity..

When we deal with your old hat - we make sure we go through every clause and every term - and will not relent an inch or a cent.

And I can assure you, your old hat will lose more than he gain - if your old hat continue to provoke us.

We account for more than RM$300 billion in Malaysia Economy (just in trade, investment, tourism - without mentioning others) - how much you want to lose?

RM$300 billion versus water, airspace, port limit, etc?
LikeReply1mEdited

If your old hat provoke us further - we can erase RM$52.74 billion from the old hat Economy - with no loss to us - in Stage 1A.

Just let you know first.

We can invest our RM$52.74 billion in other more friendly Countries.

Actually Singapore is lossing money in supplying treated water to Johore all this while. But one of the Malaysian Top Malay Poiticians told all Malaysians a few years ago that Malaysia sold Singaore raw freh water at only 15 sen and we Singapore was making a very good profit in supplying treated water to Malaysia at a profit (which is not true). This top Malay Poitician even luanched a booket about what he claimed about the supply of treated water. (He was aware that Singapore was loosing money; he used this 'lie' to acheive his political ends.)

I still remember who this "very cunning Malay Top Poiltician is. I do not want to smear 'cow dung' on his face, Those who can remember this dispute, you can name him if you wish. Thanks.

The below is actual cost from official source :-
(1) Cost of rain water to Malaysia = RM 0 sen
(2) Malaysia charges Singapore for rain water = RM 3 sen
(3) Singapore cost of treating water = RM$2.40 sen (per 1000 gallons).
(4) Singapore charge Malaysia only = RM$0.50 sen (per 1000 gallons).
(5) Malaysia sells the water to Malaysia consumers = RM$3.60 sen (per 1000 gallons).
(6) Singapore directly subsidises to Malaysia = RM$1.90 sen (per 1000 gallons).

Malaysia does nothing and make = RM$3.10 sen (per 1000 gallons).
