While Singapore's security agencies have the capability to compel intruding Malaysian government vessels to leave, they have been ordered for the time being to "exercise restraint and avoid escalating tensions" with its northern neighbour, Singapore Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said on Tuesday (Jan 15).

But Dr Ng welcomed assurances by the Malaysian government that they would take measures to de-escalate the tensions in Tuas and expressed hope that all Malaysian agencies will abide by this stated policy.
"Despite our disagreements, both sides want to resolve differences through discussions and peaceful means," he said.
---

I concur with our Government actions - measured, restraints, appropriate - while letting discussions to proceed and resolution through peaceful means.

Our security forces are capable and have all the means to dispel the intruding vessels - but let the discussion through peaceful means take precedent.

And should only used force as a last resort.

(1) If their pedoman buoy ship is unarmed - we can storm their ships and arrest their crews.

(2) However there is a possibility that their crew may have personal arms or rifles - where storming their ships is not possible without a fire fight - then sinking their ships with missiles or torpedo will be the only option.
This means 22 of their crews will perish.

(3) Their armed ship guarding the pedoman is armed with automatic cannon - which is an anti-ship and short-range anti-aircraft cannon plus GPMG.
The only way to dispel this ship - is firing missiles or torpedo from outside its firing range.
This means all their crews will also perish.

Thus using force to dispel them should be the last resort - because it could involve using lethal force.

What the orang tua want is money.
He is sending his men here to be sacrificed - to invoke nationalism to prop up his dwindling support.

If we sink their ships - we will fall into his trap.

But if we hurt his finances - he will sink faster.

So we must be smart - to hurt him where he feel the most pain --- ie. his pocket.

The most effective "softpower" is :-
(1) Reducing tourism receipt -- because there is big loss to Malaysia economy - and we will not suffer any loss.

Instead of spending money in Malaysia - we spend money in Singapore and to other Countries who are friendly with us.

In total, we can induce pain in dollar terms = S$16.6 billion or RM$50 billion a year.

(2) The 2nd in line softpower is - trade.
By reducing purchases of some agricultural products like eggs, poultry, fishes, shrimps etc -- we can buy from other suppliers from other Countries - 129 Countries.

Potentially we can induce pain in dollar terms = RM$2 billion.

(3) The 3rd in line is reducing or pull back some investment - to the tune of US$26 billion or RM$109.92 billion committed into Malaysia.

The reduction in investment will burn the GDP of their Economy and reduce jobs in Malaysia.

Johor’s chief minister Osman Saipan denied a car ride with Johor Sultan and PM Mahathir after he intruded into Singapore waters.

Following the meeting, Sultan Ibrahim personally drove the prime minister to Senai International Airport in a first-generation Proton Saga that the latter had presented to the Sultan’s father back in 1985.

Osman can be seen opening the left passenger door and tried to enter before he was stopped by a military aide de camp of Sultan Ibrahim, The Star reported.

An anonymous official source revealed to The Straits Times that Osman’s vessel visit was not sanctioned by Malaysia’s federal government. “He was told not to do it, yet he went ahead anyway,” ST quoted the source.

Until and unless we have exhausted all peaceful means - only then our last resort is to use force.

But as all other peaceful means are still in place - we can afford to stay calm.

Good analysed and wise.

Those who criticised Singapore stayed patience and refrained are less understanding the seriousness consequences.
Even one single gun bullet shot at either side missed targets will escalating the situation may led to confrontation.

To be understand this intrusion game, is to understand the enemy mastermind plan.
Then strike...

I am a little worried this government of us is not up to task to handle the Malaysian government. We are restraining and restraining and restraining. Probably just restrain until the day SIngapore is being occupied. Very worrisome.

We can clearly see the distinct difference in nature or characters between the medical doctors (turned politicians) from both sides of the causeway. We're fortunate to have our DM in Dr Ng & FM in Dr Vivian who always show patient, kindness, humanity, compassion, restraint from rash acts and not to hurt others unnecessarily that reflect the right characters / behaviours of a medical doctor / surgeon, Both possess the right ethic / moral principles to "inject the right medicine' to cure patient's sickness. In contrast, the PM on the other side of the causeway, also a medical doctor seems to always "inject poison" heartlessly into others or their ordinary people to score political points for his own personal agenda . He also like to instill his "poisonous legacy" into his upcoming successors so that it can be followed continuously. What a drastic difference in character of medical doctors from both sides of the causeway and that's why even their ministers & state rulers come to seek medical treatment in S'pore.

If Lee Kuan Yew is still alive and leading Singapore, surely all intruders will be escort out of our country by our Singapore Air Force or captured and retained by our security forces.
He will tell our neigbhour, "See you in United Ntaion."
We are presently displaying weakness and many other countries are watching if they can also bully us.

The usual technique, wait and wait. Finally nothing can be done. If LKY is still around, such thing won't happened. Their Dr. M knew, Singapore government will not do anything drastic to Malaysia. They had tried many attacks toward Singapore. Water issue, the speed train and now our port. So far what action did our PM Lee did. Nothing, quite like a mouse. Our government good with taxing and punish our local Singaporean. And recruiting FT to take over our jobs, housing, public transport and medical facilities. When we reached retirement age. We are either lost of job, or on yearly contract. Which we do not entitle all the incentives. Bonuses and pay increments. PM Lee is over the retirement age too. But he still getting his big fat salary and bonuses. PAP should put him on yearly contract basis too. If not he need to step down.

Time for both sides to blank out news on the disputes, and go resolve behind closed doors. The more the disputes get aired in public, the lesser the chance for an amicable resolution. Perhaps a Summit in Brunei, for both PMs to work things out.

"Tensions and real risks increased during this incident," said Dr Ng, adding that Singapore security agencies had detected "early" the movement of Mr Osman's entourage, which sharply increased the number of Malaysian vessels in Singapore waters from two to five.

"Our Police Coast Guard and Republic of Singapore Navy vessels responded promptly to this provocation, as they had to. As a result, the total number of vessels in the area more than doubled," said Dr Ng.

Don’t really understand what he means by the above statement! Does he mean that as a result of our prompt response to the provocation, the number of Malaysian vessels have increased from two to five? If that is the meaning, it means they see you no up!
