A good move for our SAF to buy a few F35 - probably F35Bs for evaluation that will be suitable for short runway and vertical landing - due to our short of runways.

The current environment require us to have the stealth F35s to give us a cutting edge over our adversary who are bent on unfriendly provocation.

A strong Armed Forces will give us bigger and stronger bargaining chips in any negotiation.

And in the event of any last resort - strong Armed Forces will give us a decisive Victory.

用李 -
(1) It work very well within our limited airspace.
(2) It can take off anywhere and can land anywhere with less than 250 meters runway with open field.
(3) It cannot be detected by radar - can operate in stealth and cannot be targeted by air defense missiles or other fighter missiles.
(4) It has very good sensors that can collect information not done before - and provide a complete pictures of the battlefield it operates in.
(5) It can fire beyond visual.

This will give us a very good competitive advantage if we need to engage our adversary in any hostility situation.

Ricky Lim it can be detected by radar. Just that it will need longer time
Reply16m
Ricky Lim
Benjamin Chong - It is a blip on the radar and it will go on and off - not trackable by radar to shoot a missile - and it need a complex range of different radar to detect it - only possible by Russian or China engineers.

So far not useful in a battle or war situation.

U think our weakness is in lack of stealthiness? In mounting offensive? Nope.

In terms of hardware, our air superiority in this region is already a given with or without the F35. Hardware is the last thing on our priority list. I see this as an exchange of benefits, a deal.. with returns not in terms of stealthiness / offensive capabilities, but of protection, allegience and concessions.

Our SAF always plan well in advance :-
(1) There is a planned methodology of procurement.
(2) Political environmental landscape
(3) Upgrade, maintenance vis-a-vis new buy
(4) Competitive acquisition to maintain our competitve edge.
(5) Budget allocation to defense
(6) Threat profile vis-a-vis threat analysis

(7) New buy seamless integration into a well-knitted fighting force
-- to ensure our Nation is safe and secure - to deter any ill intended aggressor(s).

In the event as last resort where all diplomacy fail - to deliver a decisive Victory.

Matteo Fox Nicco - 5 decades ago, our adversay say as a small Country - we cannot survive as a Nation.

But we not only survive but prosper and thrive and has reached a developed Nation.

And evidently you have no idea of military strategy that a small Nation cannot defend itself. Eg. Israel, Switzerland.

Just look at some small Nation who are strong military - untouchable by other bigger Nations.

If you don't serve National Service and think we cannot defend ourselves - then you should give up your permanent residency or Citizenship - so that we can give it to someone who are loyal and williing to defend this Country.

Read this :- "Mahathir said that Singapore “may be small”, but it was more powerful than Malaysia. He said that he did not see war as “a means to settle conflicts”.
He said that he’d rather sit down to negotiate, even though there may be no result, than go to war."

Good and timely move to show that we're always way ahead with our defence planning. This also shows that S'pore can be trusted and have many friends all over the world (except the nearest northern neighbour) for all the hamane and good deeds we've done so far. Even our air force and navy are also well recognised in using our advance aircraft and naval ships to render assistance during natural disasters and not as a threat to others. This is our pride.

Cheng Boon Huat - Singapore has the most stringent fiscal discipline.

We spend within our means, save by ploughing back at least 50% of earning from our returns on investment from our Sovereign Fund and we ensure we maintain budget surplus year after year.

Defense spending is not spending spree.

Every Ministry plan their budget with sustainable percentage of GDP - based on our Economic Earning.

We don't spend foolishly and when there is a need to spend to ensure the Country is save, secure, invest in long term earnings - we will do it.

Investing in F35 - is 10 years down the road where F16s will have outlive beyond economical maintenance - while at the same time, our SAF maintain our competitive edge and a strong deterrent against any adversary who have ill-intent against us.

Singapore investment and procurement is based on a rigorous set of procurement methodology - and not based on impulse buying.

Look at what our Government has done all this year for Singapore - and we should trust our shrewd and wise Government - that have ensure Singapore continue to survive, thrive and prosper.

Yes. Security should come FIRST. Especially for small country like us. If you read our history and open your eyes and look at our surroundings, you will understand why security is IMPORTANT to us. On top of that, the current dispute with Malaysia on water, air space and intrusion on our waters near our future port also remind us about the importance of self defence - security.

From a purely fifth generation fighter jets list of choices, there simply isn't any other viable candidate... Neither the Chinese J-20 nor the Russian Pak/FA would easily integrate with our existing F15, F-16s over the next decade plus until we retire those current fighters completely well into the 2030s. The F35 had already been combat tested by Isreal's Air Force, while the Russian jet is languishing in development stage due to lack of funds, and the Chinese J 20 is only now beginning deployment.

Wrong. Fxxking comes first. W/o fxxking, where got future soldiers to maintain security. Save the billions, pass on to peasants, who can then go home earlier to fxxk. Our hardware is ranked top in the region alr. Our TFR is ranked the lowest in the world. 😂

SGP has to buy US fighter jets (not Russians) and with all the other technical services and support facilities already in Singapore for this type of fighter jets, we cannot possibly go for European ones either.

Bawihtei Bawihtei - when we deal with an adversary - we don't act rashly by using force at the 1st outset of adversity - when we have an arsenal of many means to deal with our adversary.

We have
international laws, financial means, we have economic means and other means which will be more effective - not react to what your adversary want you to react that fall straight into his trap.

If you do not have all the information, channel and various means of dealing with the adversary - leave it to the Government as you have none the wiser.

The Government are responsible for the outcome of this confrontation and are responsible for the long term well being of the people. When there is a need to act, the Government will act.
When the Government withheld taking actions - that means, other means are working and using force will jeopardise what is currently in process.

Not you. Blowing them off is easy - but have you consider the long-term hostility when we have not exhausted all other options?

When they infringe our sovereignty - we punish them economically and financially when they felt the most pain now.
Blow them off will invite hostility - and what follow will be bloody skirmishes - though we will win at the end --- but when other options are working - why use this unwelcome measure - when we are not at our last resort?

They are gangster - we are not.
So do you want to act like a gangster just like them?

Look at the state of their Economy, their Financial difficulties, their strain social compact, racial and religious tension etc --- all these are signs of governing with gangsterism as compare to how we govern our Country.

Use brain - not your muscle - when it is not the last resort.

Gangster want you to fight with him - and achieve what he set out to achieve.
We use brain to hit him where he feel most hurt - that is his pocket - and not go into brawl with him on the street which he is craving. Only stupid people do that and succumb to provocation.
