he noted that the country has a five-year election cycle, so the authorities need to make sure that whatever project it commits to will continue to be carried out and honoured by the next Government that comes to power.
For instance, Mr Heng said there was an electricity project where, after the electricity was running, the country said the private company was making too much money and tariffs should be changed.
"The investor told me: 'I'll never invest in this country anymore'," he said. "So getting proper legal dispute settlement is very important."
--

Investors will not invest in a Country - who flip flop on its policies and fail to honor any contracts or international agreements signed - whether by previous government or incumbent government.

This show the lack of integrity and failure to respect International law.

This will bring about economic difficulties and financial difficulties to a Country that fail to honor contracts and International Agreements.

The Finance Minister, who has been earmarked to succeed Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, had earlier in the panel session shared his thoughts on how economies need to restructure to feel the full benefits of free trade.

ITM (Industry Transformatiom Map) can indeed solve the income inequality, job problem arising from disruptive tech to transform business and train workers that will avoid the problem caused by Globalisation and Free Trade.

It is an antidote to the currect economic system face by the whole World.

Don't put the cart in front of the cow. Belt and road is a trade route, if the China U.S. Trade War continues, the trades will come to a halt, why do we still need the trade route? The world leaders are keeping low profile when talk about the trade war because everyone knew that U.S. Is the main culprit but few dare to speak up against the U.S.. None dares to tell Canada or U.S. to release Miss Ment of Huawei and the real assessment of security risks of Huawei 5G equipment. All are waiting to see the bully hitting down China and pushing the trade war to its limit, and at the end everyone will suffer. 明哲保身却变成了缩头乌龟。

Finance Minister Heng...gave a solid talk at Davos ...on how to grow the economy by developing infrastructures that are essential to improve the life of the people.

He noted that poor developing countries face problems in getting money to finance infrastructure developments.
He suggested that they could get loans from the World Bank or from AIIB bank which is linked to the B & R initiative offered by China.

However, leaders who seek loans must do their due deligence...to ensure the projects are economically viable....it yields commercial returns,..most importantly it benefits the people.. Also, the projects are properly structured, ..with proper contracts...and dispute settlement mechanism.

FM Heng has demonstrated... he know the importance of infrastructures which is absolutely essential for economic growth and prosperity.. he knows how to implement project successfully...to grow the economy...to benifit the people.

In contrast, Dr M has demonstrated that for political reason ...he will stop ALL Belt and Road projects...joining the USA... to stop the rise of China..even if it meant ...the poor people in rural Malaysia are denied a better life. Dr M is a bad leader for the poor Malaysians.

One leader work for the economic growth (to imporve the life of the people) ...the other work for self-interest ...over national interests.

This difference in leadership qualities between Singapore and Malaysia... explain why Singapore is far ahead of Malaysia.

Abdul Hameed It does has an effect...imagine Malaysian durians would be able to reach so many countries / places along the trade routes and eventually to that huge market in China. Isn't that is what Dr.M is dreaming of and even able to get some durian deal when he last visited China? But then, he chosen not to participate...hmm.

we must all look to history - within our time we fave to thank the French for the Canals, the British for the trade routes, that made little fishing villages into valuable ports like HK, S'pore, Colombo, Aden...etc and now the Belt & Road of the Chinese, why knock it ???

European colonisation of Asia may have contributed in some ways.. the set up of mainly basic infrastructure and basic systems of governance but its people as a whole were never really better off under the Europeans. And when the Europeans left, they took with them alot of things that did not belong to them.

This BRI, no matter how it is described, is simply a projection of China's inflience and intention for global dominance. It is not much different from that of how European powers seeked to expand their global empire in the 19th and 20th century and take everything only for their benefit. See More

All roads lead to China?

The PLA is the world's largest military force and constitutes the second largest defence budget in the world. It is one of the fastest modernising military power in the world and has been termed as a potential military superpower, with significant regional defense and rising global power projection capabilities.

The PLA could just march overl the neighbouring countries. Please take note?

Marching over was in ancient warfare. Modern-day warfare is by superior air force, missiles, aircraft carrier and advanced electronic interference. Belt and road is for trade but it is now dead as the sugar daddy has become dead broke because of the trade war. 财神爷都成了穷光蛋,还有谁来烧钱呢?别发白日梦了。

黄柏安 This is call 引狼入室. They learnt from history. Missiles, aircraft carrier will first be deployed but once PLA is mobilized victory will be secured for sure.
