Malaysia masters degree holder earned a real salary of RM2,707 in 2018.

Malaysia unemployment rate = 3.3%

An average taxi driver per month = S$2,928 per month or RM$8,785.75 is higher than Median monthly household income for Malaysians = RM5,228.

So some Singaporeans are complaining Singapore not good enough?

I think your calculation is off. Those that you stated cant be a week's grocery. How can 4 bucks of spare rips last 7 days. And how can a family if 4 drink just 1 bottle of softdrink be shared for 7 days.

Prolly your shopping list is merely for a family of 2.

Its known that transport alone is $50 a week or $200 a month for adults. How can groceries only cost $200 a month?

Clifton Foo -
I just pick one of the bill as sample for the unit price of the few items - and provide the real money spend - it is not a weekly bill - as i have thrown it away.

The weekly bill don't exceed $50 - and provide 2 full meal for 5 days. And it won't exceed $200 a month for the whole family (not 2 person definitely).

Weekend outside food. (not included in the calculation). (if yes, include $30 added to $200 will be enough for 4 meals).

Transport not included in the calculation. (just walk across with trolley - no need transport)

When is the PAP govt going to offer an affordable supermarket to the lower-income group in Singapore? What say you, Fairprice?

Ntuc already very cheap.

Fresh milk only $5.95
100g prawns only $9.00
Bottled soft drinks only $2.95

1 weekly trip to ntuc only cost 180.00. A month of groceries only cost under $800.00

Dont we all earn at least 7k per household? Singapore is listed as the most expensive city by expats for the last decade and still is.

Cik Salimsg Ibrahim :
Fairprice is doing a very good job in maintaining affordable prices on various provision.
In 1970's when inflation kept climbing, only NTUC co-operative (as known before Fairprice) maintain fairprices for the working class.
"Welcome" is the name of the supermarket, then.
I bought a share at $50/- per share then, and now is collecting dividends.
Thanks to NTUC Co-operative.

So, Salimsg Ibrahim, what say you???

That what LKY started NTUC 1st outlet in TPY in the 70's.
One must understand Singapore has no resources but human. If we had very large land yet basic food is expensive then it is questionable?

Clifton Foo wao....u had a good life indeed. Having fresh milk as drink. Having seafood for protein. Drinking addition drink that is harmful to your health.

U had waste much of your earning in two drinks & one of it is useless to human health. A change in your spending u will lead a affordable life.

用李 Then, the exchange rate was to their advantage.
We must not go over to shop at the Sultan's supermarket.
We must support him so that the products will be cheaper
finally, to the benefit of us too.

Can check with why NTUC fairprice was set up initially by LKY.
Many has large land to produce basic need the country needed. It is sad for the citizens to had come to this sorry state!

Shouldn't stop foreigners from shopping there. But can work out a way so that only Malaysians can enjoy the discount. And bigger discounts for needy families. Some form of identification source perhaps? Like in Sg, there's NTUC membership cards and CHAS cards for needy families. Stopping foreigners would only curb the profit. The profit can be used to subsidised the needy in the long run. Better still if the supermarket is nearer to needy families residential area so they don't have to waste much on transport.
