IS is wiring up the buildings with booby traps and bombs, holed up in the building waiting for the Iraqi troop to retake it.

Whether rifle firing, mortar shell, arty shell, tank shell, air-raid - will cause the whole building to collapse while clearing the IS in the building.

There are 2 ways to defeat the IS with such defense :-
(1) Quick win - will be to bombard the buildings - whether mortar shell, arty shell, tank shell or air-raid - infrastructure damages will be huge and civilians will not be able to live in it. Redevelopment cost will be high.

(2) Just surround the city centre - for weeks or even months - until IS surrender - as they run out of food, water, ammo, good and service supply. There is still a need to clear the myriad of booby traps and bombs even when the IS surrender - that will pose threat to human - army or civilians.

War is never an easy choice - an sufferings and pains is always the consequences.
