I think you don't understand economics and the circular flow of income - to boost economic growth - based on your comments.

With Trump launching a global trade war - causing a worldwide dislocation of global trade - economic growth through trade is hit badly - and Singapore economic growth is also hit - because our trade is 3 times the size of our Economy GDP.

Another way to boost economic growth (since trade is hit) - is through private investment and support infrastructure development as well as public spending on infrastructure development - where both are variables of circular flow of income that boost economic growth (since trade variables are now hit).

So comment wisely - only if you understand economic fundamental.

In retrospect, Singapore is very lucky to have wise and visionary Government leaders, ministers and civil service ---- who are able to solve critical, emergency short term and long terms problems such as global threat, regional threat, sudden changes in economic climate or political climate - and turn it into opportunities - and ride out the threat and crisis --- to ensure that Singapore continue to prosper and do well.

How does infrastructure development boost economic growth :-
(1) Finance borrowing (usually very huge amount) to build roads, ports, power energy, water supply etc - hardware and software from banks. Even a 3% interest rate --- will be very substantial earnings from banks. So financial sector will be boosted and contribute to the economy GDP.
(2) Construction, civil engineering, power supply, water supply etc sectors will be vibrant and this will boost economic activities - and will contribute substantially to economic growth - boosting jobs, supply of steel, building materials etc.
(3) Indirectly, the infrastructure development will also boost export and import of those necessary materials for construction.
(4) Once the infrastructure are developed, consumer can trade, do business, commit investment - due to access provided by the infrastructure and further boost Economic growth.

So when trade (export and import) is hit --- isn't private spendings and public spendings are required to compensate for the lost in trade to maintain Economic Growth?

So $1 injected into the Economy for infrastructure development - will spin off through multiplier effect and produce say $10 of Economic activities and economic growth.

This is known as Circular Flow of Income through multiplier effect.

Lucas Lim Hk - evidently you have no experience or directly involved in many joint mega-projects in the infrastructure development of eco-city and industrial parks and other infrastructure development with many Countries all over the World undertaken by us and partner Countries.

I leave it to you as you think it is - and do not intend to explain or elaborate further.

Evidently your comments here are not reflecting realtiy.

thought u gg to refute me point by point on my reply...only to digress further in avoidance of the things I mentioned. its worrying that if u r a govlinked coy executive is so poor at argument how to negotiate w wolves n tigers of other countries? no experience in this type of thing at all...heard we almost lost our shirt in the famous suzhou ind park, you must have gain alot experience from that. Oversea projects that make $$ ones, u name it and how much in $$ terms it benefited SG u indicate mah. think only those executives employed in the planning n project mgmt lor.
If even you who is close to such projects find it hard to provide concrete data of benefits for SG,
dnt think even MOF had ever publish any data of oversea project benefits, much less to say a person who is evidently shying away from reality.

Lucas Lim Hk - you only talk about Suzhou where China is just starting to open up and still need time and space to work together. And we are doing very well now in Suzhou in case you don't know.

At the same time, i think you are not aware of how many mega cities we have since embarked worldwide as partnership with many Countries reaping mutual benefits.

Singapore has reached maturity and have fully developed the city state, the only mega infrastructure development is outside Singapore - and we have done a pretty good jobs securing worldwide mega infrastructure projects worldwide plus the "Subsequent huge Economic benefits arising from the joint projects" - that benefit both partnering Countries and Singapore.

Else why you think why the World hold Singapore with high regards and want to work with Singapore - is because we work with many Countries all over the World. (And you all just sit behind your keyboard and anyhow shoot the Government - without knowing so many good works are done quietly behind for the good of Singapore - that is of global significance).

Enough say
and will not rebutt you point by point (as there is no liberties to leak sensitive info. as it involve partnering Countries) --- but those comments you make obviously does not reflect the reality.

No more further responses to you on this topic - as obviously you talk without actual facts.

Lucas Lim Hk - no need to feed your curiousity.
Those who are directly involved know is good enough.
70% who trust the Government is good enough.

Won't respond to you anymore. You can continue to blow hot and cold .......
