He expressed the hope that progress could be made on existing areas of cooperation like trade. For example, he hoped that the next implementation review of the Korea-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (KSFTA) can be held soon.
“It will show the international community that our countries are committed to free and open trade,” he said.
During the visit, Mr Lee and Mr Moon also witnessed the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding covering the environment, free trade, smart grids, the fourth industrial revolution, small and medium enterprises, and investments.

With the ugly global trade tension rearing its head, upgrading of the Korea-Singapore FTA to cover new trade, business and investment areas will be a good cushion and mitigating factors to compensate for the loss in global trade.

Both Singapore and S Korea are mature Economies and meaningful cooperation can help to achieve mutually beneficial outcome.

He added that Singapore will continue to work with South Korea and the international community to achieve lasting peace and stability and the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

As for Korean Peninsula permanent peace --- it is imperative that Peace cannot be taken for granted and need to work on it.
Without Peace, Prosperity will not come.

To achieve complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula :-
(1) Constructive dialogue must be upheld.
(2) Reciprocal constructive actions - should be undertaken by both sides to de-conflict - the South and the North.
That is, One side take one right step to de-conflict, and the other side take another reciprocate one step to de-conflict.

Only through such step-by-step de-escalation resolution method - can both sides achieve eventual Permanent Peace.

Unilateral actions expected on one side to de-conflict totally, fully and completely before another side reciprocate - may not work.

(3) The South may need to take an active role - to bridge the de-conflict talk between US and the North.

Leaving US to talk directly to the North - may not work.
