As "foreign" economic advisers leave, a protectionist India returns

When Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took power in 2014, he leaned on three Indian academics who had predominantly worked in the United States to drive a liberal, globalised economic policy.

Lol, look who is talking!! China has been doing it for ages and if at all India is doinh it, it has yielded results. We just went past France and Britain is in close sight now.
Keep your armchair economic advisors to urselves. India is a much much bigger economy than Singapore and it is world's fastest growing as well. We dont need no gyan from someone like CNA at least.

Pooja Ghosh - Pse read the news carefully.
This article is written by (Reporting by Manoj Kumar, Editing by Raju Gopalakrishnan)
Source: Reuters

They are not Singaporeans and the source of the news is Reuters - not CNA.

Before you accused Singapore and CNA for the article, get your facts right first.

And if you know that you got it wrong ---- you should be graceful to apologise to Singapore and CNA.

Ricky Lim, i am amused. CNA is carrying an article and u r saying that they arent responsible for it. I work for an american company in India, but as per you, since I am not an American, I am not responsible for that compny's reputation. I am not sure u r convinced but this is a fact. Anything CNA carries or prints goes thru a due diligence process and they are totally responsible for it.

Pooja Ghosh - You don't understand that the source come from Reuters and CNA is publishing based on this source and the reporters are from Reuters?

You look at your first comment.
"Keep your armchair economic advisors to urselves. India is a much much bigger economy than Singapore and it is world's fastest growing as well. We dont need no gyan from someone like CNA at least."

You assume that Singapore reporters write it.

I am telling you it is not written by Singaporeans - it is by Reuters reporters who are not Singaporean nationals.

You still argue through your teeth.

If you realise you are wrong - admit it and apologise for it.
If not, it show alot of your characters - got it wrong but still stubbornly argue it through.

Pooja Ghosh - Read this "the original source of the article" - and be gracious - apologise if you are graceful to admit your mistake.

The reporters that write this are from UK Reuters - and the reporters are not Singaporeans.

Copy and paste the above title with Reuters in Google search or yahoo search --- you will find that the article is from UK Reuters. In fact, all foreign news source are from Reuters.

Do you get it now?

In case you don't understand how news agencies work :-
"Reuters had become "one of the world's major news agencies, supplying both text and images to newspapers, other news agencies, and radio and television broadcasters."[2] Also at that point, it directly or through national news agencies provided service "to most countries, reaching virtually all the world's leading newspapers and many thousands of smaller ones," according to Brittanica."

Almost every major news outlet in the world subscribed to Reuters as of 2014. Reuters operated in more than 200 cities in 94 countries in about 20 languages as of 2014.

Pooja Ghosh - I suggest you should apologise to Singapore and CNA.

Ricky Lim, may be you should learn something about journalism. CNA is carrying an article and are quoting Reuters. Lets say tomorrow they carry an article from some publication in Iran, which defends their nucleur programme. Do u think CNA will be responsible for that?
Moreover, just for the sake of discussion, even if I agree that CNA is not at fault, why should I apologize to Singaporeans? Just because I said that India is a much much bigger economy than Singapore? Well there is nothing wrong in this. Isnt it a hard fact?
Get over this sense of entitlement. There is nothing for you to brag about, especially in this case. CNA is known to carry anti India news and there is nothing new in this.

Pooja Ghosh - this show your naiveness, stubbornness and ignorance - a laughing stock.

I think i am done with you and will not waste any more time on you.

You should learn more about journalism with your Country before you comment.
You try to twist and turn your way out - just look at the 1st posting all the way to the end.

And it show alot about your character - not surprising because i have come across a similar character like you.

But I do have a couple of Indian nationals friends - who are more noble in character.

No more comments about you - and let other readers form judgement based on all the postings here.

Ricky Lim, and so what if an agency operations all over the world. If an article is biased or wrong, it is just that. Anyone who reproduces it condones it and cannot hide behind another person's work.

Vic Torrent - I think you don't understand the whole context of the argument with the lady above and your comments is out of context.

This lady accuse CNA reporters of writing this article on India politics.

I produce proof that :-
(1) Her accusation is wrong. It is not written by CNA Singapore reporters nor published by CNA - a Singapore media.
(2) The article is written by UK Reuters and their reporters of Indian origin.
(3) After pointing this mistake to her - she refused to acknowledge her mistake - and twist and turn to put the blame on CNA.

Having say so. many Countries do not have foreign correspondents or news reporters in every foreign Countries.

Reuters is one of the media agency that is a reputable international media agency (with worldwide network of news correspondents) which provide news coverage and work with many Countries in the World - by providing news coverage to the local media agencies in Countries which has no coverage in some foreign Countries.

In other words, many Countries' media agencies depend on Reuters to feed them with foreign news - and i believe India media agencies also work with Reuters for some foreign news.

Having say so, by quoting new sources from Reuters in CNA reports - does not means that we fully agreed with what is written in the news article - except that it provide readers with another point of perspective.

Singapore is an open society - and we publish different views with different perspective from diverse news source.

Singapore readers are educated and matured enough to form our own judgement - as the diverse viewpoints prevent us from falling into the crack of groupthinks --- especially in the context of economic policies, social policies and political development.

We read widely on news of regional, political, social economic development in this region and the globe - as we have interconnected economic links worldwide - and form our own judgement.

There is nothing wrong if CNA carried news source - from diverse foreign news media - as long as we quote the new sources.

This is an international practice in journalism worldwide.

Both you and the lady above are not happy about how this new article are written - and direct the anger on CNA and Singapore because it appear in the CNA online news and mistaken that CNA and CNA reporters wrote it.

This is despite the fact that this new articles are written by Indian reporters working with UK Reuters.

Both of you should direct your unhappiness at Reuters and not CNA - and worst blame it on Singapore.

Even though CNA publish Reuters news online (due to arrangement with Reuters to publish foreign news in which we do not have coverage) - as long as CNA quote the new sources as Reuters - which is an acceptable international journalism practice.

This does not means that we fully agreed with article published - as we as readers take note of the new source.

Singapore leaders have very close relationship with India PM Modi - and we have just concluded Singapore-India FTA.

Naturally Singaporeans are interested in news coming out from India - and CNA as a local news media will naturally gather news from diverse news source - so that educated Singaporeans can have diverse news and information on the development in India.

So I don't see why the unhappiness of both of you directed at CNA and Singapore.

Ricky Lim happy to know that u understand that we arent happy with the news.
Will be happier if you stop playing the victim card and accept that CNA is responsible for every article that they carry. As the gentleman above has mentioned, they cannot publish crap and hide behind other publications. Why dont they carry everything that Reuters publish?
Or do u think that CNA does not have any correspondents in India?
We have many keyboard warriors like you, who start playing victim, the moment they stop making sense in any disscusion. Peace.

Totally in agreement. These copy book worms wouldnt apply their brains in getting the country out of those colonial arrangements.
Look what happened after they left. India muscled past her way above France and will soon overtake Germany to be the 4th largest economy in the world.

Shubham Setu -
(1) Firstly, I have no quarrel with India.
In fact, I have many Indian friends from India and they are of good character, hard working, humble and the best character of all - reasonable.

(2) I cannot understand why some people cannot understand how the World operate - despite explaininng how the World work with one another (such as this particular saga of journalism - where local media agencies has wide network with other international media agencies that share news source where they have coverage) - which is an international practice.

(3) No Countries in the World, no matter how strong - need to be open-minded and accept diverse news source to prevent groupthink.
For eg. you may like to be alerted to the news reported by Times of India :-
Why more Indian millionaires are ditching Indian citizenship.

Read more at:
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articl.../63830380.cms...

(4) Many Commonwealth Countries have per capita income exceeding India.
Out of 200 countries, India rank 126 in wealth.

(5) If India claim that its have more population, China has similar large population but its per capita income is more than double that of India.

(6) I hate so say all the above - as we have all the while have been friendly with India and many Indian friends.
But the message that i am delivering here is that --- one need not be defensive when we negative report and cried spill blood.

We must be open minded to read both positive and negative news and viewpoints - as there are lessons we can pick up from there - learn, find solutions and do better.

If we come across negative reports that is factual - we accept it and learn from it to do better.

If we come across negative reports that is unjustifiable - than state the reasons and provide arguments and facts to support your claims.

Readers will form judgement based on what is written - and will rate whether the news is credible or not.

For eg. in this case :-
(1) Is nationalisation of banks works better - as compared to privatisation of banks.
--- Many Countries have gone through this process - and have considerable experience gain from the process.

If one is open-minded - one should look at the pros and cons of nationalisation versus privatisation --- on how it impact the Country, the businesses, the taxpayers and the People.

There are plenty of case studies that one can look into - from Asia to the West.

And then put forth your arguments, try it, learn from it, evolve as it goes.

This is a more constructive way of responding to a negative report - rather than letting emotion run, blaming, getting angry --- which are all negative attributes that does not contribute to constructive nation building.

Note :- Even Livemint (India media agency) needs to refer the news source from Credit Suisse Report that specialise in researching financial data all over the World.

Can India local media agencies work alone - without the needs to work with international media agencies for news sources such as Reuters, Credit Suisse, BBC etc?

The answer is no.

This is how media agencies tap the newsfeed and new sources all over the World to get World news.

If someone like to take issues on certain news feed --- go directly to the news source - and not the local media agencies that carry the international media news feeds.

This is how journalism works - where local media agencies maintain a network of international media agencies for World news.

That is why, this journalism saga ---- is really a "frog in the well" - who sees the World - the size of the well - and don't know how big the World really is.

Embarassing isn't it?
