COMMENT: Sports Hub’s false starts heading towards a nightmare

Wait a minute, looking at many who post and comments on this Sport Hub, it seems like public get the impression that taxpayer money is used to build this Sport Hub.

If I understand correctly, I thought it is oversea investors who forked out money to build this Sport Hub by projecting the number of events it can bring in to recover its investment after a period of years.

This business model is similar to RWS and Marina Sands (which of course both RWS and Marina Sands are making money).

Taxpayer money is not involved in all these 3 mega projects - if my understanding is correct.

This project is one of the 3 PPP (Public Private Partnership) mega projects - that are designed to attract foreign investors to build iconic building and new tourist attraction hub - such as MICE (meeting, business conference, exhibition, events and tourists) - with billion dollars investment that can be recouped within 10 - 25 years.

In retrospect with the World Economy slowing down, thought it is good to think along this line, to attract foreign investors on another course of mega projects to pump prime the Economy.

The only thing is what new themes will be good that will attract foreign investors to plough billions of dollars that will make money ????

Actually got a wild idea about similar mega projects.

Identify an island with tourist potential.

Attract foreign investors to build a cultural theme that can attract continuous stream of tourists annually.

Build artificial islands to join this island (like different space ships that join the mother space ship) like a star shape with different tourism themes :-

Eg :- (1) Investor to build immersive theme parks on one artificial island (eg. 10-20 km in size) to join this island. This particular theme park is a hi-tech for tourists to play with all type of hi-tech gadgets eg. drone, 3D virtual reality, live in space capsule like hotel etc

(2) Investor to build one artificial island (10 - 20 km) of spa, beach, water sports, skiing, barbeque, luxury boats, villa as hotel, etc.

(3) Investor to build integrated resort complex of shopping, in the 3rd artificial island (10 -20 km) etc

(4) investor to build another island of space - eg. living in spacecraft, walking on the moon, star war like theme park etc. or

etc.

Do you think this wild idea works?

Each individual island can let tourist stay for about 1 week to enjoy all the themes and then can go across another island to enjoy another theme.

This spaceship star hub - will be the largest man-made island of tourism attraction for Singapore - howdee ?????

Got another idea, 1 more island - can be used as film making island.

Tourist can register themselves to be actor and actress to act in some movies or serial....

This one sure make money - because tourists will like to be star ---- how da dee....

Ah, the main island will be accessible by :-

(1) a small airport - commercial plane can land, helicopter can land.

(2) ferry can land.

(3) all artificial islands can use MRT or driverless car or cycling or taxi from the main island?

Thought tourists stay in RWS and Marina Sands for a couple of days to 1 week.

eg. RWS have many types of hotels for different tourist market segment if i am not wrong.

Some hotels are premium for premium tourists.

Some hotels should be for the mass market.

  Unless can sing and do sport (play soccer and sing, play badminton and sing, play wrestling and sing, do gymnastic and sing). - then concert can book the sport hub to sport and sing.
