There is no reason for Singapore to hurt the economic and business interest - where Singapore has invested heavily in China.

Supporting US in military conflict with China - will mean Singapore is trying to burn our money away - and condemn our investment and business in China into waste.

Contrary, hosting US surveillance plane - is helping to safeguard peace - and try to pre-emptively prevent war, discourage war ---- and try to bridge any differences to prevent the outbreak of conflict and war.

China should be quietly please that Singapore is playing a stabilising factor - to ensure peace and be a bridge between US and China - to prevent the outbreak of war.

Moreover, US is also not eager to burn their money away - with so heavy investment, business and trade with China. US is also not keen to start a military conflict with China.

Advanced intelligence will provide advanced information - and pre-emptive diplomacy, dialogue and communication can be planned to prevent any outbreak of war.

This development augers trouble for Singapore. Now we have chosen side and trouble will come our way. Are we prepared to balance this development with invitation to the PLAN to based their Y8G anti-submarine aircraft in Singapore to be neutral? We Singaporeans would rather avoid getting ourselves into this situation. Wherever the US goes, war follows i.e. Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afganistan, Lebanon, etc.

I think you may have not understand the purpose of enhanced ties with US.

The primary target is ISIS terrorist groups - where US has upper hand and advanced intelligence on the group.

ISIS threat is very real - and closer tie on transnational terrorism, cyberterrorism, piracy group and terrorist groups in SE Asia - are the primary focus.

Of course development on the blickerings in South China Sea is also concern - because if there is outbreak of conflict along the sea lane - the entire sea channel for trade, business and travel will be crippled - that will impact the livelihood of Singapore not to mention the rest in Asia Pacific.

China will not be able to provide Singapore with information on the ISIS threat - in which US is privy to.

How is this enhance ties with US - means taking sides with US and play out China?
