The vehicles need to be maintained before it can go out for operation. Else the vehicle may stalled, track may derail, comms set will not work, weapons may stall, vehicle cannot do flotation in water and may sink.

This APC is not used by the US Marine Corp and was replaced by Halliburton Co. that produced the -BRADLEY- Infantry vehicles that is capable of knocking down MBT. These M113 A2 is solely designed for somewhat security operations like insurgency that is existing in this country not a major war.If those SAF 44 had been on board in this vehicles during their duty they are still alive today but they just walk because it was not yet available. An open target.

Just some correction, M113 is not designed only for insurgency, it is designed for conventional war operations.

M113 is used widely in the Vietnam war and served in many armies that operate alongside heavy armour tanks. It also see war action in Israel.

M113 will not only provide armour protection against troop, it also transport adequate amount of troops quickly into frontline, clearing obstacles that will normally border soft-skin transport vehicles.

As M113 usually operate alongside tanks, the firepower are awesome.

In addition M113 his high manoeuvrable as opposed to tanks - as M113 can cross rivers, swim in lakes unlike - unlike tanks which will be too heavy and is not amphibious.

In addition M113 can be airlifted. Tanks cannot be airlifted as they are too heavy.

Of course if M113 is used against insurgency - it will be very effective - because insurgents will be completely overwhelm by the armour, heavy machine gun firepower, mortar arty and cannons (if mounted on the M113).

When the M113 punch and penetrate into the terrorist groups camp, the infantry soldiers from M113 can quickly dismount and overwhelm the terrorist camps and thereafter hold ground.

If the terrorist run, M113 can chase them faster than they can run - because M113 can travel at speed exceeding 50 km per hour.

But of course Bradley is a more modern and improved version of APC over M113.

Saying M113 is not designed for conventional war is not correct because some armies have few thousands of them in armour operation and is very effective against infantry troops without armour protection.
