US air strikes in Afghan district under Taliban siege

Seems like the Afghan contingent in Helmand is too thinly spread, not enough heavy weapons and not well supplied by logistics.

Taliban can penetrate in those weak links and attack a weak defense force.

Since Taliban is coming from the South, stronger contingent and mechanized assets should be deployed in a concentric multi-layer fence approach facing south - to prevent Taliban from probing weak link and penetrate the defence.

Even if the first line of fence defense is break, the deeper layer fence can counter the breach and trap the Taliban.

Air strike should also be called in to strike the moment the first line of fence come under fire.

  • The multi-layer fence ring will :-

    (1) prevent Afghan troop from desertion - as the multi-layer will trap them.

    (2) logistic and supply will be better protected and better supply - with lesser risk for Taliban to attack the supply lines - as it should come from multiple routes.

    (3) Taliban will have to face layer of layer of attack - when attempting to breach the line and line of fence ring.

    (4) better support and backup - as the multi-ring fence can move up and down to support their forces when come under pressure.

    (5) easier to deploy mechanized assets for support - in each line of defence - and Taliban will have difficulty to penetrate mechanized fire.
Keep defending may sometimes not the best strategy.

Discover the Taliban base and troop concentration is essential - and calling for airstrike - persistently to deplete the base, the assets, the troop concentration ---- will derail the Taliban for planning sophisticated attacks on important ground such as Helmand.

Destroying the source of fund - the poppy field that fund the Taliban will be the quickest way to strangle Taliban source of finance and limit their abilities to finance their war operation.
