Singapore import our egg supply from Brazil, Malaysia, and the United States.
Though majority come from Malaysia.

However, we have started importing eggs from Thailand in 2017.

"The first shipment of 325,000 hen shell eggs from Thailand arrived in Singapore in April 2017."

If Malaysia stop exporting eggs ---- Singapore can ramp up imports of eggs from Thailand.

Also Singapore local producers - supply 26% of the eggs to Singapore market.

Opting for other alternatives can lessen the potential impact of any disruptions. Liquid egg and egg powder are alternatives that provide as much nutritional value as fresh shell eggs. They are fresh shell eggs processed into different forms.

If Singaporeans are not happy - and want to express your displeasure with the old man - there is a "soft measure" to punish him :-
"Singaporeans continue to make-up the bulk of tourist and international arrivals to Johor with 5.6 million visitors recorded in the first six months of this year.
She said the figure was followed by arrivals from Indonesia (690,998), China (386,778), Philippines (157,594), India (101,750), Japan (59,901), South Korea (62,474) and Thailand (47,758)."

---- If Singaporeans stop visiting Malaysia - then Malaysia will be poorer by S$16.6 billion RM$50 billion a year. Average Singaporeans who visit Johor spend S$3000 a year each.

But some people here say - Singaporeans are more pragmatic than patriotic woh.

So who to blame?

Go ahead eat all your eggs urselves.

"First Import of Thai Eggs

AVA and the industry are also keen to source for hen shell eggs from Thailand, which had never been exported to Singapore before. Following satisfactory documentary evaluation, site inspections by AVA, and laboratory results submitted by Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development, two layer farms were approved in March 2017 for export of table eggs to Singapore. The first shipment of 325,000 hen shell eggs from Thailand arrived in Singapore in April 2017."

Wei Foo Thailand is the 3rd largest producer in the region after Indo and MY, producing about 12 billions eggs a year, which can be easily ramped up to produce an additional 1.4b for the SG market. The 2 farms / single shipment of 325k eggs was a pilot run.. nowhere representative of attainable capacity if the need arises.

Don't worry even if Malaysia want to start Economic war.

We have plan and has taken care of this long time ago.

Malaysia will burn themselves very badly.

We have plenty of leverage against this old man - we will prevail and beat the daylight out of this old man.

This old man mindset still belong to the 60s and 70s - thinking that we are vulnerable and our strength still belong to that eras.

Ricky Lim cos now malaysia yayapaya, got big market china who willing to pay higher for everything from durian to malay asam paste, to tongkat ali.... so now malaysia dont need sg.... maybe turning to be true, like historians say it for small countries, sg will not last more than 100yrs..

Eddie Lim - China only want their maoshanwang durian - China produce their own vegetables, fruits, eggs etc - who want their produces other than Singapore and their own locals.

Their agri-sector sure kenna burn and hamtan good and proper.

We can don't eat their maoshanwang durian - and we won't die of hunger. We still can eat Thai and Philippines durian that we are getting.

This old man arcade already --- and yet he still don't know - and want to pick a fight with us.

This time we are going to teach him a good lesson.

But Singaporeans must support lah - people slap us in the right face - and yet we still want to visit them for food, shopping and recreation - then we are spineless by letting them slap our left face.

By the time they want to 're enter the market, they will find no more customers already.

Had been replaced by other sources and countries already.

Source from certain parts of Thailand, Indonesia, Vietname and other neighbouring countries.

Ricky Lim
Yes you are right. When they want to re-enter the market - they will lose the customers - because the customers will have anchor other suppliers in other Countries.
Their agriculture sector will be hurt badly - because the spending power of their locals are lower - and also they will not be able to earn export income.

Our AVA are constantly in the look out for alternative supplies to our food chain.

Now Thailand will be a good alternative source to replace the egg supply if Malaysia pull out.

As for other sources, it will take times for AVA to certify the food safety before we can import from them.

AVA is very stringent in the entire production and supply chain in food supply to ensure - our food supply are of high quality.

Ricky Lim with improvement in logistics and supply chain we can get the eggs supply from any where and may not be that overly expensive too. Such arrangement also make us less reliant on a single source of supply. Malaysian politicians are still living in the 80s
Reply47m
Ricky Lim
Eric Foo - yes agreed and this will work to our advantage.

For non-food products such as apparel, electrical equipments and others - it will work to our advantage.

But for food supply, AVA is very careful - and will want to cerify the whole production chain, vaccination, workers, farm, feed, packaging, transport etc end-to-end to ensure high quality and food safety.

For vegetables - eg. pesticides, nature of soil etc are also control and certified.

Now do Singaporeans know - why Mr LKY during the Pedra Branca crisis - can 能屈能伸 - where we can take a stronger stand - but did not?

Because there are many considerations we need to take into account (where water is the biggest obstacle not to mention food) - in dealing with this old hat.
---
But now the whole table is turn against this old hat --- because we have been planning this from umpteen decades ---- that we will not be held hostage by this old hat anymore.

We are not trying to pick a fight ---- but we must protect ourselves from being hurt by evil people. 害人之心不可有, 防人之心不可无。

Now does Singaporeans feel relief - that our Government has extraordinary foresight and vision to protect Singapore and Singaporeans from harm.
Breeke Lo
Ricky Lim are you asking about the foresight and vision of our past leaders or of the currrent/next administration? Very diff u know 😂
LikeReply43m
Ricky Lim
Breeke Lo - Do you know that all our current leaders are civil servants supporting Mr LKY and EM GCT government for many decades. There are alot of things you may not know and many Singaporeans may not know.

PM Lee HL - is very instrumental in Mr LKY and EM GCT Administration - in influencing and drafting many Government Policies.
DPM Teo CH - is an Admiral and subsequently become MOS during EM GCT time.
DPM Tharman - is a senior civil servant in MAS.
Min Heng SK - is the Principal Private Secretary of Mr LKY
Min Chan CS - is the Chief of Army who hold the highest rank in the Army
Min Ong YK - is a senior civil servant in MinCom.

not to mention many others.

These people do tremendous amount of groundwork during Mr LKY and EM GCT administration --- contributing alot to the past Government policies --- that now Singaporeans are enjoying the fruits.

All our current leaders - see through and contributed tremendously during Mr LKY and EM GCT times in the past Government Policies --- in case you don't know.

They are also involved in dealing with the old hat during Pedra Branca crisis - in case you don't know.

Ricky Lim Foresight and vision are usually attributed to the final decision maker. The people you listed are better described with adjectives like capable, dedicated, loyal, honest, or as some ppl might include, obedient (ie yes men).

U hv a typo there .. PM Lee HY 😮

Breeke Lo - You assume one person is a Superman who knows everything under the sun?

You may not know that a solid Administration with foresight and vision - is made up of teams, system and organisation of capable people - rubbing one another.

Eg. Mr LKY without Goh Keng Swee - will not be able to develop a superb Army, Manufacturing and Engineering industries.

Mr LKY without Hon Sui Sen - will not be able to be strong in Finance and develop a Financial Hub.

Mr LKY without the solid civil servant Philip Yeo - will not be able to build Trade as our stalwart.

Plus many others.

Ricky Lim agree that in LKY's era, of building everything from nothing, every minister is a leader in his own rights (and domain)... and you are right to say that LKY is no superman to make all the high level strategic decisions - there were just too many.

The question is, is this still the case today? Are there any high level strategic decisions that didn't have PM making the final decision of go or no go? I think you hv already subconsciously answered this qn when all 3 'stalwarts' you quoted are from our 1G years.

They can also stop veg., Lets see how long the farmers able to withstand without export. Singapore already make provision to import from elsewhere long ago.

With abundant natural resources and fertile soils, the Philippines has the potential to supply a bigger volume and wider variety of fruits and vegetables to Singapore.

Currently Philippines accounted for 57 percent and 13 percent of all the bananas and pineapples, respectively.

To experience first-hand the freshness of Filipino produce, AVA organised visits to various fruit and vegetable farms, cold store facilities, and a trading centre in the Baguio city. Discussions with the Governor of the Benguet Province, as well as key officials at the Department of Agriculture, were also held.

Mr Tay Khiam Back, Chairman of the Singapore Fruits and Vegetables Importers and Exporters Association, commented that he found the fruits from the Philippines very suitable for the Singapore market. With contacts made during the trip, Mr Tay, who is also Managing Director of Hupco Pte Ltd, imported his first consignment of Filipino pineapples in June 2013, and has been receiving good response from retailers.

Another delegate, Mr Alun Chow, Managing Director of 101 Fruits Pte Ltd, was also enthusiastic to import durians from the Philippines, in addition to traditional sources such as Malaysia and Thailand.

Tell the old man to try harder in their export market for their agriculture lah.

Let see their agriculture sector go bankrupt or not.

Try lah.

That's why we should not put our eggs in one basket, erh, supplier. Let Malaysia cause the egg farms to close by stopping them from coming into SG.

Economically they are also hurting themselves. Didn't they aware with the current logistics and supply chain we can always look for alternative source? Pity the poor chicken farmers.

"Hurting themselves" is an understatement. It's economic suicide. Singapore is Malaysia's biggest (by a large margin) customer under the Food export category. And we know what happens to a company when its BIGGEST customer buys from another company.

If Malaysia don't sell the eggs to Singapore, their farmers & whole sellers will suffer, all become rotten eggs, fruits, vegetables, etc also become rotten. In the end, their own people will suffer just like they kill their own budget airline, Firefly's business.
