It reiterated on Wednesday that cross-border airspace management is not incompatible with sovereignty.
“The nature of international civil aviation is such that flights have to traverse the airspace of different states. It is not uncommon for flight procedures to/from airports in one state, especially those near other states, to traverse the territories of neighbouring states,” MOT said.
“This does not entail a violation of the sovereignty of the states being overflown. The instrument flight procedures for some Malaysian airports also extend into the territories of neighbouring states.”
Under the current arrangement, management of the airspace over southern Johor is delegated to Singapore, meaning that Singapore provides air traffic control services in that airspace.
This arrangement was agreed upon in 1973 by Malaysia, Singapore and other regional states, and subsequently approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). A bilateral agreement was then signed between Malaysia and Singapore in 1974 to operationalise the agreement.

It is a signed agreement right?
The signed agreement give us the right. As long as one party don't agree to the change, it is still our right.
The signed agreement is binding according to International Law - if not happy - go to International Court to contest.

Singapore should stand firm in our position and will not give in.

Does the agreement have a expiry date?

Actually international law in this case will be the Chicago Convention, which states: “the contracting states recognize that every state has complete and exclusive sovereignity over the airspace above its territory”.

Mark Chen even if there is, Singapore will say "it is not in everyone's interest to hand back their airspace to them".

Mark Chen - The World flight control has already been determined - where many airport controls have many overlapping territorial border into neighboring Countries.

Highly unlikely Malaysia ground of sovereignty - has good ground.
Else the whole World air traffic control will be in chaos - if all Countries contest on this ground - and air safety become a big issue worldwide.

Also airspace control is usually done by a Country with airport - for safe takeoff and landing. It does not make sense for the neighbor country to do airspace control when they have no airport in the vicinity - as it has no visibility for safe takeoff and landing  in our Airports as a few minutes - we already go into their airspace - how to change hands - aircraft may lose control and crash.
And Singapore Airports are one of the busiest in the World - who in the right mind will let Malaysia handle all commercial flights takeoff and landing in such a busy airport - where safety is of the paramount.

That is why, let our Government handle this issue.
They can contest it in the International Courts - and we should stand our ground.

It very obvious that the old hat try to 无理取闹 - just like what he do in the past - with all his successors and with close neighbors - to divert attention from his internal politics.

This time we are much stronger and this old hat has very little leverage on us.

As long as Singaporeans stand united behind our Government - we will prevail over this old hat.

We are going through an "uncomfortable period" like in the past --- until this old hat leave the "political scene".

We are not against Malaysians - we are just standing up to this old hat 无理取闹.
