Lee Kuan Yew took ‘deep interest’ in China’s development, laid foundation for Sino-Singapore ties: PM Lee

2018 Singapore and China relationship

China and Singapore are two independent sovereign states, but the ties between the two countries have been traditionally unique. Chinese President Xi Jinping described the two countries as “close and special partners.”

So far, bilateral trade volume and personnel exchange visits between the two countries have increased more than 20 times. Nowadays, China is Singapore’s largest trading partner, while Singapore is China’s largest foreign investor. The two countries have already formed an inseparable economic and trade relations.

In the future, China and Singapore can continue to generate more and more win-win outcomes, by seeking common ground while shelving differences, and by taking care of each other’s core interests and major concerns with full understanding and respect.

Looks like LHL has come of age n start polishing china. Trump must have given Sg the chill. But whether China will play along with Sg will play out in the next decade. My guess is xi will b watching every move of Sg trying to get into the good books of the White House. The propaganda of friends to all was a load of crap that LHL now knew China would not tolerate.

Too late. His "get used to America First" advice to Asean leaders at last mth's summit sealed the coffin. Did it came as a surprise to him when Xi, at the Apec forum just 2 days later, lashed out at that same policy he was dutifully promoting?

Wasn't LHL given the snub of a no-invite to that Belt and Road forum? I wouldn't bring that up if I were him.

LKY helped Teng XiaoPing to give up the failing socialist economy to adopt Singapore style capitalism (still keeping its political system)..
LKY convinced Teng to adopt Singapore model.... for fast economic development (after Teng personally witnessed the success of our Jurong Industrial projects, our housing projects and our ways (EDB) of attracting foreign investments... essential to grow our economy.)

LKY showed Teng .... the new path to fast economic development(growth)
Teng was a humble man... a giant of a man...willing to learn from the leader of a tiny nation. ( learning the skill from a good cat)

It is 40 years after Teng's visit....China now recognised LKY's contribution to the success of China.

Even after his death, LKY still has the clout and strong influence on our good relationship with China.

All of LKY’s hard work with China has been washed down the drain by the son. Humliating China infront of the Americans. It is obvious that China now snubs both the PM and Singapore. Holding up the Terexes in Hong Kong and excluding Singapore from the belt and road is the obvious ones to start with. No, I don’t think LHL has come of age. He just do not have the EQ.

China is very much ahead of Singapore. Singapore should refocus to modernize this island. Comparing China & Singapore, Singapore is like old mainland China.

Friendship grows when both sides want to be a mutual friend of each other. The third party is not so important if there is no conflict involved (if nobody created the conflict). If there is conflict, you then judge who is more right and decide which friend you want to choose. Personal Judgment is important, as the final choice will be commented on by others in history later. I think Mr. Lee Kuan Yew as a whole, had already done his part as a great man with foresight.

China wants to control the world and it is starting from the weaker countries, bullying them into submission. Once everyone is on China's side, China will then go for the kill on America. But it will be WW3 before America bows to China. WW3 is inevitable as long as cowardly dictators run the show.

Over the past 50 over years and without any natural resources, S'pore is fortunate to have good leaders from LKY, GCT to LHL to develop, maintain and win so much respect from many other countries by doing what's necessary, logical and right for mankind. Along the way, we learned our lessons and then share our experiences with friendly countries big or small (not just China) hence win more recognition and LKY become iconic for what he had done and respected worldwide. Simply cannot understand all the negativity about our own leaders posted here with some even supporting or "feel good" in trying to stir some un-founded issues against us. Let's give due credit when it's due. This article arose from LHL's reciprocal message to Xinhua News for China's recognition of LKY's sharing of development experiences, not CNA's propaganda. Don't think our leaders had been "arrogant" (as perceived by many comments here) to advise others but merely gave their valid opinions thus able to win more friendship and respect from most right-minded leaders of many other countries.
