Coining the concept of "Social Enterprise Hawker Centre" ----- to help the lower and middle income group (to reduce their cost of living) & (to tackle the tech disruption that has cause many PMETs and workers to lose their jobs - to start their own business and become their own bosses) since Year 2014 (could be earlier).

To be a social entrepreneur, one need to be enterprising and make the business viable - so that those people benefited from the social entrepreneurship can continue to reap the benefit long turn without folding up.
Thus like the social enterprise CEO that run the hawker centre - he need to be experienced in running such food centre so that he will be effective in sourcing for cheap raw food supply, economies of scale in purchasing to get good discount through consolidated purchase, centralised payment counter, centralised dish and utensil cleaning, use green energy etc to save cost - and yet able to delight and attract customers with cheap but quality and tasty food.
Only then social entreprenuership in hawker centre can survive to meet the social objectives of :-
(1) providing jobs for people
(2) provide low cost but relatively good quality food that will attract and retain customers.
(3) operate on a cost recovery model.
Note :- Customers will not come - just because it is low cost food - the food quality must also be relatively good and the ambience of the eating place must also be relatively comfortable.
If not can think of 2 tiers serving - one tier - very good food but slightly pricey food to cross-subsidise.
2nd tier - relative quality but low cost food. In this case the ambience of the eatery also not too bad.

This is an entrepreneurship run with social objectives in mind :-
(1) Provide employment - and provide salary for those who need a job.
(2) Provide affordable low cost food for customer.
(3) Adopt cost-recovery model (where revenue is able to cover cost - fixed overhead cost + variable cost (including worker salary and CEO salary)) - without operating at a loss nor make a profit.
The "boss" who run this social hawker centre - are not driven by profit and are not answerable to shareholders to provide dividend and capital growth - thus to achieve "not-for-profit" is attainable - as this "boss" effectively is also compensated by a salary scheme - not by bonus if gain more profit.
This CEO is driven by a noble cause with the holistic mission of :- (1) providing jobs (2) providing affordable low cost food - to low income people, retiree, unemployed, students or those who want to save more for retirement.
This social mission - is not run by the State - which is known as "State Enterprise" - but by private sectors - who are philanthropist in mind and who want to contribute in charity.
This is a socialist system in a capitalist system - middle path of socialism and capitalism ----- for very basic essential necessities ----- FOOD for survival - so that no one will go hungry.
I thought this is a very good cause.

But don't get me wrong - i am not proposing this model for every sector of the Economy - only for very basic essential services - like FOOD - for lower income group or for those want lower cost food.
Other aspects of Economy will still need to run with Market Economy principles - as we need growth to ensure entrepreneurship, motivation for prosperity and Economic Growth.

No growth - no money - to build road, build bridges, build house, improve our living standard, buy this, buy that, subsidies this, subsidies that........, get top talents to fuel our Economy.....

Good to finally see the fruition of this initiative.
It will benefit the people at large grappling with cost-of-living.
