That drew a response from fellow panellist, International Monetary Fund’s managing director Christine Lagarde, who said: “From my experience of dealing with international players, we will always need Singaporeans.”
“I’m not here to sing the praise of Singapore but if you need educated, smart, inventive people prepared to innovate and to take risks, use Singaporeans,” she added. This drew applause from the crowd and Mr Tharman quipped: “Well, we listen to others.”

Singapore have always been brought up and praise by the top notch Global Governance and Business people.

Unfortunately, local Singaporean frequent critics of our Government - fail to recognise this and often blow hot and cold and chipping away the very foundation that make Singapore recognised by the World as respected Global player.

Singapore success don't come easy ---- don't destroy it by our own foolishness.

Evernal Sue - Ms Lagarde is an IMF chief - who deals mainly with Government officials, Finance Chief, to less extent Banker Chief, Business Chief.

You think the IMF chief will more likely to interact and work with Singaporeans man-in-the-street or Singapore Government officials?

In case you don't know, if any Countries borrow funds from IMF, IMF will have to work directly with the Government officials --- and will have conditions set in to monitor the monetary policies and fiscal policies of the borrowing Countries.

Do you think the IMF chief work with Government officials or man-in-the-street --- to levy praise for Singaporeans or the Singapore Government officials?

Singapore need to "continue to add to the world" - because :-
(1) Singapore is dependant on the World market - as our business market.
(2) Singapore Global trade is 3 times the size of our GDP.
(3) Many Singaporeans jobs are dependant on huge foreign investors and MNCs to invest in Singapore.
(4) Singapore Government has signed and in the process of signing many multilateral and bilateral FTAs across the Globe - such as CPTPP, RCEP, CSFTA, EU-Sing FTA, USA-Sing FTA, Aust-Sing FTA, Russia Bloc-Sing FTA, S Korea-Sing FTA, ASEAN Economic Community, Japan-Sing FTA, I
ndia-Sing FTA, Africa-Sing FTA etc etc etc
(5) Singapore Sovereign Funds and Singapore businesses have invested heavily across the Globe.

- thus Singapore must continue to add to the World - when we can - because we are so integrated with the Economic, Political and Social well beings of the Globe.

It is myopic for some Singaporeans to say - we should "only care about our personal survivor" and not to continue to engage the World ---- because the World is our rice bowl --- not our small Economy where our rice bowl is really small.

Luckily Singapore has wise and talented Government and civil service - who can see all these and engage the World constructively since Independence - that have driven Singapore phenomenal Economic Growth.

If we do not have good, wise and visionary Government - Singapore is nothing but just a small kampong village by now.
