This is a good and encouraging sign --- that income indeed is improving across the board for Singaporeans as well as PRs (who have helped to make meaningful contribution to Singapore Economy).
Except for those retrenched but looking for jobs - more help is needed to help them look for jobs - and e2i, NTUC, WSG need to work harder to help.
Of course those looking for jobs should stay positive, be more patient, be preservance, work closely with e2i, NTUC or WSG (have faith in them - as they will try their best to help).
The labour market should be good for Singaporeans and the PRs.
According to statistics (Singaporeans 3.47 million, PRs 520,000) :-
2,301,000 Singaporeans in employment
(1) 62% of people earn $4,000 and above (include CPF or other incomes) - 1,426,620 Singaporeans.
(2) 38% earn less than $4,000 including people who are retirees (include CPF or other incomes)
(17.9% are working - earning less than $4,000 - 874,380 Singaporeans
20.1% are retiree or not working ---- 1,169,000 (include retirees, housewives, students etc).
Of the 17.9% who earn less than $4,000 :-
(1) 1.9% earn less than $1,000
(2) 5.4% earn between $1,000 to $1,999
(3) 5.1% earn between $2,000 to $2,999
(4) 5.5% earn between $3,000 to $3,999

Wage Credit Scheme, which co-funds wage increases for lower-income Singaporeans will obviously increase the median salary . Once that is removed we could expect a big drop .
When there is such thing as wage credit it simply mean employer do not want to pay more to hire Singapore citizens .

Ist graph show between 2008 to 2018 median is almost 100% increase cool.
The report focus alot on older work force help bring this year median pay rise.
But if the low income salary worker particularly the citizen in real life is $4,400 then the title of "1st World Country" all can proudly shout out.
Too bad we r very far from it.

用李 like you foreigner, but tell people you're roman sporean. Your PM will be angry, unfaithful pet from sewage wasted!

Hammer Chan You have been using this term "roman Singaporean" - what do you mean by "roman Singaporean"?

Can we see the breakdown between Native Singaporeans, Naturalised Singaporean and PRs (Soon to be Singaporeans)? These statistics are skewed towards the last 2 resident types as the very reason they are here is for employment, and we're not talking about low pay Work Permit positions.

Not sure how accurate the statistics are. If it comes from the government, we need to be discerning. After all, they have a policy of "ownself check ownself".
Just ask yourself: How many of your S'porean relatives and friends earn around S$4,400 or more?

If these are taken from income tax statistics.. who will want to declare more?

Paladin - remember the blind men and the elephant story - the blind man who touched the elephant leg think an elephant is like a tree, the one who touched the ear think it a flappy wing animal, etc. In the same sense, you cannot just go to one group of salaried citizens and conclude that the salary for most Singaporean cannot be $4,400. What if you go a family who has many diploma or degree graduates and their averge salary is above $6,000. Can you then conclude that $6,000 is the average!!

What type of Singaporean are you? Born or Naturalized?
Aren't naturalized Singaporean true blue Singaporean?
Do take note that the median is inclusive of employer contributions to the CPF.

Breeke Lo - I'm 57 this year, born here in KK in Singapore. Both my parents came from China during their teens to find a better life and yes, to work here in search of a better life. Am I a true blue Singaporean? And if not, how many generations must I have before you would consider them "true blue Singaporean". My point, Breeke, we are all citizens be it that we may have gotten our citizenship 50 years ago, 10 years ago or even just yesterday.

Upon i told them they say .. as 62 to 64 age ! isnot easy to fine any management job due to many of them love and like to employee thsoe less than 60 years age.. sad to see that happen if so those who 60+++ they not able to fine job. they should not need to voting too.

If the news is reported by Bloomberg or CNN I think
I will accept it.
But this is what MOM claimed and reported by CNA
I am sorry I can only believe 40%.
MOM , a PAP Dept and CNA also A PAP advertising
agency surely paint a very nice picture.
Tell us how many % are drawing 4k a mth.
MOM always reported our unemployment as 2-3%
Do you believe that?
I will accept it.

Has anybody correlated the growth of the median with the rise of public services cost and cost of living? Is it "on par", or is the growth lacking? I feel like that would be a more important statistic to analyze.
Nantha Tan
Is it? How come everyone around me are telling me that it is quiet this year?

Breeke Lo Er... No leh. All locals. But I've don't think that matters for my industry.

Breeke Lo Government co-funds 20% of the wage increases given to Singaporean employees earning a gross monthly wage of $4,000 and below. The previous median was S$4,056 so there many number are just below S$4,000 say increase those numbers and the new median will be much higher.
