Scientists projected that if Global Warming cause 3 degree Celsius higher in Earth temperatures - hundred over cities will go under water - as ice melt and sea level rises.

Cities like Shanghai, Hongkong, Osaka, US 14 cities, many South East Asia Countries (including Singapore) --- will go under water.

Netherland is the Country in the World that have successfully build a myriad of system that keep its Country out of water --- as 1/3 of Netherland is below sea level.

It is thus highly urgent for Singapore environmental engineer to learn from the Dutch on :-
(1) how to prevent Singapore from going under sea level
(2) how to reclaim land - without using sands - but through "dam the sea"

---- where the Dutch has many years of proven technique.

Of course not to mention the Dutch has many technologies on "vertical farming" that help to grow food crops in confined spaces ---- where Singapore can also learn alot from the Dutch.

So for those in this forum --- anyhow shooting our President Halimah and the Dutch ---- you may not know that the President and the Dutch ---- are trying to save Singapore, Singaporeans and Singapore residents --- from drowning --- years down the road --- as to build these myriads of dyking system takes years of planning and alot of money to build.

Count Singapore very lucky ---- as Singapore is small --- and will be less expensive to build such dyking system to prevent flooding.

Bigger Countries ---- will almost be impossible to defend against flooding ---- as it will be extremely costly to build the anti-flooding system.

等海水淹过来了 ---- 才呼天抢地 --- 就太迟了。

That is why ---- extremely angry with Trump - for instead of cooperating in the Global effort like Paris Climate Agreement - to protect Humanity from the harm cause by Global Warming --- Trump pull out from the Agreement and undertake many measures to harm the Earth Climate even more.

That is why Hurricanes and forest fire --- are punishing Trump led US under the Universal Law of Karma --- for "endangering Humanity in the Globe".

In case ignorant Singaporeans didn't know --- that we could be drown --- if not for the foresight of the Singapore Government :-

(1) In 2011, the minimum land reclamation level in Singapore was raised from 3m to 4m above the mean sea level.

And last year, Singapore raised the coastal Nicoll Drive in Changi by up to 0.8m.

(2) As sea levels rise, Singapore prepares to stem the tide
Seawalls and rock slopes already protect over 70 per cent of Singapore's coastline. But experts suggest more ways to face the impact of climate change.

If not Singapore Government foresight to protect Singapore, Singaporeans and Singapore residents from drowning --- 大家淹死了都不知道为什么。

Don't believe - go anyhow vote lor - one day crisis come --- only can cry father cry mother
呼天抢地 lor.

Ricky Lim alot of people only know how to shoot and complain, without knowing the whole background and issue Singapore facing. That's the frustration. Gap very big but really empty vessel and knowing nuts.

Lau Lan Chu - The only way is to present the facts, sound reasoning and strong arguments when some people miscommunicate, mis-shoot, or anyhow shoot.

This is the purpose of social media psychological defense --- correcting the public misperception or deliberate miscomm - that can cause harm or cause problem to Singapore and Singaporeans as a whole.

The mainstream media such as Straits Times, CNA etc --- have already present the right facts --- but it depends on how some people interpret - based on their perception, judgement and their experiences --- sometimes lead to distortion of facts.

W
hen there are distortion of facts or their opinions --- lead to harmful effects to Singapore or Singaporeans or Singapore residents ---- then those with knowledge or proper understandings of the issues should voice out --- and correct the misperception.

This particular issue ---- is in fact life and death to Singapore and Singapore residents --- which fortunately, Singapore Government has the foresight to plan and build the coastal defense around Singapore for many years --- to protect Singapore from drowning or go under "the sea water" ---- and yet some people still take the Government effort for granted and worst "bad mouth" the Government -- who are trying very hard to keep everyone safe.

President Halimah talk nonsence.

The top in innovation in the world is the USA... Holland is way down...in technological innovation...in economic innovation.

The USA has Silicon valley, China has Shengzhen and Singapore has A* star...
Holland has nothing.

It is unbecoming for our President to carry water for Holland. Holland is NOT better than us ... in innovation nor in economic success.

Check out the Global Innovation Index. Netherlands nr. 2. Singapore nr. 5. Both countries can learn from each other. It’s not about who’s better.

My apology for not understanding how the Global Innovation Index works. I fully agree with this statement "It’s not about who’s better".

Years ago (when I made my first disaster trip to Holland first time on the rail in Europe that almost landed myself in Germany until the ticket inspector came on board) on the request of my Global Sales/Engineering Director to show our Holland operations how to convert our materials down to....when the top guy of our Holland operations insisted that if his guy cannot do it, he did not think a Singaporean could and I did a little more than what he thought people from our small country are inferior.

Somehow ...such index is propaganda tools used by the West.

The USA has Google, Facebook, Apple..Amazon....what has Holland achieved in terms of innovation ?

Holland is no better than even China...who has Alibaba, Taobao, Huawei, Tmall, whatsApp., cashless pay (wallet)..and sharing of cars, bikes and delivery services.
Holland has NONE of such innovative technological achievements.

In self driving cars, robots and AI ...both the USA and China are neck and neck in the race. Where is Holland ?

It is laughable...Holland is ranked no 2 in the world...in a bogus index for technological innovation.

What can Singapore learn from Holland...the dike...using a finger to plug a hole in the dike...to stop the flooding ? Ha ha ha

Ernesto Braam. I do think Sg can learn a lot from the Netherlands in the area self sufficiency. Perhaps someone should shaft a shoe in that internet troll's mouth.

Stop wasting time traveling, our education system teach children to be parrots listening and repeating what was taught. Everything is controlled, media, free speech and expression so how can people be innovative when mentally they are already handicapped.

“When children come back home, don’t ask them whether they’ve finished their homework … ask them what questions did they ask their teachers,” she said. It sounds very simple, but it’s not so simple. It’s about encouraging the children to think. Have you thought of any issues? Have you asked your teachers about those issues? And then you multiply that throughout society.”

These are typical motherhood statements meaning who doesn't know a mother is a female. Singaporeans are among the most highly educated population in the world. We are highly inquisitive and ask many questions. But our system does not allow us to ask different questions and answers from what the teachers wanted to hear. When Singaporeans ask questions on the issues we are facing, they simply deflect, deny or simply keep quiet about them. When the deep seated cultural issues are not addressed in an open manner, our education system would continue to produce "Yes men" who just follow the master without thinking critically whether they were right or wrong. Over the years, they have lost the conviction of serving the people and addressing their concerns where a country practises two systems... say and preach one thing and do another and still insist they were right... already lost hope!

Singapore can learn from the Dutch spirit of Election. And not change Indian to Malay.
