Autonomous taxis may soon be coming to Singapore

If driverless cab happen, there is no incentive to own a car.
But being a disruptive technology, many taxi drivers jobs will be gone.
The challenge is how to find alternative jobs for the taxi drivers.
ricky l1 minute ago
Also a big source of revenue for the Government will be gone ---- eg. COE, road tax etc.
ricky l2 seconds ago
To compensate for the loss in Government revenue from COE, road tax, alternative tax revenues will need to be explore.
ricky l2 seconds ago
Oh wait a second, this driverless taxi will have to pay COE and road tax.
But then the cab fare need to be affordable.
But the only catch is, how to find alternative jobs for cab drivers.
ricky l2 seconds ago
All cab drivers are Singaporeans that need to earn a living.
This will be a headache and need to put on a "thinking cap" ---- until a solution is found for cab drivers.
ricky l2 seconds ago
There are about 24,000 taxis - driven by about 92,000 cab drivers.
Wonder what will be the alternate path for 92,000 cab drivers?
ricky l12 seconds ago
May have to think along the line :-
"Autonomous system for individual enterprise - under a large co-operative or large enterprise" :-
(1) e.g. individual food stall - under a cooperative or large enterprise "Food Fare".
(2) now the cab drivers - under a cooperative or a taxi enterprise will be gone if come driverless cab ----- then have to think along similar line to put the 92,000 cab drivers into another alternative path and keep them employed ----- what will be the alternatives?

The scary part about autonomous, robotic that displace jobs ---- will come to a point whereby - many will be drive out of jobs.
No jobs means no income ---- wonder where got enough people hire a driverless cab - when people have no jobs, no income to pay for a driverless cab?
ricky l2 seconds ago
Actually the World has come to a crossroad ---- if full robotic and autonomous system replace most of the humans ---- and most humans go out of jobs ---- where will there be enough consumers with income and money to pay for the goods and services?
Thus the companies that produce robotics --- will go bankrupt ---- as there are no consumers with income to consume the goods and services.
A vicious cycle ----- unless the World come out with a solution ---- that can keep displaced humans in a job with a respectable income ---- to keep the Economy going, to keep people with jobs and income, to keep social order and to ensure humans can live in dignity on Earth.
Otherwise, even the corporate that produce robots ---- will also go bankrupt - because no consumers with money to buy the goods and services.

How to keep and generate the same revenue of COE, road tax etc?
Eg. service providers must bid for a licence to operate the driverless cab. (like telecom companies bidding for 3G, 4G licenses) to operate the driverless cab.
Eg. 3 service providers licence will be given out of 10 bidders.
Then when buy a driverless cab - will subject to COE bidding every month. Eg. 100 COE is issued, the 3 service providers must bid at a minimum price of say $50,000 of COE to operate 1 driverless cab.
Road tax will still be levy for each driverless cab.
By doing so, Government revenue will be maintained - without the need to look for alternative revenue sources eg. increase higher GST, or increase corporate tax or increase income tax or increase property tax.
Vehicles should come from vehicle tax.

Do not be fooled. Automatic cars cannot be driven in a normal speed of 80km/hr reliable. It could go 30km/hr safely perhaps. This is because of conditions on our roads, like obstacles, other road users etc. They are assuming our roads to be congested, so that they can use a car that moves 30km/hr. If sensors spoil or soiled with mud, you'll have to pray hard nothing happens.

The 92,000 cab drivers can come under a cooperative or big enterprise to offer personalised services such as deliver goods and services for business, to deliver document to stamp and chop, to offer personalised limousine services, to carry baggages for airport passengers, to offer social services like offering transport to sick, handicapped, elderly, school children, etc.
All this driverless cab cannot offer as personalised human services, personal handling and personal care are required.
Ok, i think the job for 92,000 cab drivers are still safe - but need re-calibration, re-structuring and re-training to provide the above services.

This show that nothing is at the dead end. Mission impossible - is always possible.
天无绝人之路。
走出去,就有路。
This is LKY spirit.

This autonomous driverless cab - is known as the "IOT" (Internet of Things).
It adopt massive usage of sensors, computer systems, satellites, network, telecom backbones, telecom systems (to take calls), business data analytics, command and control system, cyber-security etc. - to run the operation.
This somehow gel with the concept of ERP2.

I wonder whats going to happen when someone crash into this vehicle. You can make the vehicle so safe that it wont knock onto someone or other cars, but you cannot prevent others from crashing into your vehicle. When there is no driver. Meaning they can just run away? What about the passenger in the autonomous car? What about motorcycles weaving in and out of your lane? what about people who don't give way to your vehicle when u need to turn?
