(1) The US research institute the Jamestown Foundation - allegation that China has been using and exploiting our business association and clans to exert influence on Singapore Government, to promote the Chinese identity of Singapore and to advance the interest of China ----- is too far-fetched.

(2) Singapore business association and clans are setup by the various Chinese dialect groups since independence - and not currently as a result of influence by China.

(3) Singaporean Chinese like the Singaporean Indians and Malays - have ancestral roots with where they come from - and naturally will establish associations and clans to forge ties - as we have relatives in the respective place where we come from.

(4) Thus the US research institute allegation of China influence operations in Singapore with Singaporean Chinese is flaw and unsubstantiated ---- and unnecessarily stoke uneasiness between Singapore Chinese and other Singaporean races.

(1) Singaporeans have deep business ties with China - and naturally, we have extensive links with China.

(2) Just to name a few, Singapore jointly participate in building Suzhou industrial park, Tianjin, Nanjing, Chongjing CCI, and now Yangtze Delta region, Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen, BRI Silk route etc ---- and we are working with China and Asia Pacific to conclude the RCEP mega-trade deal led by China.

(3) Trump on the other hand is isolating US from the World market ---- and to name one, Trump break off from the CPTPP trade deals in which US and Singapore are members of.

(4) So how do US expect Singapore to have close ties with US business - if Trump is bent on breaking business ties with the World?

Masa Soh Mengming in Greater China, there is a distinction between "China" the country and "Chinese" the cullture. That would be 中国 vs 中华. The non-Chinese often find it strange why China Airlines is from Taiwan, without realising it is 中华航空. Chinese, as a nation, is not even neccesarily refering to the same entity, since it could be the PRC or the ROC.

However, the PRC wants the concept of Chinese nationality and Chinese culture to be one and the same. It may sound "normal" and acceptable to ethnic overseas Chinese since it is our race, but how would you consider it acceptable if Israel asserts that Jews all around the world are Israeli? Or India expects Singaporean and Malaysian Indians to fight for their causes and thinks it necceary to come meddle in our local Indian affairs, be it the disagrements over live music during Thaipusam, or those concerning the Batu Caves in Malaysia?

Kok Chee Seong I see no reason to fight them. I think the question we should be asking is why do you want to fight them?

Teo Huai Wei Edmund Where is the evidence? Point to a policy instead of spouting unfounded fabrications.

You have wasted two paragraphs talking nothing about a specific policy that shows the China wishes to intervene on behalf of all ethnic Chinese and thinks that ethnic Chinese should be treated as Chinese nationals.

Is there any specific policy that goes against what Zhou Enlai agreed on at the Bandung Conference?

Call that Taiwanker Hsiao Lang be more specific on what propaganda the Communists are using to influence me?

I look at China and see how much more effective it is in eradicating poverty and at sanitation compared to India.

I look at China and noticed that unlike the US, it does not wage wars around the world. It last fought a war 40 long years ago, more longer than the US, Russia, UK, France and certainly India.

Facts and achievements make me sympathetic to China. It is as simple as that. What I see is a smear attempt by using propaganda disguised as news. Many who criticise China usually get their facts wrong like some Indians who think we are suffering from an inferiority complex for pointing out the obvious when it comes to China.

Jamestown Foundation.... you should spent more of the funds to write about how your own President is racially splitting up the US soil, chanting people of other races to "go back" to where they belong. Stop stirring up another Arab Sping aka Singapore style using tone that you do not even understand how our system operate. The fact that many S'poreans know how racist Americans could be, yet we simply get on with our life and deter from commenting on yours. Our govt should look into this issue and may consider suing the foundation for trying to defame us as a nation.

Sound like Russell Hsiao is hinting that Taiwan set up the Terrex scam trying to sow discord between China and Singapore? Tell me that my statement makes no sense? Maybe?

" to impose a Chinese identity on Singapore". The use of this phrase exposed the ignorance of Jamestown Foundation of the historical and family ties between citizens of China and Singapore. Jamestown also using that bond to sort of play up fears that Singapore may because of all these bonds and relationship become subservient to China. That play is very underhanded and somehow reminds me of the treachery of the whites to the American Indians who showed kindness as well as the role of Jamestown in American slave trade and the massacre of America Indians. Perhaps Jamestown should focus on issues nearer to them and look at how to make amends
