Once China's BRI is operational using the ECRL from Port Klang to Kuantan port, the prospect of Tuas mega port may not look bright. Besides the Maritime Industry is always flooded with foreign skill workers, thus leaving no benefit for Singaporeans. If government does not address tge mismatch of skill churned out by Singapore education, there is no hope for Singaporean graduates and only benefit working tourist and fts.

Unless Singapore panders to China, with China great might, they will ensure Singapore go down. We are considered as a threat to China when the Americans are protecting our water. A prosperous Singapore does not reward China, so we are considered a bane hindering their control of Asia.
Other Asian countries need the Chinese money hence they are considered no threat at all to them.
Hence Poi Pat, I fully agree with you that Tuas mega port prospect looks bleak.

John Low -
(1) Singapore navies protect our own Territiorial Water - US navies don't protect our Territorial Water.
Hence your comments are factually wrong.

(2) Providing rite of passage and allow US littoral ships to berth at our port is not getting US navies to protect our Territorial Water.

(3) China commercial liners have leased 3 mega berth at our Tuas Megaports - and China commercial liners are similarly granted rite of passage and port berth.

(4) So get your facts right first before your put out any alarming false statements.

(1) Singapore navies don't only perform joint navies exercise with US, Singapore also invited China navies to participate in joint navies exercies.

(2) The last joint navies exercise is the ADMM+ - where China, US, Russia, S Korea, ASEAN etc also take part - where Singapore IFC (Information Fusion Centre) - is the Central Command and Control Centre to co-ordinate the large mutli-national navies exercise.

(3) China 海豚 naval helicopter - also practise landing on our RSN stealth frigate.

(4) Singapore Armies will be staging a larger military exercises with China Armies (at the invitation of China PLA).

(5) Singapore Airforce also have large air exercises with USAF.

(6) Get your facts right first - and stop playing the conspiracy theory that play Singapore against China and US.

(7) A few major China commercial shippers have confirmed their shipping operations with Singapore ports and future Tuas MegaPorts.

(1) With Singapore completing the tie up of China Chongqing land and sea connectivity - Singapore has also secure joint projects with China Delta region (Shanghai Ports) and Greater Bay Area (Guangdong Ports and HongKong Ports).

(2) Singapore is helping China to implement BRI - where Singapore is the China largest partner that have helped many foreign investors to jump on board, largest financial partners to fund the BRI, innovators, legal assistance to the BRI.

60 per cent of Asean projects are already financed mainly by Singapore-based banks, and the Republic has a deep ecosystem of logistics, project development and service firms.

(3) So does your comments stand up to scrutiny?

"the port in Malacca does not provide container handling services, so it is unlikely to displace Singapore"

This is small issue which Makaysia can do wonder with China expertise, just look at Sri Lanka port is a good example. Don't be too complacent and think highly of strategic location.

Solutions:- Broad Concepts and Approaches
(1) Build core and multiple layers of concentric rings of Economic ties, deals and Agreements --- layer by layer (starting from our core, the nearest neighbors and ripple all the way out) ---- in Multi-lateral Trade Deals and Agreements. Eg. ASEAN regional integration, RCEP, BRI, CPTPP etc.(铁桶阵)。

(2) Maintain and enhanve all our current bilateral FTAs - with all the Countries to build "spoke and hub" to our "Core and Concentric Rings of Economic trade deals" --- we will have a very big "hub or core". Eg. Sing-US FTA, Sing-China FTA, Sing-India FTA, Sing-Japan FTA, Sing-Australia FTA, Sing-S Korea FTA, Sing-EU FTA, Sing-New Zealand FTA, Sing-Russia and Central Asia FTA, Sing-Africa FTA etc.

(3) Maintain and enhance current Regional and Global Supply chain and build new Regional and Global Supply Chain - with all like minded stakeholders.
We can potentially build 5 resilience Regional and Global Supply Chains - to ensure resiliency namely :-
(i) ASEAN Centrality - regional supply chain
(ii) RCEP Asia Pacific - regional supply chain
(iii) CPTPP - Global (skeleton) supply chain - that can beef up with more members - currently linking Asia, N America and S America - champion by Japan.
(iv) BRI silk routes (land and sea) - new Global Supply Chain (champion by China) - where Singapore also play a very active role
(v) The current clobbled Global Supply Chain - that trade with US.

(4) Make our workforce useful and tune in to all the various stakeholders - and make our business, workers useful and can tap opportunities that come out from the adversity.

Solutions to Problem 1-
This is called :- 第一招。万法归心。
All route back to the Heart with this principle :-
"Friends with All.
Adversaries with None.
Build mutual benefits with Win-Win Outcomes."

"朋友满天下。
敌人无一个。
以互惠互利共识建立双赢结果。“

Solution - 3 steps process
(1) Plug nodes into critical market and ports - through joint projects, investments, joint ventures, industrial park, joint R&D etc. Eg. Chongqing CCI, Greater Bay Area in Guangdong and HK ports, Shanghai ports in Yangtze Delta, Vietnam ports, ASEAN ports, Indonesia ports, Australia ports, New Zealand ports, India ports etc ---- will be critical for us to link all them up by "smart precise investment and joint projects".

(2) Build virtual connectivity via Digitial Economy, market access, friendship, business contact, trade deals and agreements, trade, business, travel etc. ASEAN centrality, RCEP, CPTPP, BRI, Singapore FTA with India, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore FTA with China, Singapore FTA with Russia etc.

(3) Build up critical cores of port facilities, warehousing, logistic chain, transport connectivity, port-of-call, bunker facilities, all-in-one services, MRO etc - and link up with Step 1 and Step 2. ---- as well as with our FTA with EU, US, Africa, India, Russia, Africa etc ---- that will ensure they will ply into Singapore ports.

Solutions to Problem 2-
This is called :-
第二招 - 色是空,空是色。
- build physical nodes, and achieve integration with virtual connectivity and integration,
- through virtual connectivity - build physical maritime routes and physical connectivity back to Singapore ports.
