The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Tuesday (Jul 23) that it is considering bringing forward the end-2020 deadline for all motorised personal mobility devices (PMDs) to meet fire safety standards.
In the email, the spokesperson said LTA strongly encouraged PMD owners to switch out early "for their own safety as well as those around them".

(1) With ePMD causing many fires at home and now taking away lives ---- wonder should it be the right time for LTA to issue an order for owners of all ePMD that does not meet the fire safety certification to turn in their ePMD for disposal.

(2) Owners should not be charging their ePMD without fire safety certification at home.

(3) Or should a programme or scheme - for retailer to exchange a non-certified ePMD for a fire safety certified ePMD with say a 20% discount?

---- a foot for thought ..... as lives and home safety is more important than owning a ePMD not fire safety certified that will burn home and kill lives.....

Bro as long as your PMD on par with UL2272 should be fine.

From safety perspective, it is right stringent control must implemented asap. Just a few cheapkate PMD and hey care riders overcharged their PMD, many innocent households will be affected.

You must look at the bigger picture, you r responsible and good PMD rider, but maybe your neighbour beside may not be. There you am living with a safety and time bomb if your neighbour PMD not UL2272 boleh.

U can see the reason regulation must be hasten.

Good work! It is a no-brainer for PMD owners to continue using non-UL2272-certified devices and put their properties and life at risk, including that of their neighbours. It is a penny wise pound foolish decision to continue using such devices.

they should investigate where the victims get the modified or upgrade the battery from. they need to find the root of the problems not jump to conclusion. forensic evidence will determin the principle battery or third party that cause it.

The law has been low overdue and I don't understand why is there a need to wait till end 2020. It should take immediate effect! We should all know that PMD is not a necessity. It is a bi-product of lazy people.

Not Overdue , But Lack Of Competency In Risk Managements Or Money Minded.
Loss Tax Revenues If The Old Stocks Not Sold.
Make More Monies When They Have To Repurchase The Safety Approved Ones.
Hmmmmm......
Good For Tax Revenues

Those who don’t use the approved and certified safe PMDs are actually risking their own life as well as their families and others like their neighbours.
The worst can happen whilst riding it too.
What Happens if it explode in a Shopping Mall where there are many people??

If not sure of specifications and certifications for our environment , dont approved for use. New products implementation is attractive to our society and image. It can be hazardous and cause serious damages.

LTA should have thought through the implications before allowing PMDs everywhere without even a benchmark. Now they are backpaddling and making up regulations as issues crop up.

Make it compulsory for PMD owners to have Fire Insurance that provides at least $500k in 3rd party claims.
