YES. Let the "war" begin. The world vs USA. Show Trump not to mess with countries that dare retaliate and bring far more damage to USA.

For consumer elsewhere in other countries. If you don't agree with Trump and seen him as bullies, you can play your part by not purchasing any more USA products, extending any service provided by US companies.

US trade have been losing since bush administration . All these alliance (EU, Mexico etc), rivals (china etc) keep taking advantage of US. THEY THEMSELVES ARE protectionists at the start. Let have a all out trade war. No one may win in the end, all people will get hurt. But I support trade war, this will make the global trade much fairer.

May god stand with the US, BRING JUSTICE to the world

The whole World is trying to build a "trade firewall" around Trump-led US.

Eventually, US may find itself increasingly isolated from the Global trade - once the dust of the trade war settled down.

"The productivity gain in 2017 is terrific and we must ride on the momentum to press on with our productivity efforts. ... Successful industry transformation will create better quality jobs, raise skills, pay better, sustainable wages as well as grow the economic pie,' Dr Yap said.

(1) Industry Transformation Map (ITM)
- Idea is posted in 2012 to tackle disruptive tech and is adopted by the Government feature in Budget 2016.
- Now this idea is used in 23 industries where 15 industries led by one Minister-of-State have undergone transformation and has start to reap positive outcome - as a good number of companies have start to reap growth and profit through the newly transformed business.

Subject: REACH RWEB Submission: Govt agenices working with industries to devise prodictivity figures

To elaborate further :-
(1) Ministry of Comm and iDA – should work with IT industries, foreign IT MNCs, local IT vendors etc to devise objective, tangible KPI productive figures in each technology areas and skillsets vis-à-vis global competition and regional competition – so that IT business and IT workers can target to meet the KPI productivity figures – and peg wage growth in % term and/or absolute term to the productivity figures and business profitability. Communicate this to the IT industries, business, IT workers, Union and schools. Make sure we are competitive with our global competitors and regional competitors.
(2) SLA should do the same with construction sector.
(3) Ministry of Finanace and MAS should work with the banking and financial sector. etc

That is, the concept above is how to transform Singapore Economy in 2016 - sector-by-sector (conceptualising the KPI for each sector) ---- and using targeted approach to transform each sector, each industry one by one.

Only then productivity in each sector, in each industry can be successfully transformed - supported by empirical, scientific measures.

Good that after 4 years --- the idea is taken up.

Singapore is the 3rd highest per capita GDP in the World.
Why are you comparing Singapore to a state?

In case you don't know Singapore per capita GDP is higher than many developed Countries like US, EU, China, Japan, S Korea, Taiwan, ASEAN etc.

And Singapore rank very high as the least corrupt Country in the World.

Not trying to howlian here --- but Singapore bashing has go on for too long - and need to be retaliated to put things in proper perspective.

There is no such thing as a free lunch in this world of politics. As in the previous article which discussed this earlier, Singapore is expected to return the favour. ie no penalty for cancelling the HSR project.

Ricky Lim ·

Expenses have been spend on the project - and this are taxpayers money that need to be recovered.

Zero expenses recoverable are not possible.

HSR is the Malaysia project and initiated by Malaysia, now is terminated by Malaysia.
Thus the amount of compensation for monies spend - should be an issue of discussion.

At the same time, a "pre-advance" US team was in Singapore to meet North Koreans.
In Singapore, a team of US officials, with a fleet of idling vehicles on standby, was at a hotel on the resort island of Sentosa but declined to comment.

Some news say Shangri-La is a possible site.
Strangely US team for advance recce is spotted on Sentosa.

Hm Hm ..... look like Shangri-La, Sentosa are possible sites ...... so the sites for the Summit are still not decided.

Actually if the Summit is held in Sentosa - then it will be easy to protect and secure.
Also it will not choke up the city traffic.

Sentosa also have very posh convention centre, hotel and nice sea view.
Also think that Sentosa has helipad for landing.

Only need to secure the Sentosa gateway (1 main road).
Can also be surrounded by warships for quick exit.
Or can be helipad to Changi Airport.

When Trump Air Force 1 and Kim Airplane land in Changi Airport - 3 possible path to reach Sentosa :-
(1) Limousine land route - via east cost to nicholl highway to Keppel to Sentosa.
(2) Warship to Sentosa
(3) Heliborne from Changi Airport to Sentosa.

There's media speculation that North Korea would prefer the secluded island resort of Sentosa, located about 20 minutes from the city center, because of security reasons.

New tripartite workgroup to study concerns of older workers
Read more at https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/new-older-workers-tripartite-workgroup-mom-10284234

 (Updated: )

Ricky Lim ·
“Should we continue to assume that most people do not work beyond age 64? In fact, brother Chee Meng asked a good question recently. Why should there be an expiry age for people’s desire or willingness to work?” Mrs Teo said at the seminar. “If so many countries will have older populations, how can we turn this into a competitive edge for our economy and society?”
The setting up of a committee to better support older workers was first mooted by Mr Ng during his first speech in Parliament as deputy secretary-general of NTUC in response to the President’s Address. He also proposed expanding the Inclusive Growth Programme (IGP) by the National Trades Union Congress to extend more help to low-wage workers.
---
Yes many people want to work beyond 64 years old - as they want to stay alert, stay healthy and want to be still active working earning money.

But the problem is, many companies will start to target 50 years old, 60 years old - to be retrenched - in favor of younger workers or FTs.

So this workgroup come in handy - on how to tackle older workers who are healthy, alerts - and still want to work.
