  • There are collateral damages to US companies as well from Trump's trade move.
  • (1) Qualcomm supplied more than half of chipset sold to ZTE.
  • (2) Microsoft Corp provide software
  • (3) Intel Corp provide some components
  • (4) Acacia Communications Inc provide optical networking equipment
  • (5) Lumentum Holdings Inc
  • (6) Finisar Corp
  • (7) Oclaro Inc All these
  • US companies are badly hit by Trump trade move.
  • Qualcomm is the worst hit - and likely to retrench American workers.

    • If China learn from this trade war - and determine and successful to make its own chips or succeeded in buying other semicon chips from some other sources ---- Trump trade war will cause US business to lose US$11billion from this saga ---- and China customers will never come back.

Huawei has already succeeded in making all its semicon chips.
Huawei is also the most advanced in 5G chips - that surpass the US Qualcomm 5G chips.

So Trump may make a very serious strategic trade move --- that may cause substantial damages to US tech industries as well as hurting its business and jobs.

Should American voters starting to celebrate Trump's blunders in the trade war?

UPDATE 2-Qualcomm begins layoffs as part of cost cuts
      18 Apr 2018
April 18- Qualcomm Inc has begun cutting jobs as part of its promise to investors to cut annual costs by $1 billion, the chipmaker said on Wednesday. Bloomberg, which first reported the layoffs, said the size of the job cuts is large enough that Qualcomm will have to file a WARN notice, or Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, with the state of California.

I think Chinese should take advantage of this trade war to improve themselves. The USA wants China to be weak and submissive, but this is the moment for China to start diversifying its supply chains or developing its own. Is there a need to source vital components from the US, where they may have design flaws and backdoor exploits built into the hardware? It is time for China to make all its own components. It's internal market, as well as its supply of trained and talented engineers, is sufficient to push forward this change!

Finally the U.S. has dunked the head of one of China's established corporate into the trough. But will ZTE die a slow or quick death ?

Good, we have been taken advantage of for far too long. We helped by not imposing tariffs on goods from so many third world countries and kill its own industries. This cannot be going on forever. China is considered a developed country and should act like one on fair trade. Anyone want to trade with the US now has to be both way. You scratch my back and I will scratch yours.
