China is the 2nd largest Economy in the World and Japan is the 3rd largest Economy in the World.
If both China and Japan can reconcile the differences without letting the differences drift while working on the common interest eg. N Korea denuke and most important on trade, business development and investment --- then Asia Pacific Economy can grow and can become more vibrant.
Most important things is, both China and Japan should provide more impetus to get the RCEP sign to boost economic cooperation and trade in the whole Asia Pacific.
This will help to cushion, mitigate and reduce the impact cause by protectionism trigger by Trump - where both China and Japan will be greatly impacted if the World does not cooperate closely.

Latest news that both China and Japan concur that trade war will harm Global Economy - and will cooperate economically to mitigate the effect of protectionism (both did not mention Trump --- but evidently are joining hands to tackle Trump's trade war).
Both say differences will take a back seat - while emphasizing Economic cooperation.
This spell good for the World - when these 2 Economic Asian Giants cooperate, trade, business and investment can flourish --- and will be good for the whole of Asia Pacific.

If both also work closely with India --- Asia Pacific Economy will surely flourish and move on good ground --- whereas Trump's trade war can take a back seat.
Notably, if both China, Japan can get India to move expeditiously on RCEP -- that result in closing and signing the RCEP --- than all in Asia Pacific will rejoice and all will benefit economically (Trump and his supporters can start beating their chest for losing TPP and RCEP are none of their business).

And the next milestone --- will be trying to work for RCEP-EU ---- to make Asia Pacific and EU to come onboard - to form the largest trade bloc in the World !

The latest news 5 pm 16 Apr 2018 say that Japan will support China's One Belt One Road initiatives and its construction firms have already taking on projects with China.

The World led by Asia Pacific with all these positive economic cooperation - will cause Economic Balloon to expand outwards, grow bigger and benefit everyone in Asia Pacific.
