Wonder if international civil aviation mandate data to be passed every 5 minutes to track airplane location, why not also transmit voice recording back - via the same transmission medium such as via satellite or ground station - to be centrally stored - so that playback is possible.
Voice traffic is very small - about 64 bytes - should not have clogged the bandwidth.
In this way, it is possible to monitor flight-in-distress and know the root cause of crash - and make aviation investigation, failure much easier to prevent future accidents.
