Public sentencing of protesting workers backfires in China

Authorities in southwestern China had apparently thought their Cultural Revolution-style public sentencing of workers who took to the streets to demand back wages would stand as a warning to others amid a slowing economy and rising worker unrest

(1) When companies don't pay workers - companies are wrong - and there must be a labour law to protect the workers to ensure that the workers are compensated for work render.

(2) Workers protesting unruly causing unrest is wrong. But there must be law and authorities to administer justice - so that workers right are protected. In this way, there will be no unrest by the workers.

(3) Authorities must protect both the interest of business and the interest of workers. Creating jobs for their people - is the duty of the Authorities.

And the best mechanism to ensure this is that - Authorities are endowed by the people so that Authorities will work for the interest of the people. The best mechanism is that the Authorities are elected by the people to represent their interest.

By doing so, there will be less likely to have civil unrest.

Economic growth and job security are the foundation to keep people happy and less likely to cause trouble - whether in a Society of democracy or communism.

But during bad times of Economic slowdown, an elected Authorities will less likely to cause the people to resort to unrest to ensure their voices are heard.
