Spread of MERS in Saudi Arabia accelerates with 17 new cases
The intuition
prediction of more and more serious infection from Mers has indeed materialise.
Most important, there is a need to identify where did the Mers come from – camels or bats or from whom, at which location ?
Only with the right information, can effective quarantined and eradication of the viruses at the source take place.
(For example, the China H7N9 virus will not spread as far and wide and as resilience even though it is more contagious then Mers – because :-
(1) the source of the virus can be identified quickly – eg. Chicken farm or chicken market – where the whole farm and market can be quarantined and action taken to eradicate the virus. Now not even sure Mers come from camels, or bats or from which animals?
(2) There is no congregation by people all over the World into the place where the source of virus are propagating – and then these people fly back with everybody else – and start spreading all over the place
(3) No vaccine or cure is available now.
Thus unless the source of Mers infection are identified and the mode of transmission are identified – Mers remain the more dangerous virus.
And worst, Haj is coming again and pilgrims from all over the World will congregate again.
