As immigrants come from the various Countries of Origin - eg. China, India, Eurasia, ASEAN etc - once they turn citizens in Singapore - we are all Singaporeans - with Singaporean's identity though with the respective Heritage roots.

Once Singaporeans. we are self-ruled --- but still maintain an implicit ties with the Countries of Origin.

But at all time, Singaporeans must 1st and foremost, put Singapore Sovereignty, National Interests, National Identity and National Survival - as our 1st and most important priority
- because Singapore is the place where we live, we stay, we work, we rest, we play and we bring up our descendants.

And the well-beings of Singapore - will directly impact our well-being and our descendant's well beings.

The various Heritage roots by maintaining implicit ties with their Countries of Origin - can help to promote business link, people-to-people link etc - and facilitate mutual benefits and win-win outcome for Singapore and the respective Countries of Origin.

Such heritage roots and implicit links - will help to promote peace and prosperity with Singapore and the various Countries of Origin - as we have more in-depth understanding of each cultural roots.

This message need to be reinforced every year - as new immigrants are converted to become Singaporeans - to make up for the shortfall in child birth.

It is thus important to preserve every single aspect of our Heritage Roots that define Singapore.

For eg. the Oxley House need to be preserve - as it defines the development and existence of modern Singapore - the birthplace of Governance that build modern Singapore.

Oxley House is the Nexus ---- that unite all cultural ties of immigrants in Singapore together - and build the current modern Singapore.

As per quoted: Singaporean Chinese identity unique but will keep on evolving (obviously changing), to Singaporean Chinese-"FT-Mixed" due to cross-marriage and converts (to cover up for their mistakes for importing too many of such from "many countries" AND now trying to give to those borned before 1949 but converted to SG before 1996 some post-PG perks) ....... and for whatever reasons also failed to mention Tangxi village (just vagely covered as Canton, even refused to acknowledge as GuangZhou) ........ that was where his great-great came from. LOL

"The new arrivals will enrich our cultural heritage with their different life experiences and perspectives" - with 5000 years of (phleghm spitting) culture and (loud talking) heritage / habits. LOL

The local Peranakans already surrendered to the fate of being called OCBC - Orang Cinas Bukan Cinas. LOL

Guess not.

Paladin Nicholas Lawrence Alright. Some Chinese locals like me have a good impression of China. We defend China. Then some Indians upon reading this tell us to balik Cina!

When we criticise India, the same people take offence on behalf of India! Double standards much?

Chinese identity? Some say Peranakan isn't Chinese but an entirely different race. LOL

Just stupid. It is clear that he is suggesting that our Chinese culture has nothing to do with China!

Just like how some Peranakans think they are not Chinese!

Are we not proud of our own Singaporean Chinese identity that we hope it "evolves" into something else? Evolution can go both ways, beneficial or harmful.

That may be so, but if people suggest that Chinese culture here has nothing to do with China, well tell that to my born in China grandmother!

Why is he playing the racial card? In Singapore, we celebrate our festive holiday together regardless of what holiday is it. LHL and his gang is the one the bring in people from India, China, philipines etc and create all the tension. What is he talking about Chinese identity? In the original Singapore that I know of, there is no Chinese identity, everyone of use are Singaporean. Now, we are divided into different class.

“Chinese” 华族 is collect name describing 华夏 descendant, basically mean the people originated from China. This include races like Northern Han Chinese people, Japanese, Koreans and many others. Also southern Han Chinese people share more genetic similarities with Vietnamese.
So strictly speaking say "Chinese" is a race is not accurate.

Han chinese is han chinese in itself. Vietnamese similarity to chinese is due to mixed blood given its history and close proximity with China & SEA nations.

A few Chinese Singaporeans have lost their Chinese identity when they choose to marry people of other races. They do it in the name of 'love' and non-racial discrimination but in so doing they have in fact diluted the Chinese culture within their own families and the Chinese community as a whole. Love is very fragile but cultural identity must remain intact if it is to make people 'beautiful' and proud.

You are not and cannot par with chinese neither par with the west and will always be judged beneath them in languages and even in competence. An inferiority cultural
complex, and complexities, which you have to be constantly defended and this passed on to every generation.
Such a breed has nothing to give of themselves on a personal level except... What does the law, in spirit, says? (most vocal on this subject)
You end up being a repressed society and how can anyone relate to that?
But you are made rich(an obsession with the covetous), or rich enough to have need of nothing and so death is a lonely experience.

With respect, do not share his historical account of the Chinese from early Singapore time. Too simplistic and not entirely true in several parts. Present day influx of Chinese, from China, has not created integration with our Chinese whom we are familiar with....and definitely not with other races.

People develop according to their evironment. Every provinces in China have their specific heritage and practises not one is the same, even between villages there are some unique differences. So what if there are some difference here, important point is essentially its the same. Please don’t try to carve out something just bcos of poilitical need.

Those Chinese in Sgp who have fond memories of China are already on the way to the heavens, leaving their descendants behind. The Singaporean culture that many of their descendents experienced are mostly a mix of western and eastern cultural practices. It is not easy for outsiders to understand our Singaporean culture, some of which is the love of many kind of food. One of the catayst for the development of Singaporean culture is the introduction of the English language into the mainstream eastern communities which open up a new and free world; the West, like the Western food in Sgp hawker culture.

Is this message even necessary? I am Chinese growing up in the early sixties and I learn our history conscientiously! Seems to me it is simply stating the obvious. In his CNY message, the PM should focus on other more important bread and butter issues e.g. the ever-rising costs of living.
