The 2 mega casinos also destroyed individual, family and society. Singapore should stand firm in preventing gambling except that Singapore allows them to operate here.

Everyone is against gambling.

Even if we put a ban to gambling, Singaporeans will still crawl to Genting or go to cruise to gamble there --- and there will be a big outflow of Singaporean money.

By attracting Genting to come to Singapore - at least the money is kept within Singapore - we can gather tax and can still help this hardcore gamblers to kick their habit.

Social safeguards are put in place to discourage Singaporeans from gambling and their family members can ban them from gambling in Singapore.

Betting taxes comprising betting duty, casino tax and private lotteries duty amounted to S$2.7 billion.

All along singaporeans have gambling and cigarette problem. But cannibis is a whole other problem that hasn't really been picked up by Singaporeans. I don't think casinos are a big problem for Singaporeans. Singaporepools is the main cause for gambling addictions.

So what's stopping people from going to Thailand to seek cannibis for medicinal purposes? In fact, many Singaporeans are already going to Thailand for other prescription drugs.

Paul Tan - PAP won by 69% votes even after casinos were allowed.
It has created thousands of jobs plus tourist attraction as the casinos also has other attraction like RWS, MICE, etc.

As I reiterate, everyone is against gambling, prostitution, smoking etc and other vices.

But, a straight ban is not the solution.

At that time, we are facing economic slowdown, tourism drop and job growth slows.

The casinos decision touted as a "mega project" attracted a whopping $5 - $6 billion of investment and created thousands of jobs to Singapore - and it is one of the factor that help to boost the Economy and arrested the lethargic Economy.

Many industries benefitted from the 2 casinos:-
(1) Construction
(2) Designer
(3) Telecom companies
(4) IT companies
(5) food and beverages
(6) retail shopping
(7) MICE - meeting, incentive, convention, exhibition
(8) Tourism - Universal Studio, other tourist attraction
etc.

If we are foolhardy about ban on casinos & other betting sources - we will have lose :-
(1) The initial capital investment of $5 - 6 billion
(2) Annual betting taxes - $2.7 billion annually
(3) Yet we are losing about similar amount or more to Singaporeans gambling overseas.

Then our Government will have less Government revenue :-
(1) less money to help this hardcore gambling addicts,
(2) less money to spend on social welfare such as healthcare, military defence, education etc.
(3) will need to collect more taxes from Singaporeans eg, higher GST, personal income tax, corporate tax etc.

--- and yet not solving the problem of gambling among Singaporeans.
